Exodus 33

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Leave, move on from here, you and the people whom you have broughthere from Egypt, to the country that I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants.	1 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Va', parti di qui, tu e il popolo che hai fatto uscire dalla terra d'Egitto, verso la terra che ho giurato ad Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe dicendo: "La darò al tuo seme.
2 I shal send an angel in front of you and drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, thePerizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.	2 Manderò davanti a te un angelo e caccerò via il Cananeo, l'Amorreo, l'Hittita, il Perizzita, l'Eveo e il Gebuseo".
3 Move on towards a country flowing with milk and honey, but I myself shal not be going with you or Imight annihilate you on the way, for you are an obstinate people.'	3 Va' verso la terra dove scorre latte e miele; non sarò certo io a salire in mezzo a te, perché sei un popolo duro di nuca e non ti finisca lungo il cammino".
4 On hearing these stern words the people went into mourning and no one wore his ornaments.	4 Il popolo udì quella parola cattiva: si rattristarono e nessuno si mise addosso un ornamento.
5 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, "You are an obstinate people. If I were to go withyou even for a moment, I should annihilate you. So now take off your ornaments, and then I shal decide how todeal with you!" '	5 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Di' ai figli d'Israele: "Voi siete un popolo duro di cervice. Se per un solo istante io venissi in mezzo a voi, vi sterminerei. Ora togliti i tuoi ornamenti, poi saprò quello che dovrò farti".
6 So, from Mount Horeb onwards, the Israelites stripped themselves of their ornaments.	6 I figli d'Israele si spogliarono dei loro ornamenti dal monte Oreb.
7 Moses used to take the Tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp. He called it theTent of Meeting. Anyone who wanted to consult Yahweh would go out to the Tent of Meeting, outside the camp.	7 Mosè ad ogni tappa prendeva la tenda e la piantava fuori dell'accampamento, lontano dall'accampamento, e l'aveva chiamata tenda del convegno. Chiunque ricercava il Signore usciva verso la tenda del convegno, che era fuori dell'accampamento.
8 Whenever Moses went out to the Tent, the people would al stand up and every man would stand atthe door of his tent and watch Moses until he went into the Tent.	8 Quando Mosè usciva verso la tenda, tutto il popolo si alzava e ognuno stava all'entrata della propria tenda e seguiva Mosè con lo sguardo finché entrava nella tenda.
9 And whenever Moses went into the Tent, the pil ar of cloud would come down and station itself at theentrance to the Tent, while Yahweh spoke with Moses.	9 Quando Mosè entrava nella tenda, la colonna di nube scendeva e stava all'ingresso della tenda; ed Egli parlava a Mosè.
10 The people could al see the pil ar of cloud stationed at the entrance to the Tent and the people wouldal stand up and bow low, each at the door of his tent.	10 Tutto il popolo vedeva la colonna di nube che stava all'entrata della tenda: tutto il popolo si alzava e ognuno si prostrava all'ingresso della propria tenda.
11 Yahweh would talk to Moses face to face, as a man talks to his friend, and afterwards he would comeback to the camp, but the young man who was his servant, Joshua son of Nun, never left the inside of the Tent.	11 Il Signore parlava con Mosè faccia a faccia, come un uomo parla con il suo vicino: poi tornava all'accampamento. Il suo servo Giosuè, giovane figlio di Nun, non si allontanava dall'interno della tenda.
12 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Look, you say to me, "Make the people move on," but you have not told mewhom you are going to send with me, although you have said, "I know you by name and you enjoy my favour."	12 Mosè disse al Signore: "Vedi, tu mi dici: "Fa' salire questo popolo", ma non mi fai sapere chi manderai con me. Ma tu mi hai detto: "Ti conosco per nome e hai anche trovato grazia ai miei occhi".
13 If indeed I enjoy your favour, please show me your ways, so that I understand you and continue toenjoy your favour; consider too that this nation is your people.'	13 Allora, se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, fammi conoscere la tua via, così che io ti conosca e trovi grazia ai tuoi occhi. Vedi: questa nazione è tuo popolo".
14 Yahweh then said, 'I myself shall go with you and I shall give you rest.'	14 Rispose: "Il mio volto camminerà con voi e ti farò riposare".
15 To which he said, 'If you do not come yourself, do not make us move on from here,	15 Gli disse: "Se non è il tuo volto a camminare con noi, non farci salire di qui.
16 for how can it be known that I and my people enjoy your favour, if not by your coming with us? By thiswe shal be marked out, I and your people, from al the peoples on the face of the earth.'	16 In che cosa si saprebbe qui che ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, io e il tuo popolo? Non è forse perché tu camminerai con noi e ci distingueremo, io e il tuo popolo, da tutti i popoli che sono sulla faccia della terra?".
17 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Again I shal do what you have asked, because you enjoy my favourand because I know you by name.'	17 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Anche questa cosa che mi hai detto farò, perché hai trovato grazia ai miei occhi e ti conosco per nome".
18 He then said, 'Please show me your glory.'	18 Gli disse: "Fammi dunque vedere la tua gloria".
19 Yahweh said, 'I shal make al my goodness pass before you, and before you I shal pronounce thename Yahweh; and I am gracious to those to whom I am gracious and I take pity on those on whom I take pity.	19 Rispose: "Io farò passare tutto il mio splendore davanti a te e pronuncerò davanti a te il nome del Signore. Farò grazia a chi farò grazia e avrò pietà di chi avrò pietà".
20 But my face', he said, 'you cannot see, for no human being can see me and survive.'	20 E aggiunse: "Non puoi vedere il mio volto, perché l'uomo non può vedermi e vivere".
21 Then Yahweh said, 'Here is a place near me. You will stand on the rock,	21 Il Signore disse: "Ecco un luogo vicino a me: ti terrai sulla roccia.
22 and when my glory passes by, I shal put you in a cleft of the rock and shield you with my hand until Ihave gone past.	22 Quando passerà la mia gloria, ti metterò nella fenditura della roccia e ti coprirò con la mia palma fino a quando sarò passato;
23 Then I shal take my hand away and you will see my back; but my face wil not be seen.'	23 poi ritirerò la mia palma e mi vedrai di spalla; ma il mio volto non si vedrà".
