NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Zophar of Naamath spoke next. He said:	1 Prese allora la parola Sofar di Naama, e disse:
2 Is babbling to go without an answer? Is wordiness a proof of uprightness?	2 « Può essere che il parolaio non abbia risposta, e che il linguacciuto abbia ragione?
3 Do you think your talking strikes people dumb, will you jeer with no one to refute you?	3 Tu solo farai tacere gli uomini, e dopo aver scherniti gli altri, da nessuno sarai confutato?
4 These were your words, 'My conduct is pure, in your eyes I am free of blame!'	4 Tu hai detto: La mia parola è pura e sono senza macchia nel tuo cospetto.
5 Wil no one let God speak, open his lips and give you answer,	5 Oh! volesse Dio parlar lui con te, e aprirti le sue labbra,
6 show you the secrets of wisdom which put all cleverness to shame? Then you would realise that Godis cal ing you to account for your sin.	6 per manifestarti i segreti della sapienza, i molteplici aspetti della sua legge! Allora capiresti che esige da te molto meno di quello che non meritino le tue colpe.
7 Can you claim to fathom the depth of God, can you reach the limit of Shaddai?	7 Pretendi forse di investigare le vie di Dio, e di comprendere perfettamente l'Onnipotente?
8 It is higher than the heavens: what can you do? It is deeper than Sheol: what can you know?	8 E' più alto del cielo, e come farai (ad arrivarci)? E' più profondo dell'inferno, e come potrai scrutarlo?
9 It would be longer to measure than the earth and broader than the sea.	9 La sua misura è più lunga della terra, e più larga del mare.
10 If he intervenes to close or convoke the assembly, who is to prevent him?	10 Se mette sossopra tutte le cose, o le confonde insieme, chi potrà dirgli nulla?
11 He knows how deceptive human beings are, and he sees their misdeeds too, and marks them wel .	11 Egli ben conosce la vanità degli uomini ed è possibile che vedendo l'iniquità non se ne curi?
12 Hence empty-headed people would do wel to study sense and people who behave like wild donkeysto let themselves be tamed.	12 L'uomo stolto si leva in superbia, e si crede nato libero come il puledro dell'asino salvatico.
13 Come, reconsider your attitude, stretch out your hands towards him!	13 Ma se tu, che hai indurato il cuore nello stendere le mani verso di lui,
14 If you repudiate the sin which you have doubtless committed and do not al ow wickedness to live onin your tents,	14 toglierai l'iniquità dalla tua mano, e non farai rimaner l'ingiustizia nella tua dimora,
15 you wil be able to raise an unsullied face, unwavering and free from fear,	15 allora potrai alzare la tua faccia senza macchia, sarai incrollabile e senza paura,
16 for you wil forget about your misery, thinking of it only as a flood that passed long ago.	16 dimenticherai la miseria; te ne ricorderai come d'acqua passata.
17 Then begins an existence more radiant than noon, and the very darkness wil be bright as morning.	17 Sul far della sera ti sorgerà una specie di luce meridiana, e quando ti crederai finito, sorgerai come la stella del mattino.
18 Confident because there is hope; after your troubles, you wil sleep secure.	18 Sarai pieno di fiducia per la speranza che ti attende, e anche sotterrato dormirai tranquillo.
19 When you lie down to rest, no one will trouble you, and many wil seek your favour.	19 Riposerai, e non verrà nessuno a spaventarti, e moltissimi supplicheranno la tua faccia.
20 But as for the wicked, their eyes are weary, there is no refuge for them; their only hope is to breathetheir last.	20 Ma gli occhi degli empi verranno meno, non vi sarà scampo per essi, e la loro speranza diverrà l'abominazione della loro anima ».
