1 The people of the land then took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and proclaimed him king of Jerusalem insuccession to his father.	1 ויקחו עם הארץ את יהואחז בן יאשיהו וימליכהו תחת אביו בירושלם
2 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for three months inJerusalem.	2 בן שלוש ועשרים שנה יואחז במלכו ושלשה חדשים מלך בירושלם
3 The king of Egypt deposed him in Jerusalem and imposed a levy of a hundred talents of silver andone talent of gold on the country.	3 ויסירהו מלך מצרים בירושלם ויענש את הארץ מאה ככר כסף וככר זהב
4 The king of Egypt then made his brother Eliakim king of Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his nameto Jehoiakim. Carrying off his brother Jehoahaz, Necho took him to Egypt.	4 וימלך מלך מצרים את אליקים אחיו על יהודה וירושלם ויסב את שמו יהויקים ואת יואחז אחיו לקח נכו ויביאהו מצרימה
5 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eleven years inJerusalem. He did what is displeasing to Yahweh his God.	5 בן עשרים וחמש שנה יהויקים במלכו ואחת עשרה שנה מלך בירושלם ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה אלהיו
6 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked him, loaded him with chains and took him to Babylon.	6 עליו עלה נבוכדנאצר מלך בבל ויאסרהו בנחשתים להליכו בבלה
7 To Babylon Nebuchadnezzar also took some of the objects belonging to the Temple of Yahweh andput them in his palace in Babylon.	7 ומכלי בית יהוה הביא נבוכדנאצר לבבל ויתנם בהיכלו בבבל
8 The rest of the history of Jehoiakim, the shameful things that he did and what happened to him inconsequence, these are recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. His son Jehoiachin succeededhim.	8 ויתר דברי יהויקים ותעבתיו אשר עשה והנמצא עליו הנם כתובים על ספר מלכי ישראל ויהודה וימלך יהויכין בנו תחתיו
9 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for three months andten days in Jerusalem. He did what is displeasing to Yahweh.	9 בן שמונה שנים יהויכין במלכו ושלשה חדשים ועשרת ימים מלך בירושלם ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה
10 At the turn of the year, King Nebuchadnezzar sent for him and had him taken to Babylon, with thevaluables belonging to the Temple of Yahweh, and made his brother Zedekiah king of Judah and Jerusalem.	10 ולתשובת השנה שלח המלך נבוכדנאצר ויבאהו בבלה עם כלי חמדת בית יהוה וימלך את צדקיהו אחיו על יהודה וירושלם
11 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eleven years inJerusalem.	11 בן עשרים ואחת שנה צדקיהו במלכו ואחת עשרה שנה מלך בירושלם
12 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh his God. He did not listen humbly to the prophet Jeremiah whospoke for Yahweh.	12 ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה אלהיו לא נכנע מלפני ירמיהו הנביא מפי יהוה
13 Furthermore, he rebel ed against King Nebuchadnezzar who had made him swear al egiance to himby God. He became stubborn, and obstinately refused to return to Yahweh, God of Israel.	13 וגם במלך נבוכדנאצר מרד אשר השביעו באלהים ויקש את ערפו ויאמץ את לבבו משוב אל יהוה אלהי ישראל
14 Furthermore, al the leaders of Judah, the priests and the people too, added infidelity to infidelity,copying al the shameful practices of the nations and defiling the Temple of Yahweh which he himself hadconsecrated in Jerusalem.	14 גם כל שרי הכהנים והעם הרבו למעול מעל ככל תעבות הגוים ויטמאו את בית יהוה אשר הקדיש בירושלם
15 Yahweh, God of their ancestors, continuously sent them word through his messengers because hefelt sorry for his people and his dwel ing,	15 וישלח יהוה אלהי אבותיהם עליהם ביד מלאכיו השכם ושלוח כי חמל על עמו ועל מעונו
16 but they ridiculed the messengers of God, they despised his words, they laughed at his prophets,until Yahweh's wrath with his people became so fierce that there was no further remedy.	16 ויהיו מלעבים במלאכי האלהים ובוזים דבריו ומתעתעים בנבאיו עד עלות חמת יהוה בעמו עד לאין מרפא
17 So against them he summoned the king of the Chaldaeans and he put their young men to the swordwithin the very building of their Temple, not sparing young man or girl, or the old and infirm; he put them al at hismercy.	17 ויעל עליהם את מלך כשדיים ויהרג בחוריהם בחרב בבית מקדשם ולא חמל על בחור ובתולה זקן וישש הכל נתן בידו
18 Al the things belonging to the Temple of God, whether large or smal , the treasures of the Temple ofYahweh, the treasures of the king and his officials, everything he took to Babylon.	18 וכל כלי בית האלהים הגדלים והקטנים ואצרות בית יהוה ואצרות המלך ושריו הכל הביא בבל
19 He burned down the temple of God, demolished the wal s of Jerusalem, burned al its palaces to theground and destroyed everything of value in it.	19 וישרפו את בית האלהים וינתצו את חומת ירושלם וכל ארמנותיה שרפו באש וכל כלי מחמדיה להשחית
20 And those who had escaped the sword he deported to Babylon, where they were enslaved by himand his descendants until the rise of the kingdom of Persia,	20 ויגל השארית מן החרב אל בבל ויהיו לו ולבניו לעבדים עד מלך מלכות פרס
21 to fulfil Yahweh's prophecy through Jeremiah: Until the country has paid off its Sabbaths, it wil liefal ow for al the days of its desolation -- until the seventy years are complete.	21 למלאות דבר יהוה בפי ירמיהו עד רצתה הארץ את שבתותיה כל ימי השמה שבתה למלאות שבעים שנה
22 In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia -- to fulfil the word of Yahweh through Jeremiah -- Yahwehroused the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to issue a proclamation and to have it publicly displayed throughout hiskingdom:	22 ובשנת אחת לכורש מלך פרס לכלות דבר יהוה בפי ירמיהו העיר יהוה את רוח כורש מלך פרס ויעבר קול בכל מלכותו וגם במכתב לאמר
23 'Cyrus king of Persia says this, "Yahweh, the God of Heaven, has given me al the kingdoms of theearth and has appointed me to build him a Temple in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among youof al his people, may his God be with him! Let him go up." '	23 כה אמר כורש מלך פרס כל ממלכות הארץ נתן לי יהוה אלהי השמים והוא פקד עלי לבנות לו בית בירושלם אשר ביהודה מי בכם מכל עמו יהוה אלהיו עמו ויעל
