2 Samuel 24

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Again, Yahweh's anger was aroused against Israel, and he incited David against them. 'Go,' he said,'take a census of Israel and Judah.'	1 El Señor volvió a indignarse contra los israelitas e instigó a David contra ellos, diciéndole: «Ve a hacer el censo de Israel y de Judá».
2 The king said to Joab and the senior army officers who were with him, 'Now, go through al the tribesof Israel from Dan to Beersheba, and take a census of the people; I wish to know the size of the population.'	2 El rey dijo a Joab, el jefe del ejército, que estaba con él: «Recorre todas las tribus de Israel, desde Dan hasta Berseba y hagan el censo del pueblo, para que yo sepa el número de la población».
3 Joab said to the king, 'May Yahweh your God multiply the people a hundred times -- however manythere are -- while my lord the king stil has eyes to see it, but why should my lord the king be set on this?'	3 Joab respondió al rey: «Que el Señor, tu Dios, multiplique al pueblo cien veces más de lo que es, y que los ojos de mi señor, el rey, puedan verlo. Pero ¿por qué quieres hacer esto?».
4 The king nonetheless enforced his order on Joab and the senior officers, and Joab and the seniorofficers left the king's presence, to take a census of the people of Israel.	4 Sin embargo, la orden del rey se impuso a Joab y a los jefes del ejército, y estos salieron de la presencia del rey para hacer el censo del pueblo de Israel.
5 They crossed the Jordan and made a start with Aroer and the town in the middle of the valley, thenmoved on to the Gadites and to Jazer.	5 Cruzaron el Jordán y acamparon en Aroer, al sur de la ciudad que está en el valle del torrente de Gad, dirigiéndose luego a Iazer.
6 They then went to Gilead and the territory of the Hittites, to Kadesh; they then went to Dan and fromDan cut across to Sidon.	6 Llegaron a Galaad y a la región baja, en Jodsí. Pasaron a Dan Iaán y luego, continuando el circuito, llegaron a Sidón.
7 They then went to the fortress of Tyre and to al the towns of the Hittites and Canaanites ending up inthe Negeb of Judah at Beersheba.	7 Entraron en el Fuerte de Tiro y en todas las ciudades de los jivitas y de los cananeos, y luego partieron para Berseba, en el Négueb de Judá.
8 Having travel ed throughout the country, after nine months and twenty days they returned toJerusalem.	8 Así recorrieron todo el país y, al cabo de nueve meses y veinte días, llegaron a Jerusalén.
9 Joab gave the king the census results for the people; Israel had eight hundred thousand fighting menwho could wield a sword, and Judah five hundred thousand.	9 Joab presentó al rey las cifras del censo de la población, y resultó que en Israel había 800.000 hombres aptos para el servicio militar, y en Judá 500.000.
10 But afterwards David's heart misgave him for having taken a census of the people. David then said toYahweh, 'I have committed a grave sin by doing this. But now, Yahweh, I beg you to forgive your servant for thisfault, for I have acted very foolishly.'	10 Pero, después de esto, David sintió remordimiento de haber hecho el recuento de la población, y dijo al Señor: «He pecado gravemente al obrar así. Dígnate ahora, Señor, borrar la falta de tu servidor, porque me he comportado como un necio».
11 When, however, David got up next morning, the fol owing message had come from Yahweh to theprophet Gad, David's seer,	11 A la mañana siguiente, cuando David se levantó, la palabra del Señor había llegado al profeta Gad, el vidente de David, en estos términos:
12 'Go and say to David, "Yahweh says this: I offer you three things; choose which one of them I am toinflict on you." '	12 «Ve a decir a David: Así habla el Señor: Te propongo tres cosas. Elige una, y yo la llevaré a cabo».
13 So Gad went to David and said, 'Which do you prefer: to have three years of famine befal yourcountry; to flee for three months before a pursuing army; or to have three days of epidemic in your country? Nowthink, and decide how I am to answer him who sends me.'	13 Gad se presentó a David y le llevó la noticia, diciendo: «¿Qué prefieres: soportar tres años de hambre en tu país, o huir tres meses ante la persecución de tu enemigo, o que haya tres días de peste en tu territorio? Piensa y mira bien ahora lo que debo responder al que me envió».
