Psalms 79

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 [Psalm Of Asaph] God, the pagans have invaded your heritage, they have defiled your holy temple,they have laid Jerusalem in ruins,	1 Psalmus. Asaph. Deus, venerunt gentes in hereditatem tuam, polluerunt templum sanctum tuum, posuerunt Ierusalem in ruinas.
2 they have left the corpses of your servants as food for the birds of the air, the bodies of your faithful forthe wild beasts.	2 Dederunt morticina servorum tuorum escas volatilibus caeli, carnes sanctorum tuorum bestiis terrae.
3 Around Jerusalem they have shed blood like water, leaving no one to bury them.	3 Effuderunt sanguinem eorum tamquam aquam in circuitu Ierusalem, et non erat qui sepeliret.
4 We are the scorn of our neighbours, the butt and laughing-stock of those around us.	4 Facti sumus opprobrium vicinis nostris, subsannatio et illusio his, qui in circuitu nostro sunt.
5 How long will you be angry, Yahweh? For ever? Is your jealousy to go on smouldering like a fire?	5 Usquequo, Domine? Irasceris in finem? Accendetur velut ignis zelus tuus?
6 Pour out your anger on the nations who do not acknowledge you, and on the kingdoms that do not callon your name;	6 Effunde iram tuam in gentes, quae te non noverunt, et in regna, quae nomen tuum non invocaverunt,
7 for they have devoured Jacob and devastated his home.	7 quia comederunt Iacob et sedem eius desolaverunt.
8 Do not count against us the guilt of former generations, in your tenderness come quickly to meet us,for we are utterly weakened;	8 Ne memineris iniquitatum patrum nostrorum, cito anticipent nos misericordiae tuae, quia pauperes facti sumus nimis.
9 help us, God our Saviour, for the glory of your name; Yahweh, wipe away our sins, rescue us for thesake of your name.	9 Adiuva nos, Deus salutaris nostri, propter gloriam nominis tui et libera nos; et propitius esto peccatis nostris propter nomen tuum.
10 Why should the nations ask, 'Where is their God?' Let us see the nations suffer vengeance forshedding your servants' blood.	10 Quare dicent in gentibus: “ Ubi est Deus eorum? ”. Innotescat in nationibus coram oculis nostris ultio sanguinis servorum tuorum, qui effusus est.
11 May the groans of the captive reach you, by your great strength save those who are condemned todeath!	11 Introeat in conspectu tuo gemitus compeditorum; secundum magnitudinem brachii tui superstites relinque filios mortis.
12 Repay our neighbours sevenfold for the insults they have level ed at you, Lord.	12 Et redde vicinis nostris septuplum in sinu eorum, improperium ipsorum, quod exprobraverunt tibi, Domine.
13 And we, your people, the flock that you pasture, will thank you for ever, wil recite your praises fromage to age.	13 Nos autem, populus tuus et oves pascuae tuae, confitebimur tibi in saeculum; in generationem et generationem annuntiabimus laudem tuam.
