1 When Athaliah mother of Ahaziah learned that her son was dead, she promptly murdered al those ofroyal stock.	1 Voyant que son fils Okozias était mort, Athalie, sa mère, décida de mettre à mort toute la descendance du roi.
2 But Jehosheba, daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, surreptitiously rescued Jehoash sonof Ahaziah from among the princes who were to be murdered, and put him with his nurse in the sleepingquarters; in this way she hid him from Athaliah, and he was not killed.	2 Pendant que l’on mettait à mort tous les fils du roi, Yochéba, fille du roi Joram et sœur d’Okozias, retira discrètement l’un d’entre eux, Joas fils d’Okozias. Elle fit passer l’enfant avec sa nourrice dans la chambre des lits. Elle put ainsi le cacher à Athalie et il ne fut pas mis à mort.
3 He stayed, hidden with her in the Temple of Yahweh for six years, while Athaliah governed the country.	3 Durant six années il demeura caché auprès de Yochéba dans la Maison de Yahvé, tandis qu’Athalie régnait sur le pays.
4 In the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the regimental commanders of the Carians and the guards, andhad them brought to him in the Temple of Yahweh. He made a pact with them, put them on oath, then showedthem the king's son. He gave them this order,	4 La septième année, le prêtre Yoyada envoya chercher les officiers des Kariens et la garde. Il les fit entrer près de lui dans la Maison de Yahvé, et là il fit une alliance avec eux; après leur avoir fait prêter serment dans la Maison de Yahvé, il leur montra le fils du roi.
5 'This is what you must do: a third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath must mount guard at theroyal palace,	5 Il leur dit alors: “Voici ce que vous allez faire: un tiers d’entre vous, ceux qui prennent leur service le jour du sabbat, montera la garde au palais royal;
6 ,	6 un tiers se tiendra à la Porte de Fondation et un autre tiers à la porte qui se trouve en face des gardes; vous monterez alternativement la garde dans la Maison.
7 and your two other sections who come off duty on the Sabbath and mount guard at the Temple ofYahweh	7 Deux sections parmi vous, tous ceux qui finissent leur service le jour du sabbat, monteront la garde au Temple de Yahvé, autour du roi.
8 must surround the king, each man with his weapons in his hand; anyone forcing his way through theranks is to be kil ed. And you wil escort the king as he leaves and as he comes in.'	8 Vous ferez cercle autour du roi, chacun aura son arme à la main, et si quelqu’un cherche à forcer vos rangs, vous le mettrez à mort. Vous serez aux côtés du roi dans tous ses mouvements.”
9 The regimental commanders did everything as Jehoiada the priest had ordered, and each one broughthis men, those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty on the Sabbath, and reported toJehoiada the priest.	9 Les officiers firent tout ce qu’avait commandé le prêtre Yoyada; chacun prit ses hommes, ceux qui commençaient leur service le jour du sabbat et ceux qui le finissaient, et ils se rassemblèrent autour du prêtre Yoyada.
10 The priest then issued the regimental commanders with King David's spears and shields, which werekept in the Temple of Yahweh.	10 Le prêtre donna aux officiers les lances et les boucliers du roi David qui se trouvaient dans la Maison de Yahvé;
11 The guards then took position, each man with his weapons in his hand, from the south corner of theTemple to the north corner of the Temple, al round the altar and the Temple.	11 les gardes étaient à leur poste, chacun tenant son arme à la main, depuis le côté droit du Temple jusqu’au côté gauche, entourant l’autel et la Maison.
12 Then Jehoiada brought the king's son out -- crowned him and gave him a copy of the covenant; andthey made him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and shouted, 'Long live the king!'	12 Alors le prêtre fit avancer le fils du roi et il lui remit la couronne et les bracelets royaux. On le proclama roi et on le consacra; tout le monde applaudissait et criait: “Vive le roi!”
13 On hearing the people shouting, Athaliah joined the people in the Temple of Yahweh.	13 En entendant les cris du peuple, Athalie se dirigea vers l’attroupement de la Maison de Yahvé.
14 When she looked, there stood the king on a dais, as the custom was, with the officers and trumpetersat the king's side, and all the people of the country rejoicing and blowing the trumpets; then Athaliah tore herclothes and shouted, 'Treason, treason!'	14 Elle regarda: le roi était debout sur l’estrade selon la coutume, les chefs et les joueurs de trompette entouraient le roi, et tout le peuple-du-pays était en fête et sonnait de la trompette. Alors Athalie déchira ses habits et cria: “Trahison! Trahison!”
15 Jehoiada the priest then gave the orders to the commanders in charge of the troops, 'Take her outunder guard and put to death anyone who follows her.' 'For', the priest had already said, 'she must not be killedinside the Temple of Yahweh.'	15 Le prêtre Yoyada donna cet ordre aux officiers: “Sortez-la hors du Temple, et si quelqu’un la suit, frappez-le de l’épée!” En effet le prêtre se disait: “Il ne faut pas la mettre à mort dans la Maison de Yahvé.”
16 They seized her, and when she reached the horses' entry to the palace, she was kil ed there.	16 Ils mirent donc la main sur elle et l’entraînèrent par le chemin qui mène à l’Entrée des Chevaux jusqu’au palais royal; là, elle fut mise à mort.
17 Jehoiada made a covenant between Yahweh, the king and the people that they would remainYahweh's people; and another one between the king and the people.	17 Yoyada conclut une alliance entre Yahvé, le roi et le peuple, pour que tout le peuple se conduise vraiment en peuple de Yahvé.
18 Al the people of the country then went to the temple of Baal and demolished it; they smashed itsaltars and its images and kil ed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars. The priest made arrangements forthe security of the Temple of Yahweh.	18 Tout le peuple-du-pays vint au temple de Baal et on le démolit, on y brisa les autels et les stèles; quant à Mattan, le prêtre de Baal, on le tua devant les autels. Le prêtre plaça des gardes au Temple de Yahvé,
19 He then took the regimental commanders, the Carians, the guards and al the people of the country,and they escorted the king down from the Temple of Yahweh, entering the palace through the Gate of theGuards. Jehoash took his seat on the throne of the kings.	19 il prit avec lui les officiers, les Kariens, les gardes et tout le peuple-du-pays; on fit descendre le roi du Temple de Yahvé jusqu’au palais royal par le chemin de la Porte des Gardes et là il s’assit sur le trône royal.
20 Al the people of the country were delighted; the city, however, made no move. And Athaliah was putto death inside the palace.	20 Tout le peuple-du-pays était en fête, et la ville avait retrouvé la paix; quant à Athalie, on l’avait mise à mort par l’épée dans le palais royal.