14 David said to Gad, 'I am very apprehensive . . . Better to fal into Yahweh's hands, since his merciesare great, than to fal into the hands of men!'	14 David dijo a Gad: «¡Estoy en un grave aprieto! Caigamos más bien en manos del Señor, porque es muy grande su misericordia, antes que caer en manos de los hombres».
15 So David chose the epidemic. It was the time of the wheat harvest. So Yahweh unleashed anepidemic on Israel from that morning until the time determined; plague ravaged the people and, of the peoplefrom Dan to Beersheba, seventy thousand died.	15 Entonces el Señor envió la peste a Israel, desde esa mañana hasta el tiempo señalado, y murieron setenta mil hombres del pueblo, desde Dan hasta Berseba.
16 But when the angel stretched his hand towards Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh felt sorry about thecalamity and said to the angel who was destroying the people, 'Enough now! Hold your hand!' The angel ofYahweh was standing by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.	16 El Angel extendió la mano hacia Jerusalén para exterminarla, pero el Señor se arrepintió del mal que le infligía y dijo al Angel que exterminaba al pueblo: «¡Basta ya! ¡Retira tu mano!». El Angel del Señor estaba junto a la era de Arauná, el jebuseo.
17 When David saw the angel who was ravaging the people, he said to Yahweh, 'I was the one whosinned. I was the one who acted wrongly. But these, the flock, what have they done? Let your hand lie heavy onme and on my family!'	17 Y al ver al Angel que castigaba al pueblo, David dijo al Señor: «¡Yo soy el que he pecado! ¡Soy yo el culpable! Pero estos, las ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? ¡Descarga tu mano sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre!».
18 Gad went to David that day and said, 'Go up and raise an altar to Yahweh on the threshing-floor ofAraunah the Jebusite.'	18 Aquel mismo día, Gad se presentó a David y le dijo: «Sube a erigir un altar al Señor en la era de Arauná, el jebuseo».
19 So, at Gad's bidding, David went up, as Yahweh had ordered.	19 David subió conforme a la palabra que le había dicho Gad por orden del Señor.
20 When Araunah looked up and saw the king and his retinue advancing towards him-Araunah wasthreshing the wheat -- Araunah came forward and prostrated himself on the ground at the king's feet.	20 Arauná miró y vio al rey y a sus servidores que se dirigían hacia él. Entonces salió, se postró ante el rey con el rostro en tierra,
21 'Why has my lord the king come to his servant?' Araunah asked. David replied, 'To buy the threshing-floor from you, to build an altar to Yahweh, so that the plague may be lifted from the people.'	21 y dijo: «¿Por qué mi señor, el rey, viene a ver a su servidor?». David respondió: «Para comprarte esta era y erigir en ella un altar al Señor. Así esta plaga dejará de abatirse sobre el pueblo».
22 Araunah said to David, 'Let my lord the king take it and make what offerings he thinks fit. Here arethe oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing-sleds and the oxen's yokes for the wood.	22 Arauná dijo a David: «Tómala, y que mi señor, el rey, ofrezca en sacrificio lo que mejor le parezca. Ahí están los bueyes para el holocausto, y los trillos y los yugos servirán de leña».
23 My lord the king's servant wil give the king everything. And', Araunah said to the king, 'may Yahwehyour God accept what you offer!'	23 Arauná le dio al rey todo eso, y añadió: «¡Que el Señor, tu Dios, te sea propicio!».
24 'No,' said the king to Araunah, 'I shal give you a price for it; I will not offer Yahweh my God burntofferings which have cost me nothing.' David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.	24 Pero el rey dijo a Arauná: «¡De ninguna manera! La compraré por su debido precio; no voy a ofrecer al Señor, mi Dios, holocaustos que no cuesten nada». Y David compró la era y los bueyes por cincuenta siclos de plata.
25 David built an altar to Yahweh and offered burnt offerings and communion sacrifices. Yahweh thentook pity on the country and the plague was lifted from Israel.	25 Allí David erigió un altar y ofreció holocaustos y sacrificios de comunión. El Señor aplacó su ira y la plaga cesó de abatirse sobre Israel.
