2 Kings 6

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The brotherhood of prophets said to Elisha, 'Look, the place where we are living with you is too smal forus.	1 Les frères prophètes dirent à Elisée: "Voici que l'endroit où nous habitons près de toi est trop étroitpour nous.
2 Let us go to the Jordan, then, and each of us cut a beam there, and we will make our living quartersthere.' He replied, 'Go.'	2 Allons donc jusqu'au Jourdain; nous y prendrons chacun une poutre et nous nous ferons là unedemeure." Il répondit: "Allez."
3 'Be good enough to go with your servants,' one of them said. 'I wil go,' he replied,	3 L'un d'eux dit: "Consens à accompagner tes serviteurs", et il répondit: "J'irai";
4 and went with them. On reaching the Jordan they began cutting down timber.	4 il partit avec eux. Arrivés au Jourdain, ils coupèrent le bois.
5 But, as one of them was felling his beam, the iron axehead fel into the water. 'Alas, my lord,' heexclaimed, 'and it was a borrowed one too!'	5 Or, comme l'un deux abattait sa poutre, la lame de fer tomba dans l'eau, et il s'écria: "Hélas,Monseigneur! Et encore elle était empruntée!"
6 'Where did it fal ?' the man of God asked; and he showed him the spot. Then, cutting a stick, Elisha threw it in at that point and made the iron axehead float.	6 Mais l'homme de Dieu lui demanda: "Où est-elle tombée?" Et l'autre lui montra la place. Alors ilcassa un bout de bois, le jeta à cet endroit et fit flotter le fer.
7 'Lift it out,' he said; and the man stretched out his hand and took it.	7 Il dit: "Retire-le", et l'homme étendit la main et le prit.
8 The king of Aram was at war with Israel. He conferred with his officers and said, 'You must attack atsuch and such a place.'	8 Le roi d'Aram était en guerre avec Israël. Il tint conseil avec ses officiers et dit: "Vous ferez unedescente contre telle place."
9 Elisha, however, sent word to the king of Israel, 'Be on your guard about such and such a place,because the Aramaeans are going to attack it.'	9 Elisée envoya dire au roi d'Israël: "Sois sur tes gardes pour cette place, car les Araméens ydescendent",
10 The king of Israel accordingly sent men to the place which Elisha had named. And he kept warning theking, and the king stayed on the alert; and this happened more than once or twice.	10 et le roi d'Israël envoya des hommes à la place qu'Elisée lui avait dite. Il l'avertissait et le roi setenait sur ses gardes, et cela pas rien qu'une ou deux fois.
11 The king of Aram grew very much disturbed over this. He summoned his officers, and said, 'Tel mewhich of you is betraying us to the king of Israel.'	11 Le coeur du roi d'Aram fut troublé par cette affaire, il convoqua ses officiers et leur demanda: "Nem'apprendrez-vous pas qui nous trahit auprès du roi d'Israël?"
12 'No one, my lord king,' one of his officers replied. 'It is Elisha, the prophet in Israel. The words you utterin your bedchamber, he reveals to the king of Israel.'	12 L'un de ses officiers répondit: "Non, Monseigneur le roi; c'est Elisée, le prophète d'Israël, qui révèleau roi d'Israël les paroles que tu prononces dans ta chambre à coucher."
13 'Go and find out where he is,' the king said, 'so that I can send people to capture him.' Word wasbrought to him, 'He is now in Dothan.'	13 Il dit: "Allez, voyez où il est, et j'enverrai le saisir." On lui fit ce rapport: "Voici qu'il est à Dotân."
14 So he sent horses and chariots there, and a large force; and these, arriving during the night,surrounded the town.	14 Alors le roi envoya là-bas des chevaux, des chars et une forte troupe, qui arrivèrent de nuit etcernèrent la ville.
15 Next day, Elisha got up early and went out; and there surrounding the town was an armed force withhorses and chariots. 'Oh, my lord,' his servant said, 'what are we to do?'	15 Le lendemain, Elisée se leva de bon matin et sortit. Et voilà qu'une troupe entourait la ville avec deschevaux et des chars! Son serviteur lui dit: "Ah! Monseigneur, comment allons-nous faire?"
16 'Do not be afraid,' he replied, 'for there are more on our side than on theirs.'	16 Mais il répondit: "N'aie pas peur, car il y en a plus avec nous qu'avec eux."
17 And Elisha prayed. 'Yahweh,' he said, 'open his eyes and make him see.' Yahweh opened theservant's eyes, and he saw the mountain covered in fiery horses and chariots surrounding Elisha.	17 Et Elisée fit cette prière: "Yahvé, daigne ouvrir ses yeux pour qu'il voie!" Yahvé ouvrit les yeux duserviteur et il vit: voilà que la montagne était couverte de chevaux et de chars de feu autour d'Elisée!
18 As the Aramaeans came down towards him, Elisha prayed to Yahweh, 'I beg you to strike these peoplesun-blind.' And, at Elisha's word, he struck them sun-blind.	18 Comme les Araméens descendaient vers lui, Elisée pria ainsi Yahvé: "Daigne frapper ces gens deberlue", et il les frappa de berlue, selon la parole d'Elisée.
