1 Eliashib the high priest with his brother priests then set to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate; they madethe framework, hung its doors, fixed its bolts and bars and proceeded as far as the Tower of the Hundred andthe Tower of Hananel.	1 Ed Eliasib sommo Sacerdote, e i suoi fratelli sacerdoti intrapreser di fabbricare la porta del gregge. Ei la consagrarono, e vi messero le sue imposte, e consagrarono (lo spazio) fino alla torre di cento cubiti, e fino alla torre di Hananeel.
2 The men of Jericho built next to him; Zaccur son of Imri built next to them.	2 E presso a lui fabbricarono quelli di Gerico; e presso a lui fabbrico Zachur figliuolo di Amri.
3 The sons of Ha-Senaah rebuilt the Fish Gate; they made the framework, hung its doors and fixed itsbolts and bars.	3 La porta de' pesci fu edificata da' figliuoli di Asnaa: ei vi posero l'architrave, e le imposte, e le serrature, e le sbarre. E accanto a loro fabbricò Marimuth figliuolo di Uria, figliuolo di Accus.
4 Meremoth son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, carried out repairs next to them; Meshul am son of Berechiah,son of Meshezabel, carried out repairs next to him; and Zadok son of Baana carried out repairs next to him.	4 E presso a questo fabbricò Mosollam figliuolo di Barachia, figliuolo di Mesezebel: e presso a questi fabbricò Sadoc figliuolo di Baana.
5 The men of Tekoa carried out repairs next to him, though their nobles would not demean themselves tohelp their masters.	5 E presso a questi edificaron quelli di Thecua: ma i principali loro cittadini non piegarono i loro colli a faticare all'opera del loro Signore.
6 Joiada son of Paseah and Meshul am son of Besodeiah repaired the gate of the New Quarter; theymade the framework, hung its doors and fixed its bolts and bars.	6 La porta vecchia fu edificata da Joiada figliuolo di Phasea, e da Mosollam figliuolo di Besodia: ei vi posero l'architrave, e le imposte, e le serrature, e le sbarre:
7 Next to them repairs were carried out by Melatiah of Gibeon, Jadon of Meronoth, and the men ofGibeon and Mizpah, for the sake of the governor of Transeuphrates.	7 E presso a questi fabbricarono Meltia di Gabaon, e Jadon di Meronath, e gli uomini di Gabaon, e di Maspha pel governatore del paese, che stava di là dal fiume.
8 Next to them repairs were carried out by Uzziel son of Harhaiah, a member of the metal-workers' guild,and next to him repairs were carried out by Hananiah of the perfumers' guild. These renovated the wall ofJerusalem as far as the Broad Wal .	8 E presso a lui fabbricò Eziel figliuolo di Araia, orefice: e presso a lui fabbricò Hanania figliuolo di un profumiere: e lasciarono stare la parte di Gerusalemme, che va fino al muro della piazza maggiore.
9 Next to them repairs were carried out by Rephaiah son of Hur, who was head of one half of the districtof Jerusalem.	9 E presso a lui fabbricò Raphaia figliuolo di Hur, capo di una regione di Gerusalemme.
10 Next to them Jedaiah son of Harumaph carried out repairs opposite his own house; next to him repairswere carried out by Hattush son of Hashabneiah.	10 E presso a lui fabbricò Jedaia figliuolo ai Haromaph, dirimpetto alla sua casa: e presso a lui fabbrico Hattus figliuolo di Hasebonia.
11 Malchijah son of Harim and Hasshub son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section as far as theFurnace Tower.	11 La metà di una regione, e la torre de' forni fu fabbricata da Melchia figliuolo di Herem, e da Hasub figliuolo di Phahath-Moab.
12 Next to them repairs were carried out by Shal um son of Hal ohesh, head of the other half of thedistrict of Jerusalem, by him and his sons.	12 E presso a lui fabbricò Sellum figliuolo di Alohes, capo della metà di una regione di Gerusalemme; egli, e le sue figliuole.
13 Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired the Val ey Gate: they rebuilt it, hung its doors and fixedits bolts and bars; they also repaired a thousand cubits of wal up to the Dung Gate.	13 E la porta della valle fu edificata da Hanun, e dagli abitanti di Zanne: essi la fabbricarono, e vi poser le imposte, e le serrature, e le sbarre, e fecer mille cubiti di muraglia fino alla porta stercoraria.
14 Malchijah son of Rechab, head of the district of Beth-ha-Cherem, repaired the Dung Gate; he rebuilt it,hung its doors and fixed its bolts and bars.	14 E la porta stercoraria fu fabbricata da Melchia figliuolo di Rechab, capo del quartiere di Bethacharam: egli la fabbricò, e vi pose imposte, e le serrature, e le sbarre.
15 Shallum son of Col-Hozeh, head of the district of Mizpah, repaired the Fountain Gate; he rebuilt it,roofed it, hung its doors and fixed its bolts and bars. He also rebuilt the wal of the Pool of Siloah, adjoining theking's garden, as far as the steps going down from the City of David.	15 E la porta della fontana fu edificata da Sellum figliuolo di Cholhoza, capo del quartiere di Maspha: egli la edificò, e vi pose l'architrave, e le imposte, e le serrature, e le sbarre, e fece le muraglie della piscina di Siloe fino all'orto del re, e fino alla scalinata, per cui si scende dalla città di David.
16 After him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, head of half the district of Beth-Zur, carried out repairs from a pointopposite the Davidic Tombs to the artificial pool and the House of the Champions.	16 Appresso a lui fabbricò Nehemia figliuolo di Azboc, capo della metà del quartiere di Bethsur, fin dirimpetto al sepolcro di David, e fino alla piscina, che fu costrutta con grand'arte, e fino alla casa dei forti.
