Job 12

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Matos Soares
1 Job spoke next. He said:	1 Mas Job, respondendo, disse:
2 Doubtless, you are the voice of the people, and when you die, wisdom wil die with you!	2 Em verdade, só vós sois homens (sábios), e convosco morrerá a sabedoria!
3 But I have a brain, as well as you, I am in no way inferior to you, and who, in any case, does not know al that?	3 Eu também tenho entendimento como vós, e não vos sou inferior; pois quem ignora isso que vós sabeis?
4 Anyone becomes a laughing-stock to his friends if he cries to God and expects an answer. Peoplelaugh at anyone who has integrity and is upright.	4 Sou objecto de riso dos meus amigos, eu que invocava Deus e a quem Deus respondia; objecto de riso o justo, o inocente!...
5 'Add insult to injury,' think the prosperous, 'strike the fel ow now that he is staggering!'	5 Desprezo ao desgraçado! Assim pensa o que é ditoso. Desprezo aquele cujos pés vacilam.
6 And yet the tents of brigands are left in peace: those who provoke God dwel secure and so doesanyone who makes a god of his fist!	6 As casas dos ladrões estão na abundância, seguros estão os que atrevidamente provocam a Deus e que não têm outro deus senão o seu braço.
7 You have only to ask the cattle, for them to instruct you, and the birds of the sky, for them to informyou.	7 Pergunta, porém, aos animais, e eles te ensinarão, às aves do céu, e elas te indicarão.
8 The creeping things of earth wil give you lessons, and the fish of the sea provide you an explanation:	8 Fala com a terra, e ela te responderá, e os peixes do mar te instruirão.
9 there is not one such creature but wil know that the hand of God has arranged things like this!	9 Quem ignora que a mão de Deus fez todas as coisas,
10 In his hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of every human being!	10 que ele tem na sua mão a alma de todo o vivente, e o sopro da vida de toda a carne humana.
11 Can the ear not distinguish the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food fromanother?	11 Porventura o ouvido não distingue as palavras, como o paladar distingue o sabor dos alimentos ?
12 Wisdom is found in the old, and discretion comes with great age.	12 A sabedoria acha-se nos velhos, e a prudência na vida dilatada.
13 But in him there is wisdom, and power too, and good counsel no less than discretion.	13 A sabedoria e a fortaleza estão em Deus; ele possui o conselho e a inteligência.
14 What he destroys, no one can rebuild; whom he imprisons, no one can release.	14 Se ele destruir, ninguém há que edifique, se aprisionar um homem, ninguém há que o solte.
15 Is there a drought? He has withheld the waters. Do they play havoc on earth? He has let them loose.	15 Se retiver as águas, tudo secará, e, se as soltar, submergirão a terra.
16 In him is strength, in him resourcefulness, beguiler and beguiled alike are his.	16 Nele residem a fortaleza e a sabedoria; ele conhece o enganador e o que é enganado.
17 He robs a country's counsel ors of their wits, turns judges into fools.	17 Ele conduz os conselheiros a um fim insensato, e conduz os juízes à estupidez.
18 He undoes the belts of kings and knots a rope round their waists.	18 Ele desata o cinturão dos reis, e cinge os seus rins com uma corda.
19 He makes priests walk barefoot, and overthrows the powers that are established.	19 Deixa ir os sacerdotes sem glória, e abate os poderosos.
20 He strikes the most assured of speakers dumb and robs old people of their discretion.	20 Troca as palavras dos homens mais hábeis, e tira o conselho aos velhos.
21 He pours contempt on the nobly born, and unbuckles the belt of the strong.	21 Faz cair o desprezo sobre os príncipes, e afrouxa a cintura dos fortes.
22 He unveils the depths of darkness, brings shadow dark as death to the light.	22 Tira das trevas as coisas mais ocultas, e traz à luz a (própria) sombra da morte.
23 He builds nations up, then ruins them, he makes peoples expand, then suppresses them.	23 Multiplica as nações e as destrói, e, depois de destruídas, as restitui ao seu primeiro estado.
24 He strips a country's leaders of their judgement, and leaves them to wander in a trackless waste,	24 Ele muda o coração dos príncipes do povo da terra, transvia-os em desertos sem caminhos;
25 to grope about in unlit darkness, lurching to and fro as though drunk.	25 Job faz uma longa enumeração dos males que, por permissão de Deus, sobrevêm a toda a classe de pessoas e de povos, para mostrar não tanto o seu poder como a independência em que está a sua ação dos méritos dessas pessoas e povos.
	26 andam às apalpadelas nas trevas, longe da luz; fá-los andar errantes como ébrios.
