1 Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, 'By the life of Yahweh, God of Israel, whom Iserve, there will be neither dew nor rain these coming years unless I give the word.'	1 Le prophète Élie - il était de Tichbé en Galaad - vint dire à Akab: “Aussi vrai que Yahvé Dieu d’Israël, celui que je sers, est vivant, il n’y aura durant ces années-ci ni rosée ni pluie, sauf à ma parole.”
2 The word of Yahweh came to him,	2 Une parole de Yahvé fut alors adressée à Élie:
3 'Go away from here, go east and hide by the torrent of Cherith, east of the Jordan.	3 “Pars d’ici et va du côté de l’est. Tu te cacheras dans le torrent de Kérit à l’est du Jourdain.
4 You can drink from the stream, and I have ordered the ravens to bring you food there.'	4 Tu boiras l’eau du torrent et j’ai donné des ordres aux corbeaux pour que là-bas ils te ravitaillent.”
5 So he set out and did as Yahweh had said; he went and stayed by the torrent of Cherith, east of theJordan.	5 Élie partit donc et fit ce que Yahvé lui avait dit; il alla s’établir au torrent de Kérit à l’est du Jourdain.
6 The ravens brought him bread in the morning and meat in the evening, and he quenched his thirst atthe stream.	6 Les corbeaux lui apportaient du pain le matin et de la viande le soir.
7 But after a while the stream dried up, for the country had had no rain.	7 Mais au bout d’un certain temps le torrent resta à sec, car la pluie ne tombait plus sur le pays.
8 And then the word of Yahweh came to him,	8 Une parole de Dieu lui fut alors adressée:
9 'Up and go to Zarephath in Sidonia, and stay there. I have ordered a widow there to give you food.'	9 “Lève-toi, va t’établir à Sarepta dans la région de Sidon. J’ai donné des ordres là-bas à une veuve pour qu’elle te nourrisse.”
10 So he went off to Sidon. And when he reached the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks.Addressing her he said, 'Please bring a little water in a pitcher for me to drink.'	10 Il se leva donc et partit pour Sarepta. Lorsqu’il arriva à la porte de la ville, une veuve était là qui ramassait du bois. Il l’appela et lui dit: “Voudrais-tu me chercher un peu d’eau dans cette cruche pour que je boive.”
11 She was on her way to fetch it when he cal ed after her. 'Please', he said, 'bring me a scrap of breadin your hand.'	11 Comme elle allait en prendre, il l’appela et lui dit: “Voudrais-tu m’apporter aussi un morceau de pain.”
12 'As Yahweh your God lives,' she replied, 'I have no baked bread, but only a handful of meal in a jarand a little oil in a jug; I am just gathering a stick or two to go and prepare this for myself and my son to eat, andthen we shall die.'	12 Elle répondit: “Aussi vrai que Yahvé ton Dieu est vivant, je n’ai rien de cuit, je n’ai qu’un peu de farine dans un pot et un peu d’huile dans une cruche. Je m’en vais ramasser deux morceaux de bois et je reviens le préparer à la maison pour moi et pour mon fils. Nous le mangerons, et ensuite ce sera la mort.”
13 But Elijah said to her, 'Do not be afraid, go and do as you have said; but first make a little scone of itfor me and bring it to me, and then make some for yourself and for your son.	13 Élie lui dit: “N’aie pas peur, rentre et fais ce que tu as dit; seulement prépare-moi d’abord une petite galette que tu m’apporteras, tu en feras une ensuite pour toi et pour ton fils.
14 For Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Jar of meal shal not be spent, jug of oil shall not be emptied,before the day when Yahweh sends rain on the face of the earth.'	14 Car voici ce que dit Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël: La farine du pot ne s’épuisera pas, l’huile dans la cruche ne se terminera pas jusqu’au jour où Yahvé fera tomber la pluie sur la terre.”
15 The woman went and did as Elijah told her and they ate the food, she, himself and her son.	15 Elle partit donc et fit comme Élie le lui avait dit, et pendant longtemps ils eurent à manger, lui et elle et le fils.
16 The jar of meal was not spent nor the jug of oil emptied, just as Yahweh had foretold through Elijah.	16 La farine du pot ne s’épuisa pas et l’huile dans la cruche ne se termina pas, selon la parole que Yahvé avait dite par la bouche d’Élie.
17 It happened after this that the son of the mistress of the house fel sick; his il ness was so severe thatin the end he expired.	17 Dans la suite il arriva que le fils de la maîtresse de maison tomba malade; sa maladie empira et il rendit le dernier souffle.
18 And the woman said to Elijah, 'What quarrel have you with me, man of God? Have you come here tobring my sins home to me and to kill my son?'	18 Alors elle dit à Élie: “Pourquoi t’es-tu mis dans mes affaires, homme de Dieu? Es-tu venu chez moi pour remettre devant Dieu toutes mes fautes et pour faire mourir mon fils?”
19 'Give me your son,' he said and, taking him from her lap, he carried him to the upper room where hewas staying and laid him on his bed.	19 Il lui répondit: “Donne-moi ton fils.” Élie le prit des bras de cette femme, il le monta dans la chambre haute où il logeait et le coucha sur son lit.
20 He cried out to Yahweh, 'Yahweh my God, by kil ing her son do you mean to bring grief even to thewidow who is looking after me?'	20 Puis il invoqua Yahvé: “Yahvé, mon Dieu, dit-il, feras-tu venir le malheur même sur cette veuve qui me loge, feras-tu mourir son fils?”
21 He stretched himself on the child three times and cried out to Yahweh, 'Yahweh my God, may thesoul of this child, I beg you, come into him again!'	21 Alors il s’allongea par trois fois sur l’enfant et il invoqua Yahvé: “Yahvé mon Dieu, redonne à cet enfant le souffle de vie.”
22 Yahweh heard Elijah's prayer and the child's soul came back into his body and he revived.	22 Yahvé entendit l’appel d’Élie et le souffle de l’enfant lui revint: il était vivant!
23 Elijah took the child, brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to hismother. 'Look,' Elijah said, 'your son is alive.'	23 Élie prit l’enfant, le fit descendre de la chambre haute dans la maison, et le redonna à sa mère. Élie lui dit: “Regarde, ton fils est vivant.”
24 And the woman replied, 'Now I know you are a man of God and the word of Yahweh in your mouth istruth itself.'	24 Alors la femme dit à Élie: “Maintenant je sais que tu es un homme de Dieu, et quand tu dis la parole de Dieu, c’est vrai!”
