Nehemiah 3

1 Eliashib the high priest with his brother priests then set to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate; they madethe framework, hung its doors, fixed its bolts and bars and proceeded as far as the Tower of the Hundred andthe Tower of Hananel.	1 Et surrexit Eliasib sacerdos magnus et fratres eius sacerdotes etaedificaverunt portam Gregis; contignaverunt eam et statuerunt valvas eius etusque ad turrim Meah et turrim Hananeel.
2 The men of Jericho built next to him; Zaccur son of Imri built next to them.	2 Et iuxta eos aedificaverunt viriIericho, et iuxta eos aedificavit Zacchur filius Imri.
3 The sons of Ha-Senaah rebuilt the Fish Gate; they made the framework, hung its doors and fixed itsbolts and bars.	3 Portam autem Piscium aedificaverunt filii Asnaa; ipsi contignaverunt eam etstatuerunt valvas eius et seras et vectes.
4 Meremoth son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, carried out repairs next to them; Meshul am son of Berechiah,son of Meshezabel, carried out repairs next to him; and Zadok son of Baana carried out repairs next to him.	4 Et iuxta eos restauravit Meremothfilius Uriae filii Accos, et iuxta eum restauravit Mosollam filius Barachiaefilii Mesezabel, et iuxta eum restauravit Sadoc filius Baana,
5 The men of Tekoa carried out repairs next to him, though their nobles would not demean themselves tohelp their masters.	5 et iuxta eumrestauraverunt Thecueni; optimates autem eorum non supposuerunt colla sua inopere Domini sui.
6 Joiada son of Paseah and Meshul am son of Besodeiah repaired the gate of the New Quarter; theymade the framework, hung its doors and fixed its bolts and bars.	6 Et portam Veterem restauraverunt Ioiada filius Phasea et Mosollam filiusBesodia; ipsi contignaverunt eam et statuerunt valvas eius et seras et vectes.
7 Next to them repairs were carried out by Melatiah of Gibeon, Jadon of Meronoth, and the men ofGibeon and Mizpah, for the sake of the governor of Transeuphrates.	7 Et iuxta eos restauraverunt Meltias Gabaonites et Iadon Meronathites, viri deGabaon et Maspha, qui erant ad solium ducis, qui erat in regione trans flumen;
8 Next to them repairs were carried out by Uzziel son of Harhaiah, a member of the metal-workers' guild,and next to him repairs were carried out by Hananiah of the perfumers' guild. These renovated the wall ofJerusalem as far as the Broad Wal .	8 et iuxta eos restauravit Oziel filius Araia de aurificibus, et iuxta eumrestauravit Hananias de pigmentariis et firmaverunt Ierusalem usque ad murumlatiorem.
9 Next to them repairs were carried out by Rephaiah son of Hur, who was head of one half of the districtof Jerusalem.	9 Et iuxta eum restauravit Raphaia filius Hur, princeps dimidiaepartis vici Ierusalem;
10 Next to them Jedaiah son of Harumaph carried out repairs opposite his own house; next to him repairswere carried out by Hattush son of Hashabneiah.	10 et iuxta eum restauravit Iedaia filius Haromaph contradomum suam, et iuxta eum restauravit Hattus filius Hasabneia.
11 Malchijah son of Harim and Hasshub son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section as far as theFurnace Tower.	11 Alteram partemrestauravit Melchias filius Harim et Hassub filius Phahathmoab usque ad turrimFurnorum.
12 Next to them repairs were carried out by Shal um son of Hal ohesh, head of the other half of thedistrict of Jerusalem, by him and his sons.	12 Et iuxta eos restauravit Sellum filius Alohes, princeps mediaepartis vici Ierusalem, ipse et filiae eius.
13 Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired the Val ey Gate: they rebuilt it, hung its doors and fixedits bolts and bars; they also repaired a thousand cubits of wal up to the Dung Gate.	13 Portam Vallis restauravit Hanun et habitatores Zanoa; ipsi aedificaverunt eamet statuerunt valvas eius et seras et vectes et mille cubitos in muro usque adportam Sterquilinii.
14 Malchijah son of Rechab, head of the district of Beth-ha-Cherem, repaired the Dung Gate; he rebuilt it,hung its doors and fixed its bolts and bars.	14 Et portam Sterquilinii restauravit Melchias filiusRechab, princeps vici Bethcharem; ipse aedificavit eam et statuit valvas eius etseras et vectes.
15 Shallum son of Col-Hozeh, head of the district of Mizpah, repaired the Fountain Gate; he rebuilt it,roofed it, hung its doors and fixed its bolts and bars. He also rebuilt the wal of the Pool of Siloah, adjoining theking's garden, as far as the steps going down from the City of David.	15 Et portam Fontis restauravit Sellum filius Cholhoza princeps pagi Maspha;ipse aedificavit eam et texit et statuit valvas eius et seras et vectes et murumpiscinae Siloae iuxta hortum regis et usque ad gradus, qui descendunt decivitate David.
16 After him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, head of half the district of Beth-Zur, carried out repairs from a pointopposite the Davidic Tombs to the artificial pool and the House of the Champions.	16 Post eum restauravit Nehemias filius Azboc princeps dimidiaepartis vici Bethsur usque contra sepulcra David et usque ad piscinam, quaerepleta est, et usque ad domum Fortium.
17 After him, repairs were carried out by the Levites: Rehum son of Bani; and next to him Hashabiah,head of one half of the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his own district.	17 Post eum restauraverunt Levitae,Rehum filius Bani; iuxta eum restauravit Hasabias princeps dimidiae partis viciCeilae pro vico suo;
18 After him, repairs were carried out by their brothers: Binnui son of Henadad, head of the other half ofthe district of Keilah.	18 post eum aedificaverunt fratres eorum Bavai filiusHenadad princeps dimidiae partis vici Ceilae.
