Exodus 33

1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Leave, move on from here, you and the people whom you have broughthere from Egypt, to the country that I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants.	1 - Il Signore parlò a Mosè, e gli disse: «Parti da questo luogo, tu ed il tuo popolo che conducesti via dall' Egitto; e va' nella terra che promisi con giuramento ad Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe, dicendo loro: - Io la darò alla vostra stirpe.
2 I shal send an angel in front of you and drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, thePerizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.	2 Manderò un angelo a precederti, per cacciare il Cananeo, l'Amorreo, l' Heteo, il Ferezeo, l'Heveo e il Jebuseo,
3 Move on towards a country flowing with milk and honey, but I myself shal not be going with you or Imight annihilate you on the way, for you are an obstinate people.'	3 e farti entrare in una terra ove scorrono il latte ed il miele. - Io però non verrò teco; perché siete un popolo di dura cervice, e dovrei sterminarvi nel viaggio».
4 On hearing these stern words the people went into mourning and no one wore his ornaments.	4 Udendo il popolo questo parlare così severo, pianse; e nessuno si mise indosso i soliti ornamenti.
5 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, "You are an obstinate people. If I were to go withyou even for a moment, I should annihilate you. So now take off your ornaments, and then I shal decide how todeal with you!" '	5 Disse il Signore a Mosè: «Dirai ai figli d'Israele: -Sei un popolo di dura cervice; se una volta mi metto in mezzo a te, ti sterminerò. Ma ora deponi i tuoi ornamenti e così saprò che cosa farti-».
6 So, from Mount Horeb onwards, the Israelites stripped themselves of their ornaments.	6 Deposero dunque i figli d'Israele i loro ornamenti, sino dal monte Horeb.
7 Moses used to take the Tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp. He called it theTent of Meeting. Anyone who wanted to consult Yahweh would go out to the Tent of Meeting, outside the camp.	7 Mosè poi trasportò il tabernacolo, e lo piantò fuori dell'accampamento, distante, e lo chiamò " Il tabernacolo dell'alleanza ". E tutti quelli del popolo che avevano qualche questione, uscivano fuori dal campo, al tabernacolo dell'alleanza.
8 Whenever Moses went out to the Tent, the people would al stand up and every man would stand atthe door of his tent and watch Moses until he went into the Tent.	8 Quando usciva Mosè per recarsi al tabernacolo, tutto il popolo s'alzava; ciascuno si fermava sull'ingresso della sua tenda, e guardava dietro a Mosè sinché questi non entrava nel tabernacolo.
9 And whenever Moses went into the Tent, the pil ar of cloud would come down and station itself at theentrance to the Tent, while Yahweh spoke with Moses.	9 Entrato che egli era nel tabernacolo dell'alleanza, la colonna di nube discendeva, si posava sull'ingresso, e parlava con Mosè,
10 The people could al see the pil ar of cloud stationed at the entrance to the Tent and the people wouldal stand up and bow low, each at the door of his tent.	10 intanto che tutti vedevano la colonna di nube ferma all'entrata del tabernacolo, e adoravano di sull'ingresso delle loro tende.
11 Yahweh would talk to Moses face to face, as a man talks to his friend, and afterwards he would comeback to the camp, but the young man who was his servant, Joshua son of Nun, never left the inside of the Tent.	11 Il Signore poi parlava a Mosè, faccia a faccia, come suole un uomo parlare ad un suo amico. Quando poi questi ritornava all'accampamento, il giovine Giosuè suo ministro, figlio di Nun, non s'allontanava dal tabernacolo.
12 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Look, you say to me, "Make the people move on," but you have not told mewhom you are going to send with me, although you have said, "I know you by name and you enjoy my favour."	12 Disse dunque Mosè al Signore: «Tu mi comandi di condur via questo popolo, e non mi dici chi manderai con me; eppure tu m'hai detto: - Io ti conosco per nome, e tu hai trovato grazia innanzi a me. -
13 If indeed I enjoy your favour, please show me your ways, so that I understand you and continue toenjoy your favour; consider too that this nation is your people.'	13 Se dunque ho trovato grazia al tuo cospetto, mostrami il tuo volto, che io ti conosca, e trovi grazia innanzi a' tuoi occhi. Riguarda questa gente, il popolo tuo».
14 Yahweh then said, 'I myself shall go with you and I shall give you rest.'	14 Il Signore rispose: «Io stesso camminerò innanzi a te, e tu avrai pace».
15 To which he said, 'If you do not come yourself, do not make us move on from here,	15 E Mosè: «Se tu stesso non ci vai avanti non ci cavare da questo luogo;
16 for how can it be known that I and my people enjoy your favour, if not by your coming with us? By thiswe shal be marked out, I and your people, from al the peoples on the face of the earth.'	16 come infatti potremmo conoscere, io e il tuo popolo, di aver ritrovato favore nel tuo cospetto, se tu non camminerai con noi, in modo da esser noi in onore presso tutti i popoli che abitano sulla terra?».
17 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Again I shal do what you have asked, because you enjoy my favourand because I know you by name.'	17 Disse allora a Mosè il Signore: «Farò anche questa cosa che tu mi hai detto, perchè tu hai trovato grazia innanzi a me; e ti conosco per nome».
18 He then said, 'Please show me your glory.'	18 Disse Mosè: «Mostrami la tua gloria».
19 Yahweh said, 'I shal make al my goodness pass before you, and before you I shal pronounce thename Yahweh; and I am gracious to those to whom I am gracious and I take pity on those on whom I take pity.	19 Rispose: «Io ti mostrerò ogni bene e pronunzierò innanzi a te il nome di Signore; avrò misericordia di chi vorrò, e sarò clemente con chi mi piacerà».
20 But my face', he said, 'you cannot see, for no human being can see me and survive.'	20 Poi disse: «Non potrai vedere il mio volto; perché nessun uomo mi vedrà e poi rimarrà vivo».
21 Then Yahweh said, 'Here is a place near me. You will stand on the rock,	21 Ed ancora: «Ecco» disse «v'è un posto qui vicino, e tu starai sopra la roccia;
22 and when my glory passes by, I shal put you in a cleft of the rock and shield you with my hand until Ihave gone past.	22 quando passerà la mia gloria, ti metterò in una spaccatura della roccia, e ti proteggerò con la mia destra sinchè non sarò passato;
23 Then I shal take my hand away and you will see my back; but my face wil not be seen.'	23 poi leverò la mia mano, e tu mi vedrai per di dietro; ma la faccia mia non potrai vederla».
