1 Kings 17

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, 'By the life of Yahweh, God of Israel, whom Iserve, there will be neither dew nor rain these coming years unless I give the word.'	1 Elia il tisbita, da Tisbe in Gàlaad, disse ad Acab: "Com'è vero che vive il Signore, Dio d'Israele, ch'io servo: in questi anni non ci sarà né rugiada né pioggia, se non quando lo comanderò io".
2 The word of Yahweh came to him,	2 Poi gli fu rivolta la parola del Signore:
3 'Go away from here, go east and hide by the torrent of Cherith, east of the Jordan.	3 "Parti di qui, volgiti verso l'oriente e nasconditi presso il torrente Cherit, che si trova di fronte al Giordano.
4 You can drink from the stream, and I have ordered the ravens to bring you food there.'	4 Berrai dal torrente, e ho comandato ai corvi che ivi ti procurino il nutrimento".
5 So he set out and did as Yahweh had said; he went and stayed by the torrent of Cherith, east of theJordan.	5 Egli partì e fece secondo la parola del Signore; andò a stabilirsi presso il torrente Cherit che si trova di fronte al Giordano.
6 The ravens brought him bread in the morning and meat in the evening, and he quenched his thirst atthe stream.	6 I corvi gli portavano pane al mattino e carne alla sera; egli beveva dal torrente.
7 But after a while the stream dried up, for the country had had no rain.	7 Dopo un po' di tempo il torrente si seccò, poiché non c'era stata pioggia nel paese.
8 And then the word of Yahweh came to him,	8 Allora gli fu rivolta la parola del Signore in questi termini:
9 'Up and go to Zarephath in Sidonia, and stay there. I have ordered a widow there to give you food.'	9 "Lèvati e vattene a Zarepta, che appartiene a Sidone, e abita là, poiché ho ordinato là a una vedova di provvederti il nutrimento".
10 So he went off to Sidon. And when he reached the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks.Addressing her he said, 'Please bring a little water in a pitcher for me to drink.'	10 Egli si levò e andò a Zarepta. Giunto alla porta della città, ecco lì una vedova che raccoglieva legna. Egli la chiamò e le disse: "Prendimi un po' di acqua con la brocca, perché possa bere".
11 She was on her way to fetch it when he cal ed after her. 'Please', he said, 'bring me a scrap of breadin your hand.'	11 Mentre andava a prenderla, le gridò: "Portami anche un pezzo di pane".
12 'As Yahweh your God lives,' she replied, 'I have no baked bread, but only a handful of meal in a jarand a little oil in a jug; I am just gathering a stick or two to go and prepare this for myself and my son to eat, andthen we shall die.'	12 Quella rispose: "Com'è vero che vive il Signore, tuo Dio, non ho del pane cotto, ma solo una manciata di farina in una giara e un po' d'olio in una brocca; ecco, sto raccogliendo due pezzi di legna, poi andrò a prepararla per me e per mio figlio, la mangeremo e dopo moriremo".
13 But Elijah said to her, 'Do not be afraid, go and do as you have said; but first make a little scone of itfor me and bring it to me, and then make some for yourself and for your son.	13 Elia le disse: "Non temere, va' pure e fa' come hai detto; prima però fammi con essa un piccolo pane e portamelo, poi ne farai per te e tuo figlio.
14 For Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Jar of meal shal not be spent, jug of oil shall not be emptied,before the day when Yahweh sends rain on the face of the earth.'	14 Così infatti dice il Signore, Dio d'Israele: "La giara della farina non giungerà mai alla fine e la brocca dell'olio non rimarrà mai vuota, sino al giorno in cui il Signore non invierà la pioggia sulla faccia della terra".
15 The woman went and did as Elijah told her and they ate the food, she, himself and her son.	15 Ella andò e fece come le disse Elia; e mangiarono lei, lui e il figlio di lei per parecchio tempo.
16 The jar of meal was not spent nor the jug of oil emptied, just as Yahweh had foretold through Elijah.	16 La giara della farina non giunse mai alla fine e la brocca dell'olio non rimase mai vuota secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detto per bocca di Elia.
17 It happened after this that the son of the mistress of the house fel sick; his il ness was so severe thatin the end he expired.	17 Ora, dopo questi avvenimenti, s'ammalò il figlio di quella donna, ch'era padrona di casa. La sua malattia fu così violenta ch'egli spirò.
18 And the woman said to Elijah, 'What quarrel have you with me, man of God? Have you come here tobring my sins home to me and to kill my son?'	18 Allora ella disse ad Elia: "Che cosa v'è tra me e te, o uomo di Dio? Sei forse venuto da me a ricordarmi il mio peccato e farmi morire il figlio?".
19 'Give me your son,' he said and, taking him from her lap, he carried him to the upper room where hewas staying and laid him on his bed.	19 Egli le rispose: "Dammi tuo figlio!". Lo prese dal suo seno, lo portò nella stanza superiore dov'egli abitava e lo coricò sul suo letto.
20 He cried out to Yahweh, 'Yahweh my God, by kil ing her son do you mean to bring grief even to thewidow who is looking after me?'	20 Poi invocò il Signore: "Signore, mio Dio, vuoi proprio fare del male anche alla vedova che mi ospita, facendole morire il figlio?".
21 He stretched himself on the child three times and cried out to Yahweh, 'Yahweh my God, may thesoul of this child, I beg you, come into him again!'	21 Quindi si distese tre volte sul fanciullo e invocò il Signore: "Signore, mio Dio, l'anima di questo fanciullo ritorni in lui!".
22 Yahweh heard Elijah's prayer and the child's soul came back into his body and he revived.	22 Il Signore esaudì la voce di Elia; l'anima del fanciullo ritornò in lui ed egli ridivenne vivo.
23 Elijah took the child, brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to hismother. 'Look,' Elijah said, 'your son is alive.'	23 Allora Elia prese il fanciullo, lo fece discendere dalla stanza superiore nella casa e lo consegnò a sua madre. Elia le disse: "Guarda, tuo figlio è vivo!".
24 And the woman replied, 'Now I know you are a man of God and the word of Yahweh in your mouth istruth itself.'	24 La donna rispose ad Elia: "Ora so proprio che tu sei un uomo di Dio e che la parola del Signore, sulla bocca tua, è verità".
