Exodus 33

1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Leave, move on from here, you and the people whom you have broughthere from Egypt, to the country that I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants.	1 E il Signore parlò a Mosè e disse: « Va, sali da questo luogo col tuo popolo che hai tratto dalla terra d'Egitto, verso il paese che promisi con giuramento ad Abramo, a Isacco, a Giacobbe, dicendo: Io la darò alla tua posterità.
2 I shal send an angel in front of you and drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, thePerizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.	2 Io poi manderò dinanzi a te un angelo a cacciare il Cananeo, l'Amorreo, l'Eteo, il Ferezeo, l'Eveo, il Gebuseo,
3 Move on towards a country flowing with milk and honey, but I myself shal not be going with you or Imight annihilate you on the way, for you are an obstinate people.'	3 affìnchè tu possa entrare nella terra che stilla latte e miele. Io però non salirò teco, perchè sei un popolo di dura cervice, e ti sterminerei per via ».
4 On hearing these stern words the people went into mourning and no one wore his ornaments.	4 I1 popolo come ebbe sentite queste dure parole, pianse, e nessuno si mise i propri ornamenti.
5 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, "You are an obstinate people. If I were to go withyou even for a moment, I should annihilate you. So now take off your ornaments, and then I shal decide how todeal with you!" '	5 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Di' ai figli d'Israele: Sei un popolo di dura cervice, se io venissi per una sola volta in mezzo a te ti sterminerei. Per ora deponi i tuoi ornamenti, e così vedrò come ti debba trattare ».
6 So, from Mount Horeb onwards, the Israelites stripped themselves of their ornaments.	6 E i figli d'Israele deposero i loro ornamenti dal monte Oreb in poi.
7 Moses used to take the Tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp. He called it theTent of Meeting. Anyone who wanted to consult Yahweh would go out to the Tent of Meeting, outside the camp.	7 E Mosè, preso il Tabernacolo, lo tese in lontananza, fuori degli accampamenti e lo chiamò il Tabernacolo dell'alleanza. Così tutti quelli del popolo che avevan qualche questione, andavano al Tabernacolo dell'alleanza fuori degli accampamenti.
8 Whenever Moses went out to the Tent, the people would al stand up and every man would stand atthe door of his tent and watch Moses until he went into the Tent.	8 E quando Mosè usciva per andare al Tabernacolo, tutto il popolo si alzava, e ciascuno stava fermo sulla porta della sua tenda, seguendo collo sguardo Mosè, finché non fosse entralo nel Tabernacolo.
9 And whenever Moses went into the Tent, the pil ar of cloud would come down and station itself at theentrance to the Tent, while Yahweh spoke with Moses.	9 E appena era entralo nel Tabernacolo dell'alleanza, la colonna di nuvola scendeva e si fermava alla porta, o Dio parlava con Mosè,
10 The people could al see the pil ar of cloud stationed at the entrance to the Tent and the people wouldal stand up and bow low, each at the door of his tent.	10 mentre tutti miravano la colonna di nuvola ferma all'entrata del Tabernacolo. Allora il popolo restava immobile, adorando ciascuno il Signore, prostrato all'ingresso della propria tenda.
11 Yahweh would talk to Moses face to face, as a man talks to his friend, and afterwards he would comeback to the camp, but the young man who was his servant, Joshua son of Nun, never left the inside of the Tent.	11 E il Signore parlava con Mosè faccia a faccia, come l'uomo suol parlare col proprio amico. E quando Mosè tornava agli accampamenti, il suo giovane ministro Giosuè, figlio di Nun, non si moveva dal Tabernacolo.
12 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Look, you say to me, "Make the people move on," but you have not told mewhom you are going to send with me, although you have said, "I know you by name and you enjoy my favour."	12 E Mosè disse al Signore: « Ecco, tu mi comandi di condurre questo popolo, e non mi fai conoscere colui che man derai meco, dopo avermi detto: Ti conosco personalmente, e tu hai trovato grazia davanti a me.
13 If indeed I enjoy your favour, please show me your ways, so that I understand you and continue toenjoy your favour; consider too that this nation is your people.'	13 Se dunque io ho trovato grazia nel tuo cospetto, fammi veder la tua faccia, affinchè io ti conosca e trovi grazia dinanzi agli occhi tuoi: riguarda come tuo popolo questa nazione ».
14 Yahweh then said, 'I myself shall go with you and I shall give you rest.'	14 E il Signore disse: « La mia presenza ti precederà, ed io ti darò riposo ».
15 To which he said, 'If you do not come yourself, do not make us move on from here,	15 E Mosè: « Se tu stesso non vai innanzi, non ci far partire di qui.
16 for how can it be known that I and my people enjoy your favour, if not by your coming with us? By thiswe shal be marked out, I and your people, from al the peoples on the face of the earth.'	16 Da che infatti io e il popolo potremo conoscere di aver trovata grazia nel tuo cospetto, se tu non vieni con noi, affinchè siamo glorificati da tutti i popoli della terra? »
17 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Again I shal do what you have asked, because you enjoy my favourand because I know you by name.'	17 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Farò anche questo che tu chiedi, perchè tu hai trovato grazia davanti a me e ti conosco personalmente ».
18 He then said, 'Please show me your glory.'	18 E Mosè disse: « Fammi veder la tua gloria! »
19 Yahweh said, 'I shal make al my goodness pass before you, and before you I shal pronounce thename Yahweh; and I am gracious to those to whom I am gracious and I take pity on those on whom I take pity.	19 Rispose il Signore: « Io ti mostrerò ogni bene, e pronunzierò dinanzi a te il nome del Signore; e avrò misericordia di chi vorrò, e sarò clemente verso chi mi piace ».
20 But my face', he said, 'you cannot see, for no human being can see me and survive.'	20 E aggiunse: « Non potrai veder la mia faccia, perchè l'uomo non può vedermi e restar vivo ».
21 Then Yahweh said, 'Here is a place near me. You will stand on the rock,	21 E soggiunse: « Ecco un luogo a me vicino: tu sta su quella pietra,
22 and when my glory passes by, I shal put you in a cleft of the rock and shield you with my hand until Ihave gone past.	22 e quando la mia gloria passerà, io ti nasconderò in una fessura della roccia e ti coprirò colla mia destra finché io non sia passato;
23 Then I shal take my hand away and you will see my back; but my face wil not be seen.'	23 poi ritirerò la mano e vedrai il mio tergo; ma la mia faccia non potrai vederla ».