19 Next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, headman of Mizpah, repaired another section in front of the ascentto the armoury at the Angle.	19 Et restauravit iuxta eum Ezerfilius Iesua princeps Maspha mensuram alteram contra ascensum armentarii inangulo.
20 After him, Baruch son of Zabbai repaired another section from the Angle to the door of the house ofEliashib the high priest.	20 Post eum restauravit Baruch filius Zachai mensuram alteram ab angulo usque adportam domus Eliasib sacerdotis magni.
21 After him, Meremoth son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, repaired another section from the door of Eliashib'shouse as far as the end of Eliashib's house.	21 Post eum restauravit Meremoth filiusUriae filii Aecos mensuram secundam a porta domus Eliasib usque ad extremitatemdomus Eliasib.
22 And after him repairs were carried out by the priests who lived in the district.	22 Et post eum restauraverunt sacerdotes viri de campestribus.
23 After them repairs were carried out by Benjamin and Hasshub, opposite their own house. After themrepairs were carried out by Azariah son of Maaseiah, son of Ananiah, beside his own house.	23 Post eos restauravit Beniamin et Hassub contra domum suam; post eos restauravitAzarias filius Maasiae filii Ananiae iuxta domum suam.
24 After him, Binnui son of Henadad repaired another section from Azariah's house as far as the Angle atthe corner.	24 Post eum restauravitBennui filius Henadad mensuram alteram a domo Azariae usque ad angulum etflexuram.
25 After him, Palal son of Uzai carried out repairs in front of the Angle and the tower projecting from theking's Upper Palace by the Court of the Guard; and after him, Pedaiah son of Parosh carried out the repairs	25 Phalel filius Ozi contra angulum turris, quae eminet de domo regisexcelsa in atrio carceris; post eum Phadaia filius Pharos restauravit
26 to a point by the Water Gate to the east and the projecting tower.	26 usquecontra portam Aquarum ad orientem et turrim, quae prominebat.
27 After him, the men of Tekoa repaired another section from in front of the great projecting tower as faras the wal of Ophel.	27 Post eumrestauraverunt Thecueni mensuram alteram a regione contra magnam turrimeminentem usque ad murum templi.
28 From the Horse Gate onwards repairs were carried out by the priests, each in front of his own house.	28 Sursum autem a porta Equorum restauraverunt sacerdotes, unusquisque contradomum suam.
29 After them repairs were carried out by Zadok son of Immer in front of his house, and after him repairswere carried out by Shemaiah son of Shechaniah, keeper of the East Gate.	29 Post eos restauravit Sadoc filius Emmer contra domum suam; etpost eum restauravit Semeia filius Secheniae custos portae orientalis.
30 After him Hananiah son of Shelemiah and Hanun sixth son of Zalaph repaired another section, afterwhom repairs were carried out by Meshul am son of Berechiah in front of his room.	30 Posteum restauravit Hanania filius Selemiae et Hanun filius Seleph sextus mensuramalteram. Post eum restauravit Mosollam filius Barachiae contra cellam suam.
31 After him Malchijah, of the metal-workers' guild, repaired as far as the Hal of the temple slaves andmerchants, in front of the Muster Gate, as far as the upper room at the corner.	31 Post eum restauravit Melchias de aurificibus usque ad domum oblatorum etmercatorum, contra portam Iudicialem, et usque ad cenaculum anguli;
32 And between the upper room at the corner and the Sheep Gate repairs were carried out by thegoldsmiths and the merchants.	32 et intercenaculum anguli et portam Gregis restauraverunt aurifices et negotiatores.
33 When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wal , he became furiously angry.	33 Factum est autem, cum audisset Sanaballat quod aedificaremus murum, iratusest et indignatus est nimis et subsannavit Iudaeos
34 He ridiculed the Jews and in front of his kinsmen and the aristocracy of Samaria he exclaimed, 'Whatare these pathetic Jews doing . . . ? Are they going to give up? Or offer sacrifices? Or complete the work in aday? Can they put new life into stones taken from rubbish heaps and even charred?'	34 et dixit coram fratribussuis et optimatibus Samariae: “ Quid Iudaei faciunt imbecilles? Num hocconceditur eis? Num, quia sacrificant, complebunt in una die? Numquid vivificarepoterunt lapides de acervis pulveris, qui combusti sunt? ”.
35 And beside him Tobiah of Ammon remarked, 'If a jackal were to jump on what they are building, itwould knock their stone wal down!'	35 Sed et ThobiasAmmanites, qui erat ad latus eius, ait: “ Sine aedificare; si ascenderitvulpes, diruet murum eorum lapideum ”.
36 Listen, our God, for we are despised! Make their sneers fal back on their own heads! Send them asbooty to a land of captivity!	36 Audi, Deus noster, quia facti sumus irrisio! Converte contumeliam eorum supercaput eorum et da eos in irrisionem in terra captivitatis!
37 Do not pardon their wickedness, may their sin never be erased before you, for they have insulted thebuilders to their face!	37 Ne operiasiniquitatem eorum, et peccatum eorum coram facie tua non deleatur, quiaoffenderunt te coram aedificantibus.
38 Meanwhile we were rebuilding the wal , which was soon joined up al the way round to mid-height; thepeople put their hearts into the work.	38 Itaque aedificavimus murum, et compositus est totus murus usque ad partemdimidiam, et populus dabat cor suum, ut operaretur.
