NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash became king ofJudah.	1 L’ANNO secondo di Gioas, figliuolo di Gioachaz, re d’Israele, Amasia, figliuolo di Gioas, re di Giuda, cominciò a regnare.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-nine years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.	2 Egli era d’età di venticinque anni, quando cominciò a regnare, a regnò ventinove anni in Gerusalemme. E il nome di sua madre era Gioaddan, da Gerusalemme.
3 He did what Yahweh regards as right, though not like his ancestor David; he imitated his father Joashin all respects.	3 Egli fece ciò che piace al Signore; non però come Davide, suo padre; egli fece interamente come avea fatto Gioas, suo padre.
4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.	4 Sol gli alti luoghi non furono tolti; il popolo sacrificava ancora, e faceva profumi in su gli alti luoghi.
5 Once the kingdom was firmly under his control, he kil ed those of his retainers who had murdered theking his father.	5 Ora, come il regno fu stabilito nelle sue mani, egli percosse i suoi servitori, che aveano ucciso il re suo padre.
6 But he did not put the murderers' sons to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book ofMoses, where Yahweh has commanded: 'Parents may not be put to death for their children, nor children forparents, but each must be put to death for his own crime.'	6 Ma non fece morire i figliuoli loro, secondo ch’è scritto nel libro della Legge di Mosè, nella quale il Signore ha comandato che non si facciano morire i padri per li figliuoli, nè i figliuoli per li padri; anzi, che ciascuno sia fatto morire per lo suo proprio peccato.
7 It was he who slaughtered the Edomites in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand of them, and captured theRock; he gave it the name Joktheel, which it bears to the present day.	7 Egli percosse gl’Idumei nella valle del sale, in numero di dodicimila uomini; e prese Sela per forza d’arme, e le pose nome Iocteel, il qual le dura infino ad oggi
8 Amaziah then sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, saying, 'Come and make atrial of strength!'	8 Allora Amasia mandò messi a Gioas, figliuolo di Gioachaz, figliuolo di Iehu, re d’Israele, a dirgli: Vieni, veggiamoci in faccia l’un l’altro.
9 Jehoash king of Israel sent back word to Amaziah king of Judah, 'The thistle of Lebanon sent amessage to the cedar of Lebanon, saying, "Give my son your daughter in marriage"; but a wild animal of theLebanon ran over the thistle and squashed it.	9 Ma Gioas, re d’Israele, mandò a dire ad Amasia, re di Giuda: Uno spino ch’era nel Libano, mandò già a dire al cedro del Libano: Da’ la tua figliuola per moglie al mio figliuolo; ma le fiere del Libano, passando, calpestarono quello spino.
10 You have conquered Edom and now aspire to even greater glory. Stay where you belong! Whyprovoke disaster, to your own and Judah's ruin?'	10 Tu hai gravemente percossi gl’Idumei, e perciò il tuo cuore ti fa innalzare; godi della tua gloria, e stattene in casa tua; perchè ti rimescoleresti in un male, per lo quale tu, e Giuda teco, cadereste?
11 But Amaziah would not listen, so Jehoash king of Israel marched to the attack. And at Beth-Shemesh,which belongs to Judah, he and Amaziah king of Judah made their trial of strength.	11 Ma Amasia non gli diè d’orecchio. Gioas adunque, re d’Israele, salì contro ad Amasia, re di Giuda; ed essi si videro l’un l’altro in faccia in Bet-semes, città di Giuda.
12 Judah was defeated by Israel, and everyone fled to his tent.	12 E Giuda fu sconfitto da Israele; e ciascuno se ne fuggì alle sue stanze.
