1 So Israel set out with al his possessions. Arriving at Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of hisfather Isaac.	1 - Partito Israele con tutto quello che aveva, venne al "Pozzo del giuramento"; ivi, offerte vittime al Dio del padre suo Isacco,
2 God spoke to Israel in a vision at night, 'Jacob, Jacob,' he said. 'Here I am,' he replied.	2 lo udì in una visione notturna, che lo chiamava e gli diceva: «Giacobbe, Giacobbe!». Al quale rispose: «Eccomi».
3 'I am El, God of your father,' he said. 'Do not be afraid of going down to Egypt, for I will make you intoa great nation there.	3 E Dio gli disse: «Io sono il Dio fortissimo del padre tuo; non temere, va' pure in Egitto, che ivi farò uscire da te un gran popolo.
4 I shal go down to Egypt with you and I myself shall bring you back again, and Joseph's hand wilclose your eyes.'	4 Io ti accompagnerò là, e di là ti riaccompagnerò, e Giuseppe con le sue mani ti chiuderà gli occhi».
5 So Jacob left Beersheba. Israel's sons conveyed their father Jacob, their little children and their wivesin the waggons Pharaoh had sent to fetch him.	5 Si mosse dunque Giacobbe dal "Pozzo del giuramento", ed i suoi figli lo posero coi bambini e con le mogli sui carri mandati dal Faraone per trasportare il vecchio
6 Taking their livestock and all that they had acquired in Canaan, they arrived in Egypt -- Jacob and alhis offspring.	6 e tutte le sostanze che aveva nella terra di Canaan. E giunse in Egitto con tutta la sua figliolanza,
7 With him to Egypt, he brought his sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters -- al hisoffspring.	7 figli e nipoti e figlie, e tutta la sua discendenza.
8 These were the names of the Israelites, Jacob and his descendants, who arrived in Egypt: Reuben,Jacob's first-born,	8 Ecco ora i nomi dei figli di Israele che entrarono in Egitto, quando vi entrò co' figli suoi. Il primogenito, Ruben.

28 Israel sent Judah ahead to Joseph, so that Judah might present himself to Joseph in Goshen. Whenthey arrived in Goshen,	28 Ora Giacobbe mandò avanti a sè Giuda a Giuseppe, ad avvisarlo, perchè gli venisse incontro in Gessen.
29 Joseph had his chariot made ready and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as heappeared he threw his arms round his neck and for a long time wept on his shoulder.	29 Giunto che vi fu, Giuseppe fece attaccare il suo cocchio, e salì incontro al padre nello stesso luogo. Vistolo, gli si buttò al collo, e tra gli abbracci piangeva.
30 Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I can die, now that I have seen you in person and seen you stil alive.'	30 Disse il padre a Giuseppe: «Ora morirò contento, perchè ho potuto rivederti, e ti lascio in vita dietro a me».
31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and his father's family, 'I shall go back and break the news toPharaoh. I shall tel him, "My brothers and my father's family who were in Canaan have come to me.	31 Ed egli disse ai fratelli, ed a tutta la casa del padre suo: «Andrò, e racconterò al Faraone, e gli dirò: - I miei fratelli e la famiglia del padre mio, che erano nella terra di Canaan, son venuti a me;
32 The men are shepherds and look after livestock, and they have brought their flocks and cattle and altheir possessions."	32 son pastori di pecore, e s'occupavano di pascere i greggi; hanno portato con sè gli animali loro e gli armenti, e tutto quel che potevano avere. -
33 Thus, when Pharaoh summons you and asks, "What is your occupation?",	33 Quando poi vi chiamerà, e vi domanderà qual è il vostro mestiere,
34 you are to say, "Ever since our boyhood your servants have looked after livestock, we and ourfathers before us," so that you can stay in the Goshen region -- for the Egyptians have a horror of al shepherds.'	34 risponderete: - Noi tuoi servi siamo pastori, dalla nostra fanciullezza sino ad oggi, noi ed i padri nostri. - Così direte, acciò possiate rimanere nella terra di Gessen; perchè gli Egiziani detestano tutti i pastori di greggi».
