Job 12

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Job spoke next. He said:	1 Job respondió, diciendo:
2 Doubtless, you are the voice of the people, and when you die, wisdom wil die with you!	2 ¡Realmente, ustedes son la voz del pueblo y junto con ustedes morirá la sabiduría!
3 But I have a brain, as well as you, I am in no way inferior to you, and who, in any case, does not know al that?	3 Pero yo también, como ustedes, soy capaz de entender, no estoy en nada por debajo de ustedes; ¿o acaso hay alguien que ignore estas cosas?
4 Anyone becomes a laughing-stock to his friends if he cries to God and expects an answer. Peoplelaugh at anyone who has integrity and is upright.	4 El que invoca a Dios para que él le responda, ha llegado a ser la irrisión de sus amigos: ¡el justo, el perfecto, es un motivo de irrisión!
5 'Add insult to injury,' think the prosperous, 'strike the fel ow now that he is staggering!'	5 «¡A la desgracia, el desprecio –así opina la gente feliz– un golpe más para el que se tambalea!».
6 And yet the tents of brigands are left in peace: those who provoke God dwel secure and so doesanyone who makes a god of his fist!	6 Las carpas de los salteadores están en paz; hay seguridad para los que provocan a Dios, para el que tiene a Dios en un puño.
7 You have only to ask the cattle, for them to instruct you, and the birds of the sky, for them to informyou.	7 Pero interroga a las bestias, y te instruirán, a los pájaros del cielo, y te informarán,
8 The creeping things of earth wil give you lessons, and the fish of the sea provide you an explanation:	8 a los reptiles de la tierra, y te enseñarán.
9 there is not one such creature but wil know that the hand of God has arranged things like this!	9 ¿Quién no sabe, entre todos ellos, que todo esto lo hizo la mano del Señor?
10 In his hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of every human being!	10 El tiene en su mano la vida de todo viviente y el espíritu de todo ser humano.
11 Can the ear not distinguish the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food fromanother?	11 ¿Acaso el oído no discierne las palabras como el paladar gusta los alimentos?
12 Wisdom is found in the old, and discretion comes with great age.	12 En los cabellos blancos está la sabiduría y en la edad avanzada, la inteligencia.
13 But in him there is wisdom, and power too, and good counsel no less than discretion.	13 Pero con Dios están la sabiduría y el poder, a él pertenecen el consejo y la inteligencia.
14 What he destroys, no one can rebuild; whom he imprisons, no one can release.	14 Si él destruye, nadie reconstruye; si aprisiona, nadie puede abrir.
15 Is there a drought? He has withheld the waters. Do they play havoc on earth? He has let them loose.	15 Si él retiene las aguas, hay sequía; si las suelta, inundan la tierra.
16 In him is strength, in him resourcefulness, beguiler and beguiled alike are his.	16 Con él están la fuerza y la prudencia, a él pertenecen el que yerra y el que hace errar.
17 He robs a country's counsel ors of their wits, turns judges into fools.	17 El hace andar descalzos a los consejeros y priva a los jueces de su sano juicio.
18 He undoes the belts of kings and knots a rope round their waists.	18 Desata los cinturones de los reyes y les ata una cuerda a la cintura.
19 He makes priests walk barefoot, and overthrows the powers that are established.	19 Hace andar descalzos a los sacerdotes y derriba a los que están firmemente establecidos.
20 He strikes the most assured of speakers dumb and robs old people of their discretion.	20 Deja sin habla a los más seguros y priva de la razón a los ancianos.
21 He pours contempt on the nobly born, and unbuckles the belt of the strong.	21 Cubre de desprecio a los nobles y afloja el cinturón de los tiranos.
22 He unveils the depths of darkness, brings shadow dark as death to the light.	22 Despoja a las profundidades de sus tinieblas y hace salir la oscuridad a la luz
23 He builds nations up, then ruins them, he makes peoples expand, then suppresses them.	23 Exalta a las naciones y las hace desaparecer, expande a los pueblos y los suprime.
24 He strips a country's leaders of their judgement, and leaves them to wander in a trackless waste,	24 Priva de inteligencia a los jefes de la tierra y los hace vagar por un desierto sin caminos:
25 to grope about in unlit darkness, lurching to and fro as though drunk.	25 así andan a tientas en la oscuridad, sin luz, y se tambalean como ebrios.
