Nehemiah 3

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Eliashib the high priest with his brother priests then set to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate; they madethe framework, hung its doors, fixed its bolts and bars and proceeded as far as the Tower of the Hundred andthe Tower of Hananel.	1 Si levò allora Eliasib, sommo sacerdote, assieme ai suoi fratelli sacerdoti, e costruirono la porta delle Pecore. Essi stessi la consacrarono e vi misero i battenti. Continuarono a costruire fino alla torre di Mea, che poi consacrarono, e fino alla torre di Cananeèl.
2 The men of Jericho built next to him; Zaccur son of Imri built next to them.	2 Accanto a loro edificarono gli uomini di Gerico. Vicino a questi costruì Zaccùr, figlio di Imri.
3 The sons of Ha-Senaah rebuilt the Fish Gate; they made the framework, hung its doors and fixed itsbolts and bars.	3 I figli di Senaa costruirono la porta dei Pesci; ne fecero l'intelaiatura, vi misero i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre.
4 Meremoth son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, carried out repairs next to them; Meshul am son of Berechiah,son of Meshezabel, carried out repairs next to him; and Zadok son of Baana carried out repairs next to him.	4 Accanto a loro lavorò alla restaurazione Meremòt, figlio di Uria, figlio di Hakkoz; vicino a costui Mesullàm, figlio di Berechia, figlio di Mesezabèel; vicino a questi riparò Zadòk, figlio di Baana.
5 The men of Tekoa carried out repairs next to him, though their nobles would not demean themselves tohelp their masters.	5 Accanto ad essi lavorarono alle riparazioni le genti di Tekòa; ma i loro notabili non piegarono il collo al servizio del loro Signore.
6 Joiada son of Paseah and Meshul am son of Besodeiah repaired the gate of the New Quarter; theymade the framework, hung its doors and fixed its bolts and bars.	6 Ioiadà, figlio di Pasèach, e Mesullàm, figlio di Besodia, ripararono la porta Vecchia. Essi ne fecero l'intelaiatura, vi misero i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre.
7 Next to them repairs were carried out by Melatiah of Gibeon, Jadon of Meronoth, and the men ofGibeon and Mizpah, for the sake of the governor of Transeuphrates.	7 Accanto a loro restaurarono Melatia, il gabaonita, Iadon, il meronotita e gli uomini di Gàbaon e di Mizpà, per conto del governatore dell'Oltrefiume.
8 Next to them repairs were carried out by Uzziel son of Harhaiah, a member of the metal-workers' guild,and next to him repairs were carried out by Hananiah of the perfumers' guild. These renovated the wall ofJerusalem as far as the Broad Wal .	8 Vicino a costoro lavorò per le riparazioni Uzziel, figlio di Caraia, uno degli orefici; e accanto a questi riparò Anania, uno dei profumieri. Essi restaurarono Gerusalemme fino al Muro Largo.
9 Next to them repairs were carried out by Rephaiah son of Hur, who was head of one half of the districtof Jerusalem.	9 Al loro fianco restaurò Refaia, figlio di Cur, capo di metà del distretto di Gerusalemme.
10 Next to them Jedaiah son of Harumaph carried out repairs opposite his own house; next to him repairswere carried out by Hattush son of Hashabneiah.	10 Al suo fianco restaurò Iedaiah, figlio di Carumaf, dirimpetto alla propria casa. Vicino a lui restaurò Cattus, figlio di Casabnià.
11 Malchijah son of Harim and Hasshub son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section as far as theFurnace Tower.	11 Malachia, figlio di Carim, e Cassùb, figlio di Pacat-Moab, restaurarono il tratto seguente e la torre dei Forni.
12 Next to them repairs were carried out by Shal um son of Hal ohesh, head of the other half of thedistrict of Jerusalem, by him and his sons.	12 Al loro fianco Sallùm, figlio di Allòches, capo di metà del distretto di Gerusalemme, lavorò alle riparazioni con le sue figlie.