19 Then Elisha said to them, 'This is not the road, nor is this the town. Follow me; I shal lead you to theman you are looking for.' But he led them to Samaria.	19 Alors Elisée leur dit: "Ce n'est pas le chemin, et ce n'est pas la ville. Suivez-moi, je vous conduiraivers l'homme que vous cherchez." Mais il les conduisit à Samarie.
20 As they entered Samaria, Elisha said, 'Yahweh, open these people's eyes, and let them see.' Yahwehopened their eyes and they saw; they were inside Samaria.	20 A leur entrée dans Samarie, Elisée dit: "Yahvé ouvre les yeux de ces gens et qu'ils voient." Yahvéouvrit leurs yeux et ils virent: voilà qu'ils étaient au milieu de Samarie!
21 When the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, 'Shal I kil them, father?'	21 Le roi d'Israël, en les voyant, dit à Elisée: "Faut-il les tuer, mon père?"
22 'Do not kil them,' he replied. 'Do you kil your own prisoners with sword and bow? Offer them food andwater, so that they can eat and drink, and then let them go back to their master.'	22 Mais il répondit: "Ne les tue pas. Ceux même que ton épée et ton arc ont fait captifs, les mets-tu àmort? Offre-leur du pain et de l'eau pour qu'ils mangent et qu'ils boivent, et qu'ils aillent chez leur maître."
23 So the king provided a great feast for them; and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them off andthey went back to their master. Aramaean raiding parties never invaded the territory of Israel again.	23 Le roi leur servit un grand festin; après qu'ils eurent mangé et bu, il les congédia et ils partirent chezleur maître. Les bandes araméennes ne revinrent plus sur le territoire d'Israël.
24 It happened after this that Ben-Hadad king of Aram, mustering his whole army, marched on and laidsiege to Samaria.	24 Il advint, après cela, que Ben-Hadad, roi d'Aram, rassembla toute son armée et vint mettre le siègedevant Samarie.
25 In Samaria there was great famine, and so strict was the siege that the head of a donkey sold foreighty shekels of silver, and one quarter-kab of wild onions for five shekels of silver.	25 Il y eut une grande famine à Samarie et le siège fut si dur que la tête d'âne valait 80 sicles d'argent etle quarteron d'oignons sauvages cinq sicles d'argent.
26 Now as the king was passing along the city wal , a woman shouted, 'Help, my lord king!'	26 Comme le roi passait sur le rempart, une femme lui cria: "Au secours, Monseigneur le roi!"
27 'If Yahweh does not help you,' he retorted, 'where can I find help for you? From the threshing-floor?From the winepress?'	27 Il répondit: "Si Yahvé ne te secourt pas, d'où pourrais-je te secourir? Serait-ce de l'aire ou dupressoir?"
28 Then the king asked, 'What is the matter?' 'This woman here', she answered, 'said to me, "Give upyour son; we will eat him today, and eat my son tomorrow."	28 Puis le roi lui dit: "Qu'as-tu?" Elle reprit: "Cette femme m'a dit: Donne ton fils, que nous lemangions aujourd'hui, et nous mangerons mon fils demain.
29 So we cooked my son and ate him. Next day, I said to her, "Give up your son for us to eat." But shehas hidden her son.'	29 Nous avons fait cuire mon fils et nous l'avons mangé; le jour d'après, je lui ai dit: Donne ton fils,que nous le mangions, mais elle a caché son fils."
30 On hearing the woman's words, the king tore his clothes; the king was walking on the wal , and thepeople saw that underneath he was wearing sackcloth next his body.	30 Quand le roi entendit les paroles de cette femme, il déchira ses vêtements; le roi passait sur lerempart, et le peuple vit qu'en dessous, il portait le sac à même le corps.
31 'May God bring unnameable ills on me, and worse il s, too,' he said, 'if the head of Elisha son ofShaphat remains on his shoulders today!'	31 Il dit: "Que Dieu me fasse tel mal et y ajoute tel autre, si la tête d'Elisée fils de Shaphat lui resteaujourd'hui sur les épaules!"
32 Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. The king sent a messenger aheadbut, before the man arrived, Elisha had said to the elders, 'Do you see how this son of a murderer has givenorders to cut off my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door; hold the door against him. Isn't thatthe sound of his master's step behind him?'	32 Elisée était assis dans sa maison et les anciens étaient assis avec lui, et le roi se fit précéder par unmessager. Mais avant que celui-ci n'arrivât jusqu'à lui, Elisée dit aux anciens: "Avez-vous vu que ce filsd'assassin a donné l'ordre qu'on m'ôte la tête! Voyez: quand arrivera le messager, fermez la porte et repoussez-leavec la porte. Est-ce que le bruit des pas de son maître ne le suit point?"
33 He was stil actually speaking, when the king arrived and said, 'This misery plainly comes fromYahweh. Why should I stil trust in Yahweh?'	33 Il leur parlait encore que le roi descendit chez lui et dit: "Voici que tout ce mal vient de Yahvé!Pourquoi garderais-je confiance en Yahvé?"
