[For the choirmaster Psalm Of David] Blessed is anyone who cares for the poor and the weak; in timeof trouble Yahweh rescues him. | 1 Unto the end. The understanding of the sons of Korah. |
Yahweh protects him, gives him life and happiness on earth. Do not abandon him to his enemies'pleasure! | 2 As the deer longs for fountains of water, so my soul longs for you, O God. |
Yahweh sustains him on his bed of sickness; you transform altogether the bed where he lies sick. | 3 My soul has thirsted for the strong living God. When will I draw close and appear before the face of God? |
For my part I said, 'Yahweh, take pity on me! Cure me for I have sinned against you.' | 4 My tears have been my bread, day and night. Meanwhile, it is said to me daily: “Where is your God?” |
My enemies speak to me only of disaster, 'When wil he die and his name disappear?' | 5 These things I have remembered; and my soul within me, I have poured out. For I will cross into the place of the wonderful tabernacle, all the way to the house of God, with a voice of exultation and confession, the sound of feasting. |
When people come to see me their talk is hol ow, when they get out they spread the news with spite intheir hearts. | 6 Why are you sad, my soul? And why do you disquiet me? Hope in God, for I will still confess to him: the salvation of my countenance, |
Al who hate me whisper together about me and reckon I deserve the misery I suffer. | 7 and my God. My soul has been troubled within myself. Because of this, I will remember you from the land of the Jordan and from Hermon, from the little mountain. |
'A fatal sickness has a grip on him; now that he is down, he will never get up again.' | 8 Abyss calls upon abyss, with the voice of your floodgate. All your heights and your waves have passed over me. |
Even my trusted friend on whom I relied, who shared my table, takes advantage of me. | 9 In the daylight, the Lord has ordered his mercy; and in the night, a canticle to him. With me is a prayer to the God of my life. |
But you, Yahweh, take pity on me! Put me on my feet and I wil give them their due. | 10 I will say to God, “You are my supporter. Why have you forgotten me? And why do I walk in mourning, while my adversary afflicts me?” |
This wil convince me that you delight in me, if my enemy no longer exults over me. | 11 While my bones are being broken, my enemies, who trouble me, have reproached me. Meanwhile, they say to me every single day, “Where is your God?” |
Then you wil keep me unscathed, and set me in your presence for ever. | 12 My soul, why are you saddened? And why do you disquiet me? Hope in God, for I will still confess to him: the salvation of my countenance and my God. |
Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from eternity to eternity. Amen, Amen. |
