NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Matos Soares
1 In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash became king ofJudah.	1 No segundo ano de Joás, filho de Joacaz, rei de Israel, reinou Amasias, filho de Joás, rei de Judá.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-nine years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.	2 Tinha vinte e cinco anos quando começou a reinar. Reinou vinte e nove anos em Jerusalém. Sua mãe chamava-se Joadan, de Jerusalém.
3 He did what Yahweh regards as right, though not like his ancestor David; he imitated his father Joashin all respects.	3 Ele fez o que era justo diante do Senhor, mas não como Davide, seu pai. Procedeu em tudo como seu pai Joás tinha procedido.
4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.	4 Apenas não desapareceram os lugares altos: ainda o povo imolava e queimava incenso nos lugares altos,
5 Once the kingdom was firmly under his control, he kil ed those of his retainers who had murdered theking his father.	5 Logo que teve o reino seguro, mandou matar os seus servos, que tinham morto o rei, seu pai,
6 But he did not put the murderers' sons to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book ofMoses, where Yahweh has commanded: 'Parents may not be put to death for their children, nor children forparents, but each must be put to death for his own crime.'	6 mas não matou os filhos destes assassinos, segundo o que está escrito no livro da lei de Moisés, conforme o preceito do Senhor, que diz: Não morrerão os pais pelos filhos, nem os filhos morrerão pelos pais: cada um morrerá pelo seu próprio pecado.
7 It was he who slaughtered the Edomites in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand of them, and captured theRock; he gave it the name Joktheel, which it bears to the present day.	7 Derrotou dez mil Idumeus no vale das Salinas, e tomou na batalha (a cidade) de Sela, à qual pôs o nome de Jecteel, nome que ainda hoje conserva.
8 Amaziah then sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, saying, 'Come and make atrial of strength!'	8 Então Amasias enviou mensageiros a Joás, filho de Joacaz, filho de Jeú, rei de Israel, dizendo: Vem e vejamo-nos.
9 Jehoash king of Israel sent back word to Amaziah king of Judah, 'The thistle of Lebanon sent amessage to the cedar of Lebanon, saying, "Give my son your daughter in marriage"; but a wild animal of theLebanon ran over the thistle and squashed it.	9 Joás, rei de Israel, mandou a Amasias, rei de Judá, esta resposta: O cardo do Líbano mandou dizer ao cedro, que está no Líbano: Dá tua filha por mulher a meu filho. Mas passaram as feras do bosque, que habitam no Líbano, e pisaram aos pés o cardo.
10 You have conquered Edom and now aspire to even greater glory. Stay where you belong! Whyprovoke disaster, to your own and Judah's ruin?'	10 Tu venceste e derrotaste os Idumeus; por isso o teu coração se ensoberbeceu; contenta-te com essa glória, e repousa em tua casa. Por que preparas a tua ruína, de forma que venhas a perecer, e Judá contigo?
11 But Amaziah would not listen, so Jehoash king of Israel marched to the attack. And at Beth-Shemesh,which belongs to Judah, he and Amaziah king of Judah made their trial of strength.	11 Porém, Amasias não sossegou, e Joás, rei de Israel, saiu à campanha. Encontraram-se, ele e Amasias, rei de Judá, em Betsames, cidade de Judá.
12 Judah was defeated by Israel, and everyone fled to his tent.	12 Judá foi derrotado por Israel, tendo de fugir cada um para as suas tendas.
13 The king of Judah, Amaziah son of Jehoash, son of Ahaziah, was taken prisoner at Beth-Shemesh byJehoash king of Israel who led him off to Jerusalem, where he demolished four hundred cubits of the city wallbetween the Ephraim Gate and the Corner Gate;	13 Joás, rei de Israel, tomou em Betsames Amasias, rei de Judá, filho de Joás, filho de Ocozias. Foi a Jerusalém e abriu uma brecha no muro de Jerusalém, com o comprimento de quatrocentos côvados, desde a porta de Efraim até à porta da esquina.
