1 David addressed the words of this song to Yahweh, when Yahweh had delivered him from theclutches of all his enemies and from the clutches of Saul.	1 David rivolse al Signore le parole di questo cantico nel giorno in cui il Signore l'ebbe liberato da tutti i suoi nemici e da Saul.
2 He said: Yahweh is my rock and my fortress,	2 Egli disse: « Il Signore è la mia rocca, la mia forza, il mio salvatore;
3 my deliverer is my God. I take refuge in him, my rock, my shield, my saving strength, my stronghold,my place of refuge. My Saviour, you have saved me from violence;	3 Dio è il mio forte: io spererò in lui; Egli è il mio scudo, la forza della mia salvezza, il mio esaltatore, il mio rifugio. Mio Salvatore, tu mi libererai dall'iniquità.
4 I cal to Yahweh, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my foes.	4 Invocherò il degno di lode, il Signore, sarò salvo dai miei nemici.
5 With Death's breakers closing in on me, Belial's torrents ready to swal ow me,	5 Gli affanni della morte mi circondarono, i torrenti di Belial mi atterrirono,
6 Sheol's snares on every side of me, Death's traps lying ahead of me,	6 i legami dell'inferno mi cinsero, i lacci di morte mi strinsero;
7 I cal ed to Yahweh in my anguish, I cried for help to my God, from his Temple he heard my voice, mycry came to his ears!	7 ma nella mia tribolazione invocherò il Signore, verso il mio Dio alzerò la voce; ed Egli dal suo tempio esaudirà la mia voce, giungerà alle sue orecchie il mio grido.
8 Then the earth quaked and rocked, the heavens' foundations shuddered, they quaked at his blazinganger.	8 Si commosse e tremò la terra, agitate e scosse furono le fondamenta dei monti, perchè Egli era contro di loro sdegnato.
9 Smoke rose from his nostrils, from his mouth devouring fire (coals were kindled at it).	9 Fumo salì dalle sue nari, fuoco divoratore dalla sua bocca, e ne sono stati accesi i carboni,
10 He parted the heavens and came down, a storm-cloud underneath his feet;	10 Abbassò i cieli e discese densa nube sotto i suoi piedi,
11 riding one of the winged creatures, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.	11 salì sopra i cherubini e volò, si slanciò sulle ali dei venti.
12 He wrapped himself in darkness, his pavilion dark waters and dense cloud.	12 Si circondò di tenebre, per esser nascosto, fece stillare le acque dalle nubi dei cieli.
13 A brightness lit up before him, hail and blazing fire.	13 Dal fulgore della sua presenza sono stati accesi i carboni di fuoco.
14 Yahweh thundered from the heavens, the Most High made his voice heard.	14 Il Signore tonerà dal cielo, l'Altissimo manderà la sua voce.
15 He shot his arrows and scattered them, his lightning flashed and routed them.	15 Scagliò le saette e li dissipò, i fulmini e li distrusse.
16 The very springs of ocean were exposed, the world's foundations were laid bare, at the roaring ofYahweh, at the blast of breath from his nostrils!	16 Apparvero gli abissi del mare, furon messi a nudo i fondamenti del mondo, alle minacce del Signore, al soffio del vento del suo furore.
17 He reached down from on high, snatched me up, pul ed me from the watery depths,	17 Stesa dall'alto la mano, mi prese e mi trasse dalle acque profonde.
18 rescued me from my mighty foe, from my enemies who were stronger than I.	18 Egli mi liberò dal mio potentissimo nemico e da coloro che mi odiavano, perchè eran più forti di me.
19 They assailed me on my day of disaster, but Yahweh was there to support me,	19 Egli mi prevenne nel giorno della mia afflizione, e, facendosi mio sostegno,
20 he freed me, set me at large, he rescued me, because he loves me.	20 mi trasse fuori al largo, mi liberò, perchè io gli piacqui.
21 Yahweh rewards me for my uprightness, as my hands are pure so he repays me,	21 Il Signore mi ricompenserà secondo la mia giustizia, mi renderà secondo la purezza delle mie mani,
22 since I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and not fal en away from my God.	22 avendo io camminato nelle vie del Signore, senza allontanarmi, operando empiamente, dal mio Dio.
23 His judgements are al before me, his statutes I have not put away from me;	23 Tutti i suoi giudizi sono dinanzi ai miei occhi, non gettai lungi da me i suoi precetti;
24 I am blameless before him, I keep myself clear of evil.	24 e sarò perfetto con lui e mi guarderò dalla mia iniquità.
25 Hence Yahweh repaid me for acting uprightly because he could see I was pure.	25 Il Signore mi renderà secondo la mia giustizia, secondo la purezza delle mie mani davanti ai suoi occhi.
