1 When Athaliah mother of Ahaziah learned that her son was dead, she promptly murdered al those ofroyal stock.	1 Ma Athalia madre di Ochozìa, veggendo morto il suo figliuolo, si levò su, e uccise tutta la stirpe reale.
2 But Jehosheba, daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, surreptitiously rescued Jehoash sonof Ahaziah from among the princes who were to be murdered, and put him with his nurse in the sleepingquarters; in this way she hid him from Athaliah, and he was not killed.	2 Ma Josaba figliuola del re Joram, sorella di Ochozia prese Gioas figliuolo di Ochozia, trafugandolo dalla camera colla sua balia, di mezzo a' figliuoli del re, che eran messi a morte; e lo tenne nascosto alle ricerche di Athalia, affinchè non fosse messo a morte.
3 He stayed, hidden with her in the Temple of Yahweh for six years, while Athaliah governed the country.	3 Ed egli stette segretamente con essa (balia) per sei anni nella casa del Signore: e Athalia regnò nel paese.
4 In the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the regimental commanders of the Carians and the guards, andhad them brought to him in the Temple of Yahweh. He made a pact with them, put them on oath, then showedthem the king's son. He gave them this order,	4 Ma l'anno settimo Joiada mandò a cercare i centurioni, e i soldati, e li fece venir a se nel tempio, del Signore, e fece lega con essi, e fatto prestar giuramento da essi nella casa del Signore, fece loro vedere il figliuolo del re:
5 'This is what you must do: a third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath must mount guard at theroyal palace,	5 E diede loro i suoi ordini, e disse: Ecco quello, che voi dovete fare:
6 ,	6 Una terza parte di voi entrando dì settimana sarà di guardia alla casa del re: un altro terzo starà alla porta di Sur; e un altro terzo alla porta, che è dietro all'appartamento delle guardie; e farete sentinella alla casa di Messa.
7 and your two other sections who come off duty on the Sabbath and mount guard at the Temple ofYahweh	7 Due parti poi di quelli tra voi, che usciranno di settimana, staranno di sentinella alla casa del Signore intorno al re.
8 must surround the king, each man with his weapons in his hand; anyone forcing his way through theranks is to be kil ed. And you wil escort the king as he leaves and as he comes in.'	8 E lo circonderete colle armi alla mano: se alcuno entrerà nel recinto del tempio, sia messo a morte: e voi starete col re sia ch'egli venga, sia ch'egli vada.
9 The regimental commanders did everything as Jehoiada the priest had ordered, and each one broughthis men, those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty on the Sabbath, and reported toJehoiada the priest.	9 E i centurioni eseguirono appuntino gli ordini di Joiada Sacerdote: e prendendo ognuno di essi la sua gente, cioè quei che entravano, e quei, che uscivano di settimana, si presentarono a Joiada Sacerdote;
10 The priest then issued the regimental commanders with King David's spears and shields, which werekept in the Temple of Yahweh.	10 Il quale diede loro le lance, e le armi del re Davidde, le quali erano nella casa del Signore.
11 The guards then took position, each man with his weapons in his hand, from the south corner of theTemple to the north corner of the Temple, al round the altar and the Temple.	11 E presero tutti posto colle armi alla mano dal lato destro del tempio sino al lato sinistro dell'altare, e del tempio intorno al re.
12 Then Jehoiada brought the king's son out -- crowned him and gave him a copy of the covenant; andthey made him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and shouted, 'Long live the king!'	12 E (Joiada) menò fuori il figliuolo del re, e gli pose in testa il diadema, e la legge: e lo fecero re, e lo unsero; e battendo palma a palma, dissero: Viva il re.
13 On hearing the people shouting, Athaliah joined the people in the Temple of Yahweh.	13 Or Athalia senti il rumore del popolo, che correva, e andò verso la moltitudine nel tempio del Signore,
14 When she looked, there stood the king on a dais, as the custom was, with the officers and trumpetersat the king's side, and all the people of the country rejoicing and blowing the trumpets; then Athaliah tore herclothes and shouted, 'Treason, treason!'	14 E vide il re, che stava sul trono secondo l'uso, e accanto a lui i cantori, e i trombetti, e tutto il popolo del paese in festa, che sonava le trombe; e stracciò le sue vesti, e gridò: Congiura, congiura.
15 Jehoiada the priest then gave the orders to the commanders in charge of the troops, 'Take her outunder guard and put to death anyone who follows her.' 'For', the priest had already said, 'she must not be killedinside the Temple of Yahweh.'	15 Ma Joiada fece comando ai centurioni, che soprastavano alle schiere,e disse loro: Conducetela fuori del recinto del tempio, e chiunque la seguirà sia ucciso di spada. Imperocché il sommo Sacerdote avea detto: Non sia ella uccisa nel tempio del Signore.
16 They seized her, and when she reached the horses' entry to the palace, she was kil ed there.	16 E quelli le messer le mani addosso, e la strascinarono per la strada della porta de' cavalli presso al palazzo, ed ivi ella fu uccisa.
17 Jehoiada made a covenant between Yahweh, the king and the people that they would remainYahweh's people; and another one between the king and the people.	17 Joiada adunque fermò l'alleanza del Signore col re, e col popolo, affinchè fosse popolo del Signore, e tral re, e il popolo.
18 Al the people of the country then went to the temple of Baal and demolished it; they smashed itsaltars and its images and kil ed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars. The priest made arrangements forthe security of the Temple of Yahweh.	18 E tutto il popolo del paese entrò nel tempio di Baal, e distrussero i suoi altari, e fecero in bricioli a furia le statue: e uccisero dinanzi all'altare lo stesso Mathan sacerdote di Baal. E il sommo Sacerdote pose guardie alla casa del Signore.
19 He then took the regimental commanders, the Carians, the guards and al the people of the country,and they escorted the king down from the Temple of Yahweh, entering the palace through the Gate of theGuards. Jehoash took his seat on the throne of the kings.	19 E presi i centurioni, e le bande di Cereth, e di Pheleth, con tutto il popolo, condussero il re fuori della casa del Signore, e andarono al palazzo per la strada della porta delle guardie; ed egli si assise sul trono dei re.
20 Al the people of the country were delighted; the city, however, made no move. And Athaliah was putto death inside the palace.	20 E tutto quanto il popolo del paese fu in festa, e la città fu tranquilla: e Athalia perì di spada nella casa del re.
	21 E Gioas avea sette anni, quando principiò a regnare.
