NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king ofIsrael in Samaria. He reigned for seventeen years.	1 L’ANNO ventesimoterzo di Gioas, figliuolo di Achazia, re di Giuda, Gioachaz, figliuolo di Iehu, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele, in Samaria; e regnò diciassette anni.
2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh and copied the sin into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had ledIsrael; he did not give it up.	2 E fece quello che dispiace al Signore, e seguitò i peccati di Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat, co’ quali egli avea fatto peccare Israele; egli non se ne rivolse.
3 This aroused Yahweh's anger against the Israelites, and he delivered them without respite into thepower of Hazael king of Aram and of Ben-Hadad son of Hazael.	3 Laonde l’ira del Signore si accese contro ad Israele; ed egli li diede nelle mani di Hazael, re di Siria, e nelle mani di Ben-hadad, figliuolo di Hazael, tutto quel tempo.
4 Jehoahaz, however, tried to placate Yahweh, and Yahweh heard him, for he had seen the oppressionwhich the king of Aram was inflicting on Israel.	4 Ma Gioachaz pregò il Signore; e il Signore l’esaudì; perciocchè egli vide l’oppressione d’Israele; conciossiachè il re di Siria li oppressasse.
5 Yahweh gave Israel a saviour who freed them from the grip of Aram, and the Israelites lived in theirtents as in the past.	5 Il Signore adunque diede un liberatore ad Israele; ed essi uscirono di sotto alla mano de’ Siri; ed i figliuoli d’Israele abitarono nelle loro stanze, come per addietro.
6 But they did not give up the sin into which Jeroboam had led Israel; they persisted in it, and even thesacred pole stayed standing in Samaria.	6 Ma pur non si rivolsero dai peccati della casa di Geroboamo, coi quali egli avea fatto peccare Israele; Israele camminava in essi; il bosco eziandio rimase in piè in Samaria.
7 Of Jehoahaz's army Yahweh left only fifty horsemen, ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers. Theking of Aram had destroyed them, making them like dust trampled under foot.	7 Dopo che il Signore non ebbe lasciata di resto a Gioachaz altra gente, che cinquanta cavalieri, e dieci carri, e diecimila pedoni; conciossiachè il re di Siria avesse distrutti gl’Israeliti, e tritandoli, li avesse ridotti ad essere come polvere.
8 The rest of the history of Jehoahaz, his entire career, his prowess, is this not recorded in the Book ofthe Annals of the Kings of Israel?	8 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Gioachaz, e tutto quello ch’egli fece, e la sua prodezza; queste cose non son esse scritte nel libro delle Croniche dei re d’Israele?
9 Then Jehoahaz fel asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in Samaria; his son Joash succeededhim.	9 E Gioachaz giacque coi suoi padri, e fu seppellito in Samaria; e Gioas, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, became king of Israel inSamaria. He reigned for sixteen years.	10 L’anno trentesimosettimo di Gioas, re di Giuda, Gioas, figliuolo di Gioachaz, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele, in Samaria; e regnò sedici anni.
11 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, he did not give up the sin into which Jeroboam son of Nebathad led Israel; he persisted in it.	11 E fece quello che dispiace al Signore; egli non si rivolse da alcuno de’ peccati di Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat, coi quali egli avea fatto peccare Israele; egli camminò in essi.
12 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, his prowess, how he waged war on Amaziah king ofJudah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	12 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Gioas, e tutto quello ch’egli fece, e la sua prodezza, con la quale egli combattè contro ad Amasia, re di Giuda; queste cose non son esse scritte nel libro delle Croniche dei re d’Israele?
13 Then Joash fel asleep with his ancestors, and Jeroboam ascended his throne. Joash was buried inSamaria with the kings of Israel.	13 E Gioas giacque co’ suoi padri, e Geroboamo sedette sopra il suo trono; e Gioas fu seppellito in Samaria coi re d’Israele.