14 al the gold and silver, and al the vessels to be found in the Temple of Yahweh and in the palacetreasury, and hostages besides, he then took back with him to Samaria.	14 (Além disso) tomou todo o ouro e prata, e todos os vasos, que foram encontrados na casa do Senhor e nos tesouros do rei, levou reféns, e voltou para Samaria.
15 The rest of the history of Jehoash, his entire career, his prowess, how he waged war on Amaziah kingof Judah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	15 Quanto ao resto das acções de Joás, ao valor com que pelejou contra Amasias, rei de Judá, não está tudo isto escrito no livro das Crônicas dos reis de Israel?
16 Then Joash fel asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; his sonJeroboam succeeded him.	16 Joás adormeceu com seus pais, e foi sepultado em Samaria com os reis de Israel. Em seu lugar reinou seu filho Jeroboão.
17 Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son ofJehoahaz, king of Israel.	17 Amasias, filho de Joás, rei de Judá, ainda viveu quinze anos depois da morte de Joás, filho de Joacaz, rei de Israel.
18 The rest of the history of Amaziah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings ofJudah?	18 Quanto no resto das acções de Amasias, não está tudo escrito no livro das Crônicas dos reis de Judá?
19 A plot having been hatched against him in Jerusalem, he fled to Lachish; but he was fol owed toLachish where he was murdered.	19 Foi urdida contra ele em Jerusalém uma conjuração, mas ele fugiu para Laquis. Eles perseguiram-no até Laquis, e ali o mataram.
20 He was then transported by horse and buried in Jerusalem with his ancestors in the City of David.	20 Transportaram-no em cima duns cavalos, e foi sepultado em Jerusalém com seus pais, na cidade de Davide.
21 Al the people of Judah then chose Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king insuccession to his father Amaziah.	21 Então todo o povo de Judá tomou Azarias, que tinha a idade de dezasseis anos, e constituiu-o rei, em lugar de seu pai Amasias.
22 It was he who rebuilt Elath, recovering it for Judah, after the king had fallen asleep with his ancestors.	22 Ele reedificou Elat e restituiu-a a Judá, depois que o rei adormeceu com seus pais.
23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Joash became king ofIsrael in Samaria. He reigned for forty-one years.	23 No décimo quinto ano de Amasias, filho de Joás, rei de Judá, reinou em Samaria Jeroboão, filho de Joás, rei de Israel, durante quarenta e um anos.
24 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh and did not give up any of the sins into which Jeroboam son ofNebat had led Israel.	24 Fez o mal diante do Senhor: não se apartou de nenhum pecado de Jeroboão, filho de Nabat, que tinha feito pecar Israel.
25 It was he who recovered the territory of Israel from the Pass of Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, inaccordance with the word which Yahweh, God of Israel, had spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai,the prophet from Gath-Hepher.	25 Restabeleceu os limites de Israel, (reconquistando) desde a entrada de Emat até ao luar do deserto, conforme a palavra do Senhor Deus de Israel, pronunciada por seu servo o profeta Jonas, filho de Amati, que era natural de Get, (cidade) que está em Ofer.
26 For Yahweh had seen how very bitter the affliction of Israel was, with no one, either fettered or free, tocome to Israel's help.	26 O Senhor viu a amargosíssima aflição de Israel, que a todos tinha consumido, escravos ou livres, de modo que não havia quem socorresse Israel.
27 But Yahweh had resolved not to blot out the name of Israel under heaven; he rescued them by meansof Jeroboam son of Joash.	27 Nem o Senhor tinha decretado que apagaria o nome de Israel de sob o céu.
28 The rest of the history of Jeroboam, his entire career, his prowess, what wars he waged, how hebrought Damascus and Hamath back to their allegiance to Judah and Israel, is this not recorded in the Book ofthe Annals of the Kings of Israel?	28 Quanto ao resto da história de Jeroboão, às suas acções e empreendimentos guerreiros, à forma como reconquistou para Israel (as cidades de) Damasco e Emat (que tinham sido) de Judá, não está tudo isto escrito no livro das Crônicas dos reis de Israel?
29 Then Jeroboam fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; hisson Zechariah succeeded him.	29 Jeroboão adormeceu com seus pais, reis de Israel. Zacarias, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.