13 Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired the Val ey Gate: they rebuilt it, hung its doors and fixedits bolts and bars; they also repaired a thousand cubits of wal up to the Dung Gate.	13 Ripararono la porta della Valle Canùn e gli abitanti di Zanòach. Essi la costruirono, vi misero i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre. Ricostruirono inoltre mille cubiti di muro, sino alla porta del Letame.
14 Malchijah son of Rechab, head of the district of Beth-ha-Cherem, repaired the Dung Gate; he rebuilt it,hung its doors and fixed its bolts and bars.	14 Malachia, figlio di Recàb, capo del distretto di Bet-Kerem, riparò la porta del Letame; la ricostruì, vi mise i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre.
15 Shallum son of Col-Hozeh, head of the district of Mizpah, repaired the Fountain Gate; he rebuilt it,roofed it, hung its doors and fixed its bolts and bars. He also rebuilt the wal of the Pool of Siloah, adjoining theking's garden, as far as the steps going down from the City of David.	15 La porta della Sorgente la restaurò Sallùn, figlio di Col-Coze, capo del distretto di Mizpà. Egli la costruì, la ricoperse, vi pose i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre. Ricostruì inoltre il muro della cisterna di Siloe, presso il giardino del re, fino ai gradini che scendono dalla Città di Davide.
16 After him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, head of half the district of Beth-Zur, carried out repairs from a pointopposite the Davidic Tombs to the artificial pool and the House of the Champions.	16 Dopo di lui Neemia, figlio di Azbuk, capo di metà del distretto di Bet-Zur, lavorò alle riparazioni dirimpetto ai sepolcri di Davide, fino alla cisterna artificiale e fino alla casa dei Prodi.
17 After him, repairs were carried out by the Levites: Rehum son of Bani; and next to him Hashabiah,head of one half of the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his own district.	17 Dopo di lui restaurarono i leviti: Recum, figlio di Bani, e vicino a lui Casabià, capo di metà del distretto di Keilà, per il suo distretto.
18 After him, repairs were carried out by their brothers: Binnui son of Henadad, head of the other half ofthe district of Keilah.	18 Dopo di essi lavorarono alle riparazioni i loro fratelli: Binnui, figlio di Chenadàd, capo dell'altra metà del distretto di Keilà.
19 Next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, headman of Mizpah, repaired another section in front of the ascentto the armoury at the Angle.	19 Accanto a lui Ezer, figlio di Giosuè, capo di Mizpà, riparò un altro settore, di fronte alla salita dell'arsenale, verso l'angolo.
20 After him, Baruch son of Zabbai repaired another section from the Angle to the door of the house ofEliashib the high priest.	20 Dopo di lui Baruch, figlio di Zaccai, restaurò un altro settore, dall'angolo fino all'ingresso della casa del sommo sacerdote Eliasib.
21 After him, Meremoth son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, repaired another section from the door of Eliashib'shouse as far as the end of Eliashib's house.	21 Meremòt, figlio di Uria, figlio di Hakkoz, restaurò, dopo di lui, un altro settore, dall'ingresso della casa di Eliasib sino alla fine di essa.
22 And after him repairs were carried out by the priests who lived in the district.	22 Dopo di lui lavorarono alle riparazioni i sacerdoti, abitanti delle adiacenze.
23 After them repairs were carried out by Benjamin and Hasshub, opposite their own house. After themrepairs were carried out by Azariah son of Maaseiah, son of Ananiah, beside his own house.	23 Dopo di loro restaurarono Beniamino e Cassùb, dirimpetto alle loro case. Dopo di essi Azaria, figlio di Maaseia, figlio di Anania, lavorò alle riparazioni presso la sua casa.
24 After him, Binnui son of Henadad repaired another section from Azariah's house as far as the Angle atthe corner.	24 Binnui, figlio di Chenadàd, riparò dopo di lui un altro settore, dalla casa di Azaria fino alla curva, cioè all'angolo.
25 After him, Palal son of Uzai carried out repairs in front of the Angle and the tower projecting from theking's Upper Palace by the Court of the Guard; and after him, Pedaiah son of Parosh carried out the repairs	25 Palal, figlio di Uzai, lavorò dirimpetto all'angolo e alla torre che sporge dalla casa superiore del re, che dà sul cortile della prigione; dopo di lui lavorò Pedaia, figlio di Pareos.
