NEW JERUSALEM	EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL
1 Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, 'By the life of Yahweh, God of Israel, whom Iserve, there will be neither dew nor rain these coming years unless I give the word.'	1 Der Prophet Elija aus Tischbe in Gilead sprach zu Ahab: So wahr der Herr, der Gott Israels, lebt, in dessen Dienst ich stehe: in diesen Jahren sollen weder Tau noch Regen fallen, es sei denn auf mein Wort hin.
2 The word of Yahweh came to him,	2 Danach erging das Wort des Herrn an Elija:
3 'Go away from here, go east and hide by the torrent of Cherith, east of the Jordan.	3 Geh weg von hier, wende dich nach Osten und verbirg dich am Bach Kerit östlich des Jordan!
4 You can drink from the stream, and I have ordered the ravens to bring you food there.'	4 Aus dem Bach sollst du trinken und den Raben habe ich befohlen, dass sie dich dort ernähren.
5 So he set out and did as Yahweh had said; he went and stayed by the torrent of Cherith, east of theJordan.	5 Elija ging weg und tat, was der Herr befohlen hatte; er begab sich zum Bach Kerit östlich des Jordan und ließ sich dort nieder.
6 The ravens brought him bread in the morning and meat in the evening, and he quenched his thirst atthe stream.	6 Die Raben brachten ihm Brot und Fleisch am Morgen und ebenso Brot und Fleisch am Abend und er trank aus dem Bach.
7 But after a while the stream dried up, for the country had had no rain.	7 Nach einiger Zeit aber vertrocknete der Bach; denn es fiel kein Regen im Land.
8 And then the word of Yahweh came to him,	8 Da erging das Wort des Herrn an Elija:
9 'Up and go to Zarephath in Sidonia, and stay there. I have ordered a widow there to give you food.'	9 Mach dich auf und geh nach Sarepta, das zu Sidon gehört, und bleib dort! Ich habe dort einer Witwe befohlen, dich zu versorgen.
10 So he went off to Sidon. And when he reached the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks.Addressing her he said, 'Please bring a little water in a pitcher for me to drink.'	10 Er machte sich auf und ging nach Sarepta. Als er an das Stadttor kam, traf er dort eine Witwe, die Holz auflas. Er bat sie: Bring mir in einem Gefäß ein wenig Wasser zum Trinken!
11 She was on her way to fetch it when he cal ed after her. 'Please', he said, 'bring me a scrap of breadin your hand.'	11 Als sie wegging, um es zu holen, rief er ihr nach: Bring mir auch einen Bissen Brot mit!
12 'As Yahweh your God lives,' she replied, 'I have no baked bread, but only a handful of meal in a jarand a little oil in a jug; I am just gathering a stick or two to go and prepare this for myself and my son to eat, andthen we shall die.'	12 Doch sie sagte: So wahr der Herr, dein Gott, lebt: Ich habe nichts mehr vorrätig als eine Hand voll Mehl im Topf und ein wenig Öl im Krug. Ich lese hier ein paar Stücke Holz auf und gehe dann heim, um für mich und meinen Sohn etwas zuzubereiten. Das wollen wir noch essen und dann sterben.
13 But Elijah said to her, 'Do not be afraid, go and do as you have said; but first make a little scone of itfor me and bring it to me, and then make some for yourself and for your son.	13 Elija entgegnete ihr: Fürchte dich nicht! Geh heim und tu, was du gesagt hast. Nur mache zuerst für mich ein kleines Gebäck und bring es zu mir heraus! Danach kannst du für dich und deinen Sohn etwas zubereiten;
14 For Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Jar of meal shal not be spent, jug of oil shall not be emptied,before the day when Yahweh sends rain on the face of the earth.'	14 denn so spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels: Der Mehltopf wird nicht leer werden und der Ölkrug nicht versiegen bis zu dem Tag, an dem der Herr wieder Regen auf den Erdboden sendet.
15 The woman went and did as Elijah told her and they ate the food, she, himself and her son.	15 Sie ging und tat, was Elija gesagt hatte. So hatte sie mit ihm und ihrem Sohn viele Tage zu essen.
16 The jar of meal was not spent nor the jug of oil emptied, just as Yahweh had foretold through Elijah.	16 Der Mehltopf wurde nicht leer und der Ölkrug versiegte nicht, wie der Herr durch Elija versprochen hatte.
17 It happened after this that the son of the mistress of the house fel sick; his il ness was so severe thatin the end he expired.	17 Nach einiger Zeit erkrankte der Sohn der Witwe, der das Haus gehörte. Die Krankheit verschlimmerte sich so, dass zuletzt kein Atem mehr in ihm war.
18 And the woman said to Elijah, 'What quarrel have you with me, man of God? Have you come here tobring my sins home to me and to kill my son?'	18 Da sagte sie zu Elija: Was habe ich mit dir zu schaffen, Mann Gottes? Du bist nur zu mir gekommen, um an meine Sünde zu erinnern und meinem Sohn den Tod zu bringen.
19 'Give me your son,' he said and, taking him from her lap, he carried him to the upper room where hewas staying and laid him on his bed.	19 Er antwortete ihr: Gib mir deinen Sohn! Und er nahm ihn von ihrem Schoß, trug ihn in das Obergemach hinauf, in dem er wohnte, und legte ihn auf sein Bett.
20 He cried out to Yahweh, 'Yahweh my God, by kil ing her son do you mean to bring grief even to thewidow who is looking after me?'	20 Dann rief er zum Herrn und sagte: Herr, mein Gott, willst du denn auch über die Witwe, in deren Haus ich wohne, Unheil bringen und ihren Sohn sterben lassen?
21 He stretched himself on the child three times and cried out to Yahweh, 'Yahweh my God, may thesoul of this child, I beg you, come into him again!'	21 Hierauf streckte er sich dreimal über den Knaben hin, rief zum Herrn und flehte: Herr, mein Gott, lass doch das Leben in diesen Knaben zurückkehren!
22 Yahweh heard Elijah's prayer and the child's soul came back into his body and he revived.	22 Der Herr erhörte das Gebet Elijas. Das Leben kehrte in den Knaben zurück und er lebte wieder auf.
23 Elijah took the child, brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to hismother. 'Look,' Elijah said, 'your son is alive.'	23 Elija nahm ihn, brachte ihn vom Obergemach in das Haus hinab und gab ihn seiner Mutter zurück mit den Worten: Sieh, dein Sohn lebt.
24 And the woman replied, 'Now I know you are a man of God and the word of Yahweh in your mouth istruth itself.'	24 Da sagte die Frau zu Elija: Jetzt weiß ich, dass du ein Mann Gottes bist und dass das Wort des Herrn wirklich in deinem Mund ist.