17 After him, repairs were carried out by the Levites: Rehum son of Bani; and next to him Hashabiah,head of one half of the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his own district.	17 Dopo di lui fabbricarono i Leviti, Rehum figliuolo di Benni: e dopo di lui Hasebia, capo della metà del quartiere di Ceila pel suo quartiere.
18 After him, repairs were carried out by their brothers: Binnui son of Henadad, head of the other half ofthe district of Keilah.	18 Dopo dì lui fabbricarono i suoi fratelli: Bavai figliuolo di Enadad, capo della metà del quartiere di Ceila.
19 Next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, headman of Mizpah, repaired another section in front of the ascentto the armoury at the Angle.	19 E dopo di questo Azer figliuolo di Josuè, capo del quartiere di Maspha, edifico la parte seconda dirimpetto alla salita dell'angolo fortificato.
20 After him, Baruch son of Zabbai repaired another section from the Angle to the door of the house ofEliashib the high priest.	20 Dopo di lui Baruch figliuolo di Zachai fabbricò sul monte la seconda parte, dall'angolo fino alla porta della casa di Eliasib sommo Sacerdote.
21 After him, Meremoth son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz, repaired another section from the door of Eliashib'shouse as far as the end of Eliashib's house.	21 Dopo di lui Merimuth figliuolo di Uria, figliuolo di Haccus, fabbricò la seconda parte, dalla porta della casa di Eliasib, quanto si stendeva la casa di Eliasib.
22 And after him repairs were carried out by the priests who lived in the district.	22 E dopo di lui fabbricarono i sacerdoti abitanti nelle pianure del Giordano.
23 After them repairs were carried out by Benjamin and Hasshub, opposite their own house. After themrepairs were carried out by Azariah son of Maaseiah, son of Ananiah, beside his own house.	23 Dopo di essi fabbricarono Beniamin, e Hasub, dirimpetto alle loro case: e dopo di questi Azaria figliuolo di Maasia, figliuolo di Hanania dirimpetto alla sua casa.
24 After him, Binnui son of Henadad repaired another section from Azariah's house as far as the Angle atthe corner.	24 Dopo di lui fabbricò Bennuì figliuolo di Henadad la seconda parte, alla casa di Azaria fino alla svolta, e all'angolo.
25 After him, Palal son of Uzai carried out repairs in front of the Angle and the tower projecting from theking's Upper Palace by the Court of the Guard; and after him, Pedaiah son of Parosh carried out the repairs	25 Phalel figliuolo di Ozi (fabbrico) dirimpetto alla svolta, e alla torre, che spunta dalla parte superiore della casa del re, viene a dire, lungo l'atrio della prigione: dopo di lui Phadaia figliuolo di Pharos.
26 to a point by the Water Gate to the east and the projecting tower.	26 Or i Nathinei abitavano in Ophel sin dirimpetto alla porta delle acque verso Levante, a sino alla torre, che sporge in fuora.
27 After him, the men of Tekoa repaired another section from in front of the great projecting tower as faras the wal of Ophel.	27 Dopo di lui fabbricarono quelli di Thecua la seconda parte a dirimpetto, dalla gran torre, che scappa in mora, sino alla muraglia del tempio.
28 From the Horse Gate onwards repairs were carried out by the priests, each in front of his own house.	28 E all'insù dalla porta de' cavalli fabbricarono i sacerdoti, ciascuno di rimpetto alla propria casa.
29 After them repairs were carried out by Zadok son of Immer in front of his house, and after him repairswere carried out by Shemaiah son of Shechaniah, keeper of the East Gate.	29 Dopo di essi Sadoc figliuolo di Emmer fabbricò dirimpetto a sua casa. E dopo di lui fabbrico Semaia figliuolo di Sechenta, custode della porta orientale (del tempio).
30 After him Hananiah son of Shelemiah and Hanun sixth son of Zalaph repaired another section, afterwhom repairs were carried out by Meshul am son of Berechiah in front of his room.	30 Dopo di lui edificarono Hanania figliuolo di Selemia, e Hanun, sesto figliuolo di Seleph, la seconda parte: dopo di questi fabbricò Mosollam figliuolo di Barachia dirimpetto al suo erario. Dopo di lui Melchia figliuolo di un orefice fabbricò sino alla casa de' Nathinei, e de' merciai dirimpetto alla porta de giudici, e sino alla sala dell'angolo.
31 After him Malchijah, of the metal-workers' guild, repaired as far as the Hal of the temple slaves andmerchants, in front of the Muster Gate, as far as the upper room at the corner.	31 E lungo la sala dell'angolo alla porta del gregge fabbricaron gli orefici, e i mercatanti.
32 And between the upper room at the corner and the Sheep Gate repairs were carried out by thegoldsmiths and the merchants.
33 When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wal , he became furiously angry.
34 He ridiculed the Jews and in front of his kinsmen and the aristocracy of Samaria he exclaimed, 'Whatare these pathetic Jews doing . . . ? Are they going to give up? Or offer sacrifices? Or complete the work in aday? Can they put new life into stones taken from rubbish heaps and even charred?'
35 And beside him Tobiah of Ammon remarked, 'If a jackal were to jump on what they are building, itwould knock their stone wal down!'
36 Listen, our God, for we are despised! Make their sneers fal back on their own heads! Send them asbooty to a land of captivity!
37 Do not pardon their wickedness, may their sin never be erased before you, for they have insulted thebuilders to their face!
38 Meanwhile we were rebuilding the wal , which was soon joined up al the way round to mid-height; thepeople put their hearts into the work.