26 to a point by the Water Gate to the east and the projecting tower.	26 Gli oblati, che abitavano l'Ofel, restaurarono fin dirimpetto alla porta delle Acque, verso oriente, e di fronte alla torre sporgente.
27 After him, the men of Tekoa repaired another section from in front of the great projecting tower as faras the wal of Ophel.	27 Dopo di essi quelli di Tekòa restaurarono un altro settore, di fronte alla grande torre sporgente e fino al muro dell'Ofel.
28 From the Horse Gate onwards repairs were carried out by the priests, each in front of his own house.	28 Al di sopra della porta dei Cavalli, i sacerdoti lavorarono alle riparazioni, ciascuno di fronte alla propria casa.
29 After them repairs were carried out by Zadok son of Immer in front of his house, and after him repairswere carried out by Shemaiah son of Shechaniah, keeper of the East Gate.	29 Zadòk, figlio di Immer, restaurò dopo di loro, di fronte alla propria casa. E dopo di lui restaurò Semaia, figlio di Secania, custode della porta orientale.
30 After him Hananiah son of Shelemiah and Hanun sixth son of Zalaph repaired another section, afterwhom repairs were carried out by Meshul am son of Berechiah in front of his room.	30 Dopo di questi Anania, figlio di Selemia, e Canùn, sesto figlio di Zalaf, ripararono un altro settore. Dopo di loro Mesullàm, figlio di Berechia, restaurò di fronte alla sua camera.
31 After him Malchijah, of the metal-workers' guild, repaired as far as the Hal of the temple slaves andmerchants, in front of the Muster Gate, as far as the upper room at the corner.	31 Malchia, uno degli orefici, restaurò dopo di lui sino alla casa degli oblati e dei mercanti, dirimpetto alla porta della Rassegna e fino alla sala alta dell'angolo.
32 And between the upper room at the corner and the Sheep Gate repairs were carried out by thegoldsmiths and the merchants.	32 Tra la sala alta dell'angolo e la porta delle Pecore lavorarono alle riparazioni gli orefici e i mercanti.
33 When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wal , he became furiously angry.	33 Quando Sanballàt venne a sapere che noi edificavamo le mura, s'indignò e si adirò terribilmente. Prese a schernire i Giudei,
34 He ridiculed the Jews and in front of his kinsmen and the aristocracy of Samaria he exclaimed, 'Whatare these pathetic Jews doing . . . ? Are they going to give up? Or offer sacrifices? Or complete the work in aday? Can they put new life into stones taken from rubbish heaps and even charred?'	34 gridando davanti ai suoi fratelli e ai soldati di Samaria: "Che cosa stanno facendo questi miserabili Giudei? Saranno forse lasciati agire? Offriranno sacrifici e finiranno in un giorno solo? Faranno forse rivivere dai mucchi di polvere le pietre già bruciate dal fuoco?".
35 And beside him Tobiah of Ammon remarked, 'If a jackal were to jump on what they are building, itwould knock their stone wal down!'	35 Tobia, l'ammonita, che gli stava a fianco, esclamò: "Costruiscano pure! Ma se uno sciacallo si lancerà contro, rovescerà il loro muro di pietra!".
36 Listen, our God, for we are despised! Make their sneers fal back on their own heads! Send them asbooty to a land of captivity!	36 Ascolta, o nostro Dio, perché siamo oggetto di scherno! Fa' ricadere sul loro capo il loro vituperio e abbandonali alla derisione in una terra di schiavitù!
37 Do not pardon their wickedness, may their sin never be erased before you, for they have insulted thebuilders to their face!	37 Non nascondere la loro iniquità e il loro peccato non sia cancellato dal tuo cospetto; giacché essi hanno pronunciato insulti in faccia ai costruttori.
38 Meanwhile we were rebuilding the wal , which was soon joined up al the way round to mid-height; thepeople put their hearts into the work.	38 Orbene, noi ricostruimmo le mura, completandole totalmente fino a mezza altezza. La volontà del popolo era di agire.
