NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Again, Yahweh's anger was aroused against Israel, and he incited David against them. 'Go,' he said,'take a census of Israel and Judah.'	1 Se encendió otra vez la ira de Yahveh contra los israelitas e incitó a David contra ellos diciendo: «Anda, haz el censo de Israel y de Judá».
2 The king said to Joab and the senior army officers who were with him, 'Now, go through al the tribesof Israel from Dan to Beersheba, and take a census of the people; I wish to know the size of the population.'	2 El rey dijo a Joab y a los jefes del ejército que estaban con él: «Recorre todas las tribus de Israel desde Dan hasta Berseba y haz el censo para que yo sepa la cifra de la población».
3 Joab said to the king, 'May Yahweh your God multiply the people a hundred times -- however manythere are -- while my lord the king stil has eyes to see it, but why should my lord the king be set on this?'	3 Joab respondió al rey: «Que Yahveh tu Dios multiplique el pueblo cien veces más de lo que es y que los ojos de mi señor el rey lo vean. Mas ¿para qué quiere esto mi señor el rey?»
4 The king nonetheless enforced his order on Joab and the senior officers, and Joab and the seniorofficers left the king's presence, to take a census of the people of Israel.	4 Pero prevaleció la orden del rey sobre Joab y los jefes del ejército y salió Joab con los jefes del ejército de la presencia del rey para hacer el censo del pueblo de Israel.
5 They crossed the Jordan and made a start with Aroer and the town in the middle of the valley, thenmoved on to the Gadites and to Jazer.	5 Pasaron el Jordán y comenzaron por Aroer, la ciudad que está en medio del valle, y por Gad hasta Yazer.
6 They then went to Gilead and the territory of the Hittites, to Kadesh; they then went to Dan and fromDan cut across to Sidon.	6 Fueron luego a Galaad y al país de los hititas, a Cadés. Llegaron hasta Dan y desde Dan doblaron hacia Sidón.
7 They then went to the fortress of Tyre and to al the towns of the Hittites and Canaanites ending up inthe Negeb of Judah at Beersheba.	7 Llegaron hasta la fortaleza de Tiro y todas las ciudades de los jivitas y cananeos, saliendo finlamente al Négueb de Judá, a Berseba.
8 Having travel ed throughout the country, after nine months and twenty days they returned toJerusalem.	8 Recorrieron así todo el país y al cabo de nueve meses y veinte días volvieron a Jerusalén.
9 Joab gave the king the census results for the people; Israel had eight hundred thousand fighting menwho could wield a sword, and Judah five hundred thousand.	9 Joab entregó al rey la cifra del censo del pueblo. Había en Israel 800.000 hombres de guerra capaces de manejar las armas; en Judá había 500.000 hombres.
10 But afterwards David's heart misgave him for having taken a census of the people. David then said toYahweh, 'I have committed a grave sin by doing this. But now, Yahweh, I beg you to forgive your servant for thisfault, for I have acted very foolishly.'	10 Después de haber hecho el censo del pueblo, le remordió a David el corazón y dijo David a Yahveh: «He cometido un gran pecado. Pero ahora, Yahveh, perdona, te ruego, la falta de tu siervo, pues he sido muy necio».
11 When, however, David got up next morning, the fol owing message had come from Yahweh to theprophet Gad, David's seer,	11 Cuando David se levantó por la mañana, le había sido dirigida la palabra de Yahveh al profeta Gad, vidente de David, diciendo:
12 'Go and say to David, "Yahweh says this: I offer you three things; choose which one of them I am toinflict on you." '	12 «Anda y di a David: Así dice Yahveh: Tres cosas te propongo; elije una de ellas y la llevaré a cabo».
13 So Gad went to David and said, 'Which do you prefer: to have three years of famine befal yourcountry; to flee for three months before a pursuing army; or to have three days of epidemic in your country? Nowthink, and decide how I am to answer him who sends me.'	13 Llegó Gad donde David y le anunció: «¿Qué quieres que te venga, tres años de gran hambre en tu país, tres meses de derrotas ante tus enemigos y que te persigan, o tres días de peste en tu tierra? Ahora piensa y mira qué debo responder al que me envía».