26 Faithful you are to the faithful, blameless with the blameless,	26 Col santo tu sarai santo, col forte, perfetto,
27 sincere to the sincere but cunning to the crafty,	27 coll'innocente, innocente, col perverso, perverso:
28 you save a people that is humble and humiliate those with haughty looks.	28 tu salverai il popolo povero, e coi tuoi occhi umilierai i superbi.
29 Yahweh, you yourself are my lamp, my God lights up my darkness;	29 Tu sei la mia luce, o Signore; o Signore, rischiara le mie tenebre!
30 with you I storm the rampart with my God I can scale any wal .	30 Con te mi precipiterò nella battaglia, col mio Dio darò la scalata alle mura.
31 This God, his way is blameless; the word of Yahweh is refined in the furnace, for he alone is theshield of al who take refuge in him.	31 Dio! La via di Dio è immacolata, la parola del Signore è purificata col fuoco; Egli è scudo di tutti quelli che sperano in lui.
32 For who is God but Yahweh, who is a rock but our God:	32 Chi è Dio, se non il Signore? Chi è il forte, se non il Dio nostro?
33 this God who girds me with strength, who makes my way free from blame,	33 Dio m'ha cinto di forza; ha resa piana e perfetta la mia via,
34 who makes me as swift as a deer and sets me firmly on the heights,	34 ha resi uguali ai cervi i miei piedi, m'ha fatto star ritto sulle alture,
35 who trains my hands for battle my arms to bend a bow of bronze.	35 ha addestrate le mie mani alla battaglia, ha rese le mie braccia come un arco di rame.
36 You give me your invincible shield, you never cease to listen to me,	36 Tu m'hai dato lo scudo della tua salvezza, la tua benignità mi ha moltiplicato.
37 you give me the strides of a giant, give me ankles that never weaken-	37 Tu allargherai i miei passi sotto di me, senza far vacillare i miei calcagni.
38 I pursue my enemies and exterminate them, not turning back till they are annihilated;	38 Inseguirò i miei nemici e li sterminerò; non ritornerò senza averli distrutti:
39 I strike them down, and they cannot rise, they fal , they are under my feet.	39 gli distruggerò, li stritolerò in modo che non si rialzino più; essi cadranno sotto i miei piedi.
40 You have girded me with strength for the fight, bent down my assailants beneath me,	40 Tu mi hai cinto di forza per le tue battaglie, hai fatto piegare sotto di me quelli che mi resistevano,
41 made my enemies retreat before me; and those who hate me I destroy.	41 hai fatto voltar le spalle ai miei nemici, a coloro che mi odiano, ed io li sperderò.
42 They cry out, there is no one to save, to Yahweh, but no answer comes.	42 Grideranno, ma non vi sarà chi li salvi; alzeranno la voce al Signore, ma non li esaudirà.
43 I crumble them like the dust of the squares, trample them like the mud of the streets.	43 Li disperderò come polvere della terra, li calpesterò e li schiaccerò come fango delle piazze.
44 You free me from the quarrels of my people, you place me at the head of the nations, a people I didnot know are now my servants,	44 Tu mi salverai dalle rivolte del mio popolo, mi conserverai a capo delle nazioni, un popolo da me ignorato mi servirà.
45 foreigners come wooing my favour, no sooner do they hear than they obey me,	45 I figli stranieri mi faran resistenza, ma dopo aver ascoltato, ubbidiranno;
46 foreigners grow faint of heart, they come trembling out of their fastnesses.	46 i figli stranieri si son dispersi e si ritiran nelle loro fortezze.
47 Life to Yahweh! Blessed be my rock! Exalted be the God of my salvation,	47 Viva il Signore e benedetto il mio Dio! Sarà esaltato il Dio forte della mia salvezza!
48 the God who gives me vengeance and crushes the peoples under me,	48 Sei tu, o Dio, quello che fai le mie vendette, quello che mi assoggetti i popoli,
49 who takes me away from my enemies. You lift me high above those who attack me, you deliver mefrom the man of violence.	49 che mi liberi dai miei nemici e mi rialzi sopra coloro che mi resistono: Tu mi libererai dall'uomo iniquo.
50 For this I wil praise you, Yahweh, among the nations, and sing praise to your name.	50 Per questo ti loderò, o Signore, tra le genti, e canterò al tuo nome: sia lui che esalta le vittorie del suo re, fa misericordia al suo cristo David e alla sua stirpe in sempiterno ».
51 He saves his king, time after time, displays faithful love for his anointed, for David and his heirs forever.
