1 When Athaliah mother of Ahaziah learned that her son was dead, she promptly murdered al those ofroyal stock.	1 - Atalia, madre di Ocozia, vedendo che il figliuol suo era morto, si levò e fece morire tutti i discendenti del re.
2 But Jehosheba, daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, surreptitiously rescued Jehoash sonof Ahaziah from among the princes who were to be murdered, and put him with his nurse in the sleepingquarters; in this way she hid him from Athaliah, and he was not killed.	2 Ma Josaba, figlia del re Joram, sorella di Ocozia, preso Joas, figlio di Ocozia, lo trafugò dal mezzo dei figli del re, mentre erano messi a morte e lo pose colla sua nutrice in una stanza e lo nascose ad Atalia, perchè non fosse ucciso.
3 He stayed, hidden with her in the Temple of Yahweh for six years, while Athaliah governed the country.	3 Restò con essa nascosto per sei anni nella casa del Signore. Frattanto Atalia regnava nel paese.
4 In the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the regimental commanders of the Carians and the guards, andhad them brought to him in the Temple of Yahweh. He made a pact with them, put them on oath, then showedthem the king's son. He gave them this order,	4 Nell'anno settimo però Joiada mandò a cercare i centurioni e i soldati e li introdusse nel tempio del Signore; fece con essi alleanza e li fece giurare nella casa del Signore, mostrando ad essi il figlio del re,
5 'This is what you must do: a third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath must mount guard at theroyal palace,	5 e comandò loro, dicendo: «Ecco ciò che voi dovete fare.
6 ,	6 Una terza parte di voi entri in giorno di sabato per montare la guardia alla casa del re; una terza parte stia alla porta di Sur e una terza parte alla porta che è dietro all'abitazione delle guardie; e voi farete la guardia alla casa di Messa.
7 and your two other sections who come off duty on the Sabbath and mount guard at the Temple ofYahweh	7 Due parti poi di voi, tutti quelli che al sabato lasciano il servizio, staranno di guardia alla casa del Signore intorno al re;
8 must surround the king, each man with his weapons in his hand; anyone forcing his way through theranks is to be kil ed. And you wil escort the king as he leaves and as he comes in.'	8 e lo circonderete colle armi alla mano. Che se alcuno entrerà nel recinto del tempio, lo ucciderete; e starete sempre col re sia che entri, sia che esca».
9 The regimental commanders did everything as Jehoiada the priest had ordered, and each one broughthis men, those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty on the Sabbath, and reported toJehoiada the priest.	9 I centurioni fecero quanto era stato loro prescritto dal sacerdote Joiada, e prendendo ognuno i suoi uomini e quelli che lasciavano il servizio il giorno di sabato, e quelli che lo assumevano, vennero dal sacerdote Joiada,
10 The priest then issued the regimental commanders with King David's spears and shields, which werekept in the Temple of Yahweh.	10 che diede ad essi le lance e le armi del re Davide, che erano nella casa del Signore
11 The guards then took position, each man with his weapons in his hand, from the south corner of theTemple to the north corner of the Temple, al round the altar and the Temple.	11 e ciascuno colle armi alla mano si pose dalla parte destra del tempio, fino alla parte sinistra dell'altare e del tempio intorno al re.
12 Then Jehoiada brought the king's son out -- crowned him and gave him a copy of the covenant; andthey made him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and shouted, 'Long live the king!'	12 Il sacerdote condusse fuori il figlio del re, gli pose in capo il diadema e la legge; lo proclamarono e lo unsero re; e tutti fra i battimani, esclamarono: «Viva il re!».
13 On hearing the people shouting, Athaliah joined the people in the Temple of Yahweh.	13 Atalia, intesa la voce del popolo, che accorreva, si portò fra la moltitudine, che era nel tempio del Signore,
14 When she looked, there stood the king on a dais, as the custom was, with the officers and trumpetersat the king's side, and all the people of the country rejoicing and blowing the trumpets; then Athaliah tore herclothes and shouted, 'Treason, treason!'	14 e avendo veduto il re, che stava sopra un trono, secondo l'uso, e a lui vicini i cantori, i sonatori di tromba e tutto il popolo, che faceva festa e sonava le trombe, si stracciò le vesti e gridò: «Congiura, congiura!».
15 Jehoiada the priest then gave the orders to the commanders in charge of the troops, 'Take her outunder guard and put to death anyone who follows her.' 'For', the priest had already said, 'she must not be killedinside the Temple of Yahweh.'	15 Joiada allora diede ai centurioni, che comandavano l'armata, questo ordine: «Conducetela fuori del recinto del tempio e se alcuno la segue, uccidetelo». Il sacerdote infatti avea detto: «Non si uccida nel tempio del Signore».
16 They seized her, and when she reached the horses' entry to the palace, she was kil ed there.	16 Le misero quindi addosso le mani e la spinsero verso la via della porta dei cavalli, accanto alla reggia e colà fu uccisa.
17 Jehoiada made a covenant between Yahweh, the king and the people that they would remainYahweh's people; and another one between the king and the people.	17 Joiada stabilì adunque l'alleanza tra il Signore, il re e il popolo, perchè il popolo fosse del Signore; e [stabilì ancora l'alleanza] tra il re e il popolo.
18 Al the people of the country then went to the temple of Baal and demolished it; they smashed itsaltars and its images and kil ed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars. The priest made arrangements forthe security of the Temple of Yahweh.	18 Poi tutto il popolo del paese entrò nel tempio di Baal e ne distrusse gli altari e ne infranse le immagini, uccidendo altresì Matan, sacerdote di Baal dinanzi all'altare. Il sacerdote Joiada mise delle sentinelle nella casa del Signore;
19 He then took the regimental commanders, the Carians, the guards and al the people of the country,and they escorted the king down from the Temple of Yahweh, entering the palace through the Gate of theGuards. Jehoash took his seat on the throne of the kings.	19 poi prese i centurioni e le legioni dei Ceretei, e dei Feletei e tutto il popolo del paese e condusse il re dalla casa del Signore per la via della porta delle guardie del palazzo e lo fece sedere sul trono regale.
20 Al the people of the country were delighted; the city, however, made no move. And Athaliah was putto death inside the palace.	20 Tutto il popolo esultò; e la città fu tranquilla. Atalia poi perì di spada nella casa del re.
	21 Joas aveva sette anni quando cominciò a regnare.