14 David said to Gad, 'I am very apprehensive . . . Better to fal into Yahweh's hands, since his merciesare great, than to fal into the hands of men!'	14 David respondió a Gad: «Estoy en grande angustia. Pero caigamos en manos de Yahveh que es grande su misericordia. No caiga yo en manos de los hombres».
15 So David chose the epidemic. It was the time of the wheat harvest. So Yahweh unleashed anepidemic on Israel from that morning until the time determined; plague ravaged the people and, of the peoplefrom Dan to Beersheba, seventy thousand died.	15 Y David eligió la peste para sí. Eran los días de la recolección del trigo. Yahveh envió la peste a Israel desde la mañana hasta el tiempo señalado y murieron 70.000 hombres del pueblo, desde Dan hasta Berseba.
16 But when the angel stretched his hand towards Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh felt sorry about thecalamity and said to the angel who was destroying the people, 'Enough now! Hold your hand!' The angel ofYahweh was standing by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.	16 El ángel extendió la mano hacia Jerusalén para destruirla, pero Yahveh se arrepintió del estrago y dijo al ángel que exterminaba el pueblo: «¡Basta ya! Retira tu mano». El ángel de Yahveh estaba entonces junto a la era de Arauná el jebuseo.
17 When David saw the angel who was ravaging the people, he said to Yahweh, 'I was the one whosinned. I was the one who acted wrongly. But these, the flock, what have they done? Let your hand lie heavy onme and on my family!'	17 Cuando David vio al ángel que hería al pueblo, dijo a Yahveh: «Yo fui quien pequé, yo cometí el mal, pero estas ovejas ¿qué han hecho? Caiga, te suplico, tu mano sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre».
18 Gad went to David that day and said, 'Go up and raise an altar to Yahweh on the threshing-floor ofAraunah the Jebusite.'	18 Vino Gad aquel día donde David y le dijo: «Sube y levanta un altar a Yahveh en la era de Arauná el jebuseo».
19 So, at Gad's bidding, David went up, as Yahweh had ordered.	19 David subió, según la palabra de Gad, como había ordenado Yahveh.
20 When Araunah looked up and saw the king and his retinue advancing towards him-Araunah wasthreshing the wheat -- Araunah came forward and prostrated himself on the ground at the king's feet.	20 Miró Arauná y vio al rey y a sus servidores que venían hacia él. Entonces Arauná salió y se postró rostro en tierra ante el rey.
21 'Why has my lord the king come to his servant?' Araunah asked. David replied, 'To buy the threshing-floor from you, to build an altar to Yahweh, so that the plague may be lifted from the people.'	21 Y dijo Arauná: «¿Cómo mi señor el rey viene a su siervo?» David respondió: «Vengo a comprarte la era para levantar un altar a Yahveh y detener la plaga del pueblo».
22 Araunah said to David, 'Let my lord the king take it and make what offerings he thinks fit. Here arethe oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing-sleds and the oxen's yokes for the wood.	22 Arauná dijo a David: «Que el rey mi señor tome y ofrezca lo que bien le parezca. Mira los bueyes para el holocausto, los trillos y los yugos de los bueyes para leña.
23 My lord the king's servant wil give the king everything. And', Araunah said to the king, 'may Yahwehyour God accept what you offer!'	23 El siervo de mi señor el rey da todo esto al rey». Y Arauná dijo al rey: «Que Yahveh tu Dios te sea propicio».
24 'No,' said the king to Araunah, 'I shal give you a price for it; I will not offer Yahweh my God burntofferings which have cost me nothing.' David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.	24 Pero el rey dijo a Arauná: «No; quiero comprártelo por su precio, no quiero ofrecer a Yahveh mi Dios holocaustos de balde». Y David compró la era y los bueyes por cincuenta siclos de plata.
25 David built an altar to Yahweh and offered burnt offerings and communion sacrifices. Yahweh thentook pity on the country and the plague was lifted from Israel.	25 Levantó allí David un altar a Yahveh y ofreció holocaustos y sacrificios de comunión. Entonces Yahveh atendió a las súplicas en favor de la tierra y la peste se apartó de Israel.
