NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 After this, when the king of the Ammonites died and his son Hanun succeeded him,	1 ORA, dopo queste cose, avvenne che il re de’ figliuoli di Ammon morì; ed Hanun, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.
2 David thought, 'I shal show Hanun son of Nahash the same faithful love as his father showed me.'And David sent his representatives to offer him condolences over his father. But, when David's representativesreached the Ammonites' country,	2 E Davide disse: Io userò benignità inverso Hanun, figliuolo di Nahas come suo padre usò benignità inverso me. E Davide mandò a consolarlo di suo padre, per li suoi servitori. Ma, quando i servitori di Davide furono giunti nel paese de’ figliuoli di Ammon,
3 the Ammonite princes said to Hanun their master, 'Do you really think David means to honour yourfather when he sends you messengers with sympathy? On the contrary, the reason why David has sent hisrepresentatives to you is to explore the city, to reconnoitre and so overthrow it.'	3 i principali de’ figliuoli di Ammon dissero ad Hanun, lor signore: Parti che ciò, che Davide ti ha mandati de’ consolatori, sia per onorar tuo padre? non ti ha egli mandati i suoi servitori, per investigar la città, e per ispiarla, e per sovvertirla?
4 Whereupon Hanun seized David's representatives, shaved off half their beards, cut their clothes offhalfway up, at their buttocks, and sent them away.	4 Hanun adunque prese i servitori di Davide, e fece lor radere mezza la barba, e tagliare i vestimenti per lo mezzo fino alle natiche; poi li rimandò.
5 When David was told, he sent someone to meet them, since the men were overcome with shame.'Stay in Jericho', the king said, 'until your beards have grown again, and come back then.'	5 Ed essi fecero assaper la cosa al re Davide; ed egli mandò loro incontro; perciocchè quegli uomini erano grandemente confusi. E il re fece lor dire: Dimorate in Gerico, finchè la barba vi sia ricresciuta; poi ve ne ritornerete
6 When the Ammonites realised that they had antagonised David, they sent agents to hire twentythousand foot soldiers from the Aramaeans of Beth-Rehob and the Aramaeans of Zobah, one thousand menfrom the king of Maacah and twelve thousand men from the prince of Tob.	6 Or i figliuoli di Ammon, veggendo che si erano renduti abbominevoli a Davide, mandarono ad assoldare ventimila uomini a piè, de’ Siri di Bet-rehob, e dei Siri di Soba; e mille uomini del re di Maaca, e dodicimila di que’ di Tob.
7 When David heard this, he sent Joab with the whole army, the champions.	7 E Davide, avendo ciò inteso, mandò contro a loro Ioab, con tutto l’esercito della gente di valore.
8 The Ammonites marched out and drew up their line of battle at the city gate, while the Aramaeans ofZobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah kept their distance in the open country.	8 E gli Ammoniti uscirono in campagna, e ordinarono la battaglia in su l’entrata della porta della città, ed i Siri di Soba e di Rehob, e la gente di Tob e di Maaca, stavano da parte nella campagna.
9 Joab, seeing that he had to fight on two fronts, to his front and to his rear, chose the best of Israel'spicked men and drew them up in line facing the Aramaeans.	9 E Ioab, veggendo che la battaglia era volta contro a lui, davanti e dietro, fece una cernita d’infra tutti gli uomini scelti d’Israele, ed ordinò quelli contro a’ Siri.
10 He entrusted the rest of the army to his brother Abishai, and drew them up in line facing theAmmonites.	10 E diede a condurre il rimanente della gente ad Abisai, suo fratello, e l’ordinò contro a’ figliuoli di Ammon; e disse ad Abisai:
11 'If the Aramaeans prove too strong for me,' he said, 'you must come to my help; if the Ammonitesprove too strong for you, I shal come to yours.	11 Se i Siri mi superano, soccorrimi; se i figliuoli di Ammon altresì ti superano, io ti soccorrerò.
12 Be brave! Let us acquit ourselves like men for the sake of our people and for the cities of our God.And let Yahweh do as he thinks right!'	12 Fortificati, e portiamoci valorosamente per lo popolo nostro, e per le città del nostro Dio. E faccia il Signore ciò che gli parrà bene.
13 Joab and the force with him joined battle with the Aramaeans, who fled at his onslaught.	13 Allora Ioab, con la gente ch’egli avea seco, venne a battaglia contro a Siri; ed essi fuggirono d’innanzi a lui.
14 When the Ammonites saw that the Aramaeans had fled, they too fled from Abishai and withdrew intothe city. Hence, Joab broke off his campaign against the Ammonites and returned to Jerusalem.	14 E gli Ammoniti, veggendo che i Siri erano fuggiti, fuggirono anch’essi d’innanzi ad Abisai, ed entrarono dentro alla città. E Ioab se ne ritornò indietro da’ figliuoli di Ammon, e venne in Gerusalemme
15 The Aramaeans, realising that Israel had got the better of them, concentrated their forces.	15 E i Siri, veggendo ch’erano stati sconfitti da Israele, si adunarono insieme.
16 Hadadezer sent messengers and mobilised the Aramaeans living on the other side of the river; andthese arrived at Helam, with Shobach the commander of Hadadezer's army, at their head.	16 E Hadarezer mandò a far venire i Siri di là dal fiume; ed essi vennero in Helam; e Sobac, capo dell’esercito di Hadarezer, li conduceva.
17 David, being informed of this, mustered al Israel, crossed the Jordan and arrived at Helam. TheAramaeans drew up in line facing David and engaged him.	17 Ed essendo ciò rapportato a Davide, egli adunò tutto Israele, e passò il Giordano, e venne in Helam. E i Siri ordinarono la battaglia contro a Davide, e combatterono con lui.
18 But the Aramaeans fled from Israel, and David kil ed seven hundred of their chariot teams and fortythousand men; he also cut down Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.	18 Ma i Siri fuggirono d’innanzi a Israele; e Davide uccise de’ Siri la gente di settecento carri, e quarantamila uomini a cavallo; percosse eziandio Sobac, capo del loro esercito; ed egli morì quivi.
19 When al Hadadezer's vassal kings saw that Israel had got the better of them, they made peace withthe Israelites and became their subjects. The Aramaeans were afraid to give any more help to the Ammonites.	19 E tutti i re, vassalli di Hadarezer, veggendo ch’erano stati sconfitti da Israele, fecero pace con Israele, e furono loro soggetti. Ed i Siri temettero di più soccorrere i figliuoli di Ammon
