1 Job spoke next. He said:	1 E GIOBBE rispose, e disse:
2 Doubtless, you are the voice of the people, and when you die, wisdom wil die with you!	2 Sì, veramente voi siete tutt’un popolo, E la sapienza morrà con voi.
3 But I have a brain, as well as you, I am in no way inferior to you, and who, in any case, does not know al that?	3 Anch’io ho senno come voi; Io non sono da men di voi; Ed appo cui non sono cotali cose?
4 Anyone becomes a laughing-stock to his friends if he cries to God and expects an answer. Peoplelaugh at anyone who has integrity and is upright.	4 Io son quell’uomo ch’è schernito dal suo amico; Ma un tale invoca Iddio, ed egli gli risponderà; L’uomo giusto ed intiero è schernito.
5 'Add insult to injury,' think the prosperous, 'strike the fel ow now that he is staggering!'	5 Colui che sta per isdrucciolare col piè, E, per estimazione di chi è felice, un tizzone sprezzato
6 And yet the tents of brigands are left in peace: those who provoke God dwel secure and so doesanyone who makes a god of his fist!	6 I tabernacoli de’ ladroni prosperano, E v’è ogni sicurtà per quelli che dispettano Iddio, Nelle cui mani egli fa cadere ciò che desiderano.
7 You have only to ask the cattle, for them to instruct you, and the birds of the sky, for them to informyou.	7 E in vero, domandane pur le bestie, ed esse tu l’insegneranno; E gli uccelli del cielo, ed essi te lo dichiareranno;
8 The creeping things of earth wil give you lessons, and the fish of the sea provide you an explanation:	8 Ovvero, ragionane con la terra, ed essa te l’insegnerà; I pesci del mare eziandio te lo racconteranno.
9 there is not one such creature but wil know that the hand of God has arranged things like this!	9 Fra tutte queste creature, Quale è quella che non sappia che la mano del Signore fa questo?
10 In his hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of every human being!	10 Nella cui mano è l’anima d’ogni uomo vivente, E lo spirito d’ogni carne umana.
11 Can the ear not distinguish the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food fromanother?	11 L’orecchio non prova egli le parole, Come il palato assapora le vivande?
12 Wisdom is found in the old, and discretion comes with great age.	12 Ne’ vecchi è la sapienza, E nella grande età è la prudenza.
13 But in him there is wisdom, and power too, and good counsel no less than discretion.	13 Appo lui è la sapienza e la forza; A lui appartiene il consiglio e l’intelligenza.
14 What he destroys, no one can rebuild; whom he imprisons, no one can release.	14 Ecco, se egli ruina, la cosa non può esser riedificata; Se serra alcuno, non gli può essere aperto.
15 Is there a drought? He has withheld the waters. Do they play havoc on earth? He has let them loose.	15 Ecco, se egli rattiene le acque, elle si seccano; E se le lascia scorrere, rivoltano la terra sottosopra.
16 In him is strength, in him resourcefulness, beguiler and beguiled alike are his.	16 Appo lui è forza e ragione; A lui appartiene chi erra, e chi fa errare.
17 He robs a country's counsel ors of their wits, turns judges into fools.	17 Egli ne mena i consiglieri spogliati, E fa impazzare i giudici.
18 He undoes the belts of kings and knots a rope round their waists.	18 Egli scioglie il legame dei re, E stringe la cinghia sopra i lor propri lombi.
19 He makes priests walk barefoot, and overthrows the powers that are established.	19 Egli ne mena i rettori spogliati, E sovverte i possenti.
20 He strikes the most assured of speakers dumb and robs old people of their discretion.	20 Egli toglie la favella agli eloquenti, E leva il senno a’ vecchi.
21 He pours contempt on the nobly born, and unbuckles the belt of the strong.	21 Egli spande lo sprezzo sopra i nobili, E rallenta la cintura de’ possenti.
22 He unveils the depths of darkness, brings shadow dark as death to the light.	22 Egli rivela le cose profonde, traendole fuor delle tenebre; E mette fuori alla luce l’ombra della morte.
23 He builds nations up, then ruins them, he makes peoples expand, then suppresses them.	23 Egli accresce le nazioni, ed altesì le distrugge; Egli sparge le genti, ed altresì le riduce insieme.
24 He strips a country's leaders of their judgement, and leaves them to wander in a trackless waste,	24 Egli toglie il senno a’ capi de’ popoli della terra, E li fa andar vagando per luoghi deserti, ove non ha via alcuna.
25 to grope about in unlit darkness, lurching to and fro as though drunk.	25 Vanno a tentone per le tenebre, senza luce alcuna: Ed egli li fa andare errando come un uomo ebbro
