2 Kings 14

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash became king ofJudah.	1 Il secondo anno di Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, re d'Israele, divenne re di Giuda Amazia, figlio di Ioas.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-nine years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.	2 Al suo avvento al trono egli aveva venticinque anni e regnò ventinove anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Ioaddain, da Gerusalemme.
3 He did what Yahweh regards as right, though not like his ancestor David; he imitated his father Joashin all respects.	3 Egli fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore; però non come Davide suo padre. Imitò in tutto suo padre Ioas.
4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.	4 Tuttavia le alture non furono rimosse, di modo che il popolo continuava ad offrire sacrifici e a bruciare aromi sulle alture.

6 But he did not put the murderers' sons to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book ofMoses, where Yahweh has commanded: 'Parents may not be put to death for their children, nor children forparents, but each must be put to death for his own crime.'	6 Però non uccise i figli degli uccisori, secondo ciò che è scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè, in cui il Signore ha ordinato così: "Non siano fatti morire i padri per i figli né i figli per i padri; bensì ciascuno deve morire per la sua colpa".
7 It was he who slaughtered the Edomites in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand of them, and captured theRock; he gave it the name Joktheel, which it bears to the present day.	7 Egli batté Edom nella valle del Sale, in tutto diecimila uomini, ed espugnò in combattimento Sela, a cui diede il nome Iokteèl, che perdura fino ad oggi.
8 Amaziah then sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, saying, 'Come and make atrial of strength!'	8 Allora Amazia inviò messaggeri a Ioas, figlio di Ieu, re d'Israele, a dirgli: "Vieni e misuriamoci faccia a faccia".
9 Jehoash king of Israel sent back word to Amaziah king of Judah, 'The thistle of Lebanon sent amessage to the cedar of Lebanon, saying, "Give my son your daughter in marriage"; but a wild animal of theLebanon ran over the thistle and squashed it.	9 Ioas, re d'Israele, mandò a dire ad Amazia, re di Giuda: "Il cardo del Libano mandò a dire al cedro del Libano: "Concedi tua figlia in sposa a mio figlio". Ma passarono le bestie selvagge del Libano e calpestarono il cardo.
10 You have conquered Edom and now aspire to even greater glory. Stay where you belong! Whyprovoke disaster, to your own and Judah's ruin?'	10 Tu hai duramente battuto Edom e il tuo cuore si è inorgoglito. Goditi la tua gloria, ma rimani a casa tua! Perché vorresti provocare una sciagura e cadere trascinando Giuda con te?".
11 But Amaziah would not listen, so Jehoash king of Israel marched to the attack. And at Beth-Shemesh,which belongs to Judah, he and Amaziah king of Judah made their trial of strength.	11 Amazia però non prestò ascolto e allora Ioas, re d'Israele, salì ed egli e il re di Giuda si misurarono faccia a faccia a Bet-Semes che si trova in Giuda.
12 Judah was defeated by Israel, and everyone fled to his tent.	12 Giuda ebbe la peggio di fronte a Israele e ognuno fuggì alla propria tenda.
13 The king of Judah, Amaziah son of Jehoash, son of Ahaziah, was taken prisoner at Beth-Shemesh byJehoash king of Israel who led him off to Jerusalem, where he demolished four hundred cubits of the city wallbetween the Ephraim Gate and the Corner Gate;	13 A Bet-Semes Ioas, re d'Israele, catturò Amazia, re di Giuda, figlio di Ioas, figlio di Acazia; poi giunse a Gerusalemme e fece una breccia nelle mura di Gerusalemme dalla porta di Efraim alla porta dell'Angolo, per la lunghezza di quattrocento cubiti.
14 al the gold and silver, and al the vessels to be found in the Temple of Yahweh and in the palacetreasury, and hostages besides, he then took back with him to Samaria.	14 Prese anche tutto l'oro e l'argento e tutti gli oggetti che si trovavano nel tempio del Signore e nei tesori del palazzo reale, in più ostaggi, e se ne ritornò a Samaria.
15 The rest of the history of Jehoash, his entire career, his prowess, how he waged war on Amaziah kingof Judah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	15 Le altre gesta di Ioas e il suo coraggio con cui ha combattuto Amazia, re di Giuda, non sono forse descritti nel libro degli Annali dei re d'Israele?
16 Then Joash fel asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; his sonJeroboam succeeded him.	16 Ioas s'addormentò con i suoi antenati e fu sepolto in Samaria assieme ai re d'Israele. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Geroboamo.
17 Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son ofJehoahaz, king of Israel.	17 Amazia, figlio di Ioas, re di Giuda, visse ancora quindici anni dopo la morte di Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, re d'Israele.
18 The rest of the history of Amaziah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings ofJudah?	18 Le altre gesta di Amazia non sono forse descritte nel libro degli Annali dei re di Giuda?
19 A plot having been hatched against him in Jerusalem, he fled to Lachish; but he was fol owed toLachish where he was murdered.	19 Fu ordita una congiura contro di lui in Gerusalemme ed egli fuggì a Lachis; ma lo inseguirono fino a Lachis dove lo uccisero.

23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Joash became king ofIsrael in Samaria. 24 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh and did not give up any of the sins into which Jeroboam son ofNebat had led Israel.	24 Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore né si staccò da tutti i peccati che Geroboamo aveva fatto commettere a Israele.
25 It was he who recovered the territory of Israel from the Pass of Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, inaccordance with the word which Yahweh, God of Israel, had spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai,the prophet from Gath-Hepher.	25 Ristabilì il confine d'Israele dall'ingresso di Camat fino al mare dell'Araba secondo la parola che il Signore, Dio d'Israele, aveva detto mediante il suo servo Giona, figlio di Amittai, il profeta di Gat-Chefer.
26 For Yahweh had seen how very bitter the affliction of Israel was, with no one, either fettered or free, tocome to Israel's help.	26 Il Signore infatti aveva visto che l'afflizione d'Israele era molto amara: non c'era più né schiavo né libero né chi venisse in soccorso d'Israele.
27 But Yahweh had resolved not to blot out the name of Israel under heaven; he rescued them by meansof Jeroboam son of Joash.	27 Tuttavia il Signore non aveva deciso di cancellare il nome d'Israele di sotto il cielo; perciò li salvò mediante Geroboamo, figlio di Ioas.
28 The rest of the history of Jeroboam, his entire career, his prowess, what wars he waged, how hebrought Damascus and Hamath back to their allegiance to Judah and Israel, is this not recorded in the Book ofthe Annals of the Kings of Israel?	28 Le altre gesta di Geroboamo, tutte le sue azioni e il suo coraggio con cui ha combattuto Damasco e stornata da Israele l'ira del Signore, non sono forse descritti nel libro degli Annali dei re d'Israele?
29 Then Jeroboam fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; hisson Zechariah succeeded him.	29 Geroboamo s'addormentò con i suoi antenati e fu sepolto in Samaria con i re d'Israele. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Zaccaria.