14 When Elisha had fal en il of the il ness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to himand shedding tears over him said, 'Father! Father! Chariot of Israel and its chargers!'	14 OR Eliseo infermò d’una sua infermità, della quale eziandio egli morì. E Gioas, re d’Israele, scese, e pianse sopra la faccia di esso, e disse: Padre mio, padre mio, carro d’Israele, e sua cavalleria.
15 Elisha said to him, 'Bring bow and arrows,' and he sent for a bow and arrows.	15 Ed Eliseo gli disse: Portami un arco e delle saette. E Gioas gli portò un arco e delle saette.
16 Then Elisha said to the king, 'Draw the bow,' and he drew it. Elisha put his hands over the hands ofthe king,	16 Ed Eliseo gli disse: Impugna l’arco con la mano. Ed egli impugnò l’arco; ed Eliseo mise le mani sopra le mani del re, e disse:
17 then he said, 'Open the window towards the east,' and he opened it. Then Elisha said, 'Shoot!' And heshot. Elisha said, 'Arrow of victory over Aram! You wil defeat Aram at Aphek-completely.'	17 Apri la finestra verso Oriente. E quando egli l’ebbe aperta, Eliseo gli disse: Tira. Ed egli tirò. Ed Eliseo disse: Questa è la saetta della vittoria del Signore; la saetta della vittoria contro a’ Siri; e tu percoterai i Siri in Afec, fino ad una intiera sconfitta.
18 Elisha said, 'Take the arrows,' and he took them. Then he said to the king, 'Strike the ground,' and hestruck it three times, then stopped.	18 Poi disse: Prendi le saette. E quando le ebbe prese, egli disse al re d’Israele: Percuoti contro alla terra. Ed egli percosse tre volte; poi si arrestò.
19 At this the man of God grew angry with him. 'You should have struck half a dozen times,' he said, 'andyou would have beaten Aram completely; now you wil beat Aram only three times.'	19 E l’uomo di Dio si adirò gravemente contro a lui, e gli disse: Ei si conveniva percuotere cinque o sei volte; allora tu avresti percossi i Siri fino ad una intiera distruzione; ma ora, tu non percoterai i Siri se non tre volte
20 Elisha died and was buried. Bands of Moabites were making incursions into the country every year.	20 Ora Eliseo morì, e fu seppellito. Ed in su la fine dell’anno certe schiere di Moabiti fecero una correria nel paese.
21 Some people happened to be carrying a man out for burial; at the sight of one of these bands, theyflung the man into the tomb of Elisha and made off. The man had no sooner touched the bones of Elisha than hecame to life and stood up on his feet.	21 Ed avvenne che, come certi seppellivano un uomo, ecco, videro quelle schiere; e gittarono colui nella sepoltura di Eliseo; e colui andò a toccar l’ossa di Eliseo, e tornò in vita, e si rizzò in piè.
22 Hazael king of Aram had oppressed the Israelites throughout the lifetime of Jehoahaz,	22 Avendo adunque Hazael, re di Siria, oppressati gl’Israeliti tutto il tempo di Gioachaz,
23 but Yahweh was kind and took pity on them. Because of the covenant which he had made withAbraham, Isaac and Jacob, he relented towards them; he had no wish to destroy them, he did not cast them outof his presence.	23 il Signore fece loro grazia, ed ebbe pietà di loro, e si rivolse verso loro, per amor del suo patto con Abrahamo, Isacco e Giacobbe; e non volle distruggerli, e non li scacciò dal suo cospetto fino a questo tempo.
24 Hazael king of Aram died, and his son Ben-Hadad succeeded him.	24 Ed Hazael, re di Siria, morì; e Ben-hadad, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.
25 From Ben-Hadad son of Hazael, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured the towns which Hazael hadseized from his father Jehoahaz by force of arms. Joash defeated him three times and recovered the Israelitetowns.	25 E Gioas, figliuolo di Gioachaz, riprese di mano di Ben-hadad, figliuolo di Hazael, le città che Hazael avea prese a Gioachaz, suo padre, in guerra.
