NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah became king of Judah	1 En el año decimoctavo del reinado de Jeroboam, comenzó a reinar Abías sobre Judá
2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Micaiah daughter of Uriel of Gibeah.When war broke out between Abijah and Jeroboam,	2 y reinó tres años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Micaía, hija de Uriel, de Guibeá. Abías y Jeroboam se hicieron la guerra.
3 Abijah took the field with an army of four hundred thousand picked warriors, while Jeroboam took thefield against him with eight hundred thousand picked warriors.	3 Abías entró en combate con un ejército de cuatrocientos mil guerreros escogidos, y Jeroboam se alineó contra él con ochocientos mil guerreros escogidos.
4 Abijah took position on Mount Zemaraim, in the highlands of Ephraim. 'Jeroboam and al Israel,' hecried, 'listen to me!	4 Abías se paró sobre el monte Semaraim, que está en la montaña de Efraím, y dijo: «¡Escuchen, Jeroboam y todo Israel!
5 Do you not know that Yahweh, God of Israel, has given eternal sovereignty of Israel to David and hissons by an inviolable covenant?	5 ¿Acaso no saben que el Señor, el Dios de Israel, ha dado a David y a sus hijos del reino de Israel para siempre, por medio de una alianza de sal?
6 Yet Jeroboam son of Nebat, the slave of Solomon son of David, rose in revolt against his master.	6 Pero Jeroboam, hijo de Nebat, servidor de Salomón, hijo de David, se reveló contra su señor.
7 Worthless men, scoundrels, ral ied to him, proving too strong for Rehoboam son of Solomon, asRehoboam was then inexperienced and timid and unable to resist them.	7 Unos hombres inútiles e impíos se unieron a él y prevalecieron sobre Roboam, hijo de Salomón, porque Roboam era joven y débil, y no supo hacerles frente.
8 And now you propose to resist Yahweh's sovereignty as exercised by the sons of David becausethere is a great number of you and you have the golden calves that Jeroboam made you for gods!	8 ¡Ahora ustedes tratan de resistir a la soberanía del Señor, que está en manos de los hijos de David! ¡Ustedes son una enorme multitud y tienen los terneros de oro que Jeroboam les dio como dioses!
9 Have you not driven out the priests of Yahweh, the sons of Aaron and the Levites, to make priests ofyour own like the peoples of foreign countries? Anyone who comes with a bul and seven rams to get himselfconsecrated can become priest of these gods that are no gods.	9 ¿Acaso no han expulsado a los sacerdotes del Señor, a los hijos de Aarón y a los levitas, para establecer sacerdotes a la manera de los pueblos paganos? Porque cualquiera que viene con un ternero y siete carneros para recibir la investidura, puede llegar a ser sacerdote de los que no son dioses.
10 But for our part, our God is Yahweh, and we have not abandoned him; our priests are sons of Aaronwho minister to Yahweh, and those who serve are Levites;	10 En cuanto a nosotros, nuestro Dios es el Señor y no le hemos abandonado: los sacerdotes que sirven al Señor son los hijos de Aarón y los que ejercen el ministerio son los levitas.
11 morning after morning, evening after evening, they present burnt offerings and perfumed incense toYahweh, they put the bread of permanent offering on the clean table and nightly light the lamps on the goldenlamp-stand; for we keep the decree of Yahweh our God, although you have abandoned him.	11 Todas las mañas y todas las tardes, ellos ofrecen holocaustos al Señor y queman el incienso aromático, disponen los panes de la ofrenda sobre la mesa pura y encienden todas las tardes el candelabro de oro con sus lámparas. Porque nosotros observamos las disposiciones del Señor, nuestro Dios, que ustedes han abandonado.
12 See how God is with us, at our head, and his priests with trumpets to sound the alarm against you!Israelites, do not make war on Yahweh, God of your ancestors, for you wil not succeed.'	12 ¡Aquí está Dios al frente de nosotros, aquí están los sacerdotes con las trompetas, listos para hacer resonar el grito de guerra contra ustedes! ¡Israelitas, no hagan la guerra contra el Señor, el Dios de sus padres, porque nada conseguirán!».
13 Now Jeroboam had sent a party round to ambush them from the rear; thus the main force confrontedJudah and the ambush lay to their rear.	13 Mientras tanto, Jeroboam hizo dar un rodeo para tender una emboscada y atacar a los hombres de Judá por la espalda, de manera que ellos quedaron delante de Judá y la emboscada detrás.
14 And when Judah looked round, they found themselves being attacked from front and rear. Theycal ed on Yahweh, the priests sounded the trumpets,	14 Al darse vuelta, los de Judá advirtieron que les presentaban combate por delante y por detrás. Entonces clamaron al Señor y los sacerdotes tocaron las trompetas.
15 and the men of Judah raised the war cry and, as they raised the cry, God routed Jeroboam and allIsrael before Abijah and Judah.	15 Los hombres de Judá lanzaron el grito de guerra, y mientras ellos gritaban, Dios derrotó a Jeroboam y a todo Israel delante de Abías y de Judá.
16 So the Israelites fled before Judah, because God had given Judah the upper hand,	16 Los israelitas huyeron delante de Judá, pero Dios los entregó en sus manos:
17 and Abijah and his army inflicted a great slaughter on them: five hundred thousand of Israel's pickedmen fel , kil ed.	17 Abías y su ejército les infligieron una gran derrota, y cayeron quinientos mil hombres escogidos de Israel.
18 So the Israelites were humbled on that occasion, while the Judaeans won, since they had relied onYahweh, God of their ancestors.	18 En esa ocasión, los israelitas quedaron humillados, mientras que los de Judá se fortalecieron por haberse apoyado en el Señor, el Dios de sus padres.
19 Abijah pursued Jeroboam, taking from him the towns of Bethel with its dependencies, Jeshanah withits dependencies and Ephron with its dependencies,	19 Abías persiguió a Jeroboam y le arrebató las ciudades de Betel, Iesaná y Efrón con sus respectivos poblados,
20 nor did Jeroboam regain strength during Abijah's lifetime. Eventual y Yahweh struck him and he died,	20 Jeroboam ya no recuperó su poderío en los tiempos de Abías: el Señor lo hirió gravemente y él murió.
21 but Abijah grew stronger than ever; he married fourteen wives and fathered twenty-two sons andsixteen daughters.	21 Abías, por el contrario, se hizo cada vez más fuerte. Tuvo catorce mujeres, veintidós hijos y dieciséis hijas.
22 The rest of the history of Abijah, his conduct and his sayings, are recorded in the midrash of theprophet Iddo.	22 El resto de la historia de Abías, sus obras y sus hazañas, están escritos en el Comentario del profeta Idó.
23 When Abijah fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asasucceeded him. In his time the country was at peace for ten years.	23 Abías se fue a descansar con sus padres y lo sepultaron en la Ciudad de David. Su hijo Asá reinó en lugar de él. En tiempos de este el país gozó de paz durante diez años.