13 The king of Judah, Amaziah son of Jehoash, son of Ahaziah, was taken prisoner at Beth-Shemesh byJehoash king of Israel who led him off to Jerusalem, where he demolished four hundred cubits of the city wallbetween the Ephraim Gate and the Corner Gate;	13 E Gioas, re d’Israele, prese in Bet-semes Amasia, re di Giuda, figliuolo di Gioas, figliuolo di Achazia; poi venne in Gerusalemme, e fece una rottura nel muro di Gerusalemme, dalla porta di Efraim, infino alla porta del Cantone, lo spazio di quattrocento cubiti.
14 al the gold and silver, and al the vessels to be found in the Temple of Yahweh and in the palacetreasury, and hostages besides, he then took back with him to Samaria.	14 E prese tutto l’oro e l’argento, e tutti i vasellamenti che si trovarono nella Casa del Signore, e nei tesori della casa del re; prese eziandio stadichi; poi se ne ritornò in Samaria
15 The rest of the history of Jehoash, his entire career, his prowess, how he waged war on Amaziah kingof Judah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	15 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Gioas, e la sua prodezza, e come egli combattè con Amasia, re di Giuda; queste cose non sono esse scritte nel libro delle Croniche dei re d’Israele?
16 Then Joash fel asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; his sonJeroboam succeeded him.	16 E Gioas giacque co’ suoi padri, e fu seppellito in Samaria, coi re d’Israele, e Geroboamo, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.
17 Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son ofJehoahaz, king of Israel.	17 Ed Amasia, figliuolo di Gioas, re di Giuda, visse ancora quindici anni, dopo la morte di Gioas, figliuolo di Gioachaz, re d’Israele.
18 The rest of the history of Amaziah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings ofJudah?	18 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Amasia; queste cose non sono esse scritte nel libro delle Croniche dei re di Giuda?
19 A plot having been hatched against him in Jerusalem, he fled to Lachish; but he was fol owed toLachish where he was murdered.	19 Or alcuni fecero una congiura contro a lui, in Gerusalemme; ed egli fuggì in Lachis; ma essi gli mandarono dietro in Lachis, e l’uccisero quivi.

23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Joash became king ofIsrael in Samaria. 24 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh and did not give up any of the sins into which Jeroboam son ofNebat had led Israel.	24 E fece quello che dispiace al Signore; egli non si rivolse da alcuno de’ peccati di Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat, coi quali egli avea fatto peccare Israele.
25 It was he who recovered the territory of Israel from the Pass of Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, inaccordance with the word which Yahweh, God of Israel, had spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai,the prophet from Gath-Hepher.	25 Costui ristabilì i confini d’Israele dall’entrata di Hamat, fino al mare della campagna; secondo la parola del Signore Iddio d’Israele, ch’egli avea pronunziata per lo profeta Giona, suo servitore, figliuolo di Amittai, il quale era da Gat-hefer.
26 For Yahweh had seen how very bitter the affliction of Israel was, with no one, either fettered or free, tocome to Israel's help.	26 Perciocchè il Signore vide l’afflizione d’Israele ch’era molto aspra, e che non vi era più nè serrato nè abbandonato, nè chi soccorresse Israele.
27 But Yahweh had resolved not to blot out the name of Israel under heaven; he rescued them by meansof Jeroboam son of Joash.	27 E il Signore non avea ancora parlato di cancellare il nome d’Israele disotto al cielo; e però egli li salvò per man di Geroboamo, figliuolo di Gioas.
28 The rest of the history of Jeroboam, his entire career, his prowess, what wars he waged, how hebrought Damascus and Hamath back to their allegiance to Judah and Israel, is this not recorded in the Book ofthe Annals of the Kings of Israel?	28 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Geroboamo, e tutto quello ch’egli fece, e la sua prodezza, con la quale guerreggiò, e con la quale racquistò ad Israele Damasco ed Hamat, ch’erano state di Giuda; queste cose non sono esse scritte nel libro delle Croniche dei re d’Israele?
29 Then Jeroboam fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; hisson Zechariah succeeded him.	29 E Geroboamo giacque co’ suoi padri, cioè coi re d’Israele; e Zaccaria, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo
