Genesis 46

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 So Israel set out with al his possessions. Arriving at Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of hisfather Isaac.	1 Profectusque Israel cum omnibus, quae habebat, venit Bersabee et, mactatis ibi victimis Deo patris sui Isaac,
2 God spoke to Israel in a vision at night, 'Jacob, Jacob,' he said. 'Here I am,' he replied.	2 audivit eum per visionem noctis vocantem se: “ Iacob, Iacob! ”. Cui respondit: “ Ecce adsum! ”.
3 'I am El, God of your father,' he said. 'Do not be afraid of going down to Egypt, for I will make you intoa great nation there.	3 Ait illi: “ Ego sum Deus, Deus patris tui. Noli timere descendere in Aegyptum, quia in gentem magnam faciam te ibi.
4 I shal go down to Egypt with you and I myself shall bring you back again, and Joseph's hand wilclose your eyes.'	4 Ego descendam tecum illuc et ego inde adducam te revertentem; Ioseph quoque ponet manus suas super oculos tuos ”.
5 So Jacob left Beersheba. Israel's sons conveyed their father Jacob, their little children and their wivesin the waggons Pharaoh had sent to fetch him.	5 Surrexit igitur Iacob a Bersabee, tuleruntque eum filii cum parvulis et uxoribus suis in plaustris, quae miserat pharao ad portandum senem,
6 Taking their livestock and all that they had acquired in Canaan, they arrived in Egypt -- Jacob and alhis offspring.	6 sumpserunt quoque omnia, quae possederant in terra Chanaan; veneruntque in Aegyptum Iacob et omne semen eius,
7 With him to Egypt, he brought his sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters -- al hisoffspring.	7 filii eius et nepotes, filiae et cuncta simul progenies.
8 These were the names of the Israelites, Jacob and his descendants, who arrived in Egypt: Reuben,Jacob's first-born,	8 Haec sunt autem nomina filiorum Israel, qui ingressi sunt in Aegyptum, ipse cum liberis suis. Primogenitus Ruben.
9 and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pal u, Hezron and Carmi.	9 Filii Ruben: Henoch et Phallu et Hesron et Charmi.
10 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of the Canaanitewoman.	10 Filii Simeon: Iamuel et Iamin et Ahod et Iachin et Sohar et Saul filius Chananitidis.
11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.	11 Filii Levi: Gerson et Caath et Merari.
12 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (Er and Onan had died in Canaan), andHezron and Hamul sons of Perez.	12 Filii Iudae: Her et Onan et Sela et Phares et Zara. Mortui sunt autem Her et Onan in terra Chanaan. Natique sunt filii Phares: Esrom et Hamul.
13 The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvah, Jashub and Shimron.	13 Filii Issachar: Thola et Phua et Iasub et Semron.
14 The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon and Jahleel.	14 Filii Zabulon: Sared et Elon et Iahelel.
15 These were the sons that Leah had borne to Jacob in Paddan-Aram, besides his daughter Dinah; inal , his sons and daughters numbered thirty-three.	15 Hi filii Liae, quos genuit in Paddanaram, cum Dina filia sua. Omnes animae filiorum eius et filiarum triginta tres.
16 The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli.	16 Filii Gad: Sephon et Haggi, Suni et Esebon, Heri et Arodi et Areli.
17 The sons of Asher: Jimnah, Jishvah, Jishvi, Beriah, with their sister Serah; the sons of Beriah: Heberand Malchiel.	17 Filii Aser: Iemna et lesua et Isui et Beria, Sara quoque soror eorum. Filii Beria: Heber et Melchiel.
18 These were the sons of Zilpah whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; she bore these to Jacob --sixteen persons.	18 Hi filii Zelphae, quam dedit Laban Liae filiae suae; et hos genuit Iacob: sedecim animas.
19 The sons of Rachel wife of Jacob: Joseph and Benjamin.	19 Filii Rachel uxoris Iacob: Ioseph et Beniamin.
20 Born to Joseph in Egypt were: Manasseh and Ephraim sons of Asenath, daughter of Potiphera priestof On.	20 Natique sunt Ioseph filii in terra Aegypti, quos genuit ei Aseneth filia Putiphare sacerdotis Heliopoleos: Manasses et Ephraim.
21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard.	21 Filii Beniamin: Bela et Bochor et Asbel, Gera et Naaman et Echi et Ros, Mophim et Huphim et Ared.
22 These were the sons that Rachel bore to Jacob -- fourteen persons in al .	22 Hi filii Rachel, quos genuit Iacob: omnes animae quattuordecim.
23 The sons of Dan: Hushim.	23 Filii Dan: Husim.
24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer and Shil em.	24 Filii Nephthali: Iasiel et Guni et Ieser et Sellem.
25 These were the sons of Bilhah whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel; she bore these to Jacob --seven persons in all.	25 Hi filii Bilhae, quam dedit Laban Racheli filiae suae; et hos genuit Iacob: omnes animae septem.
26 Altogether, the members of Jacob's family who arrived with him in Egypt -- his own issue, notcounting the wives of Jacob's sons -- numbered sixty-six all told.	26 Cunctae animae, quae ingressae sunt cum Iacob in Aegyptum et egressae de femore illius, absque uxoribus filiorum eius, sexaginta sex.
27 With Joseph's sons born to him in Egypt -- two persons -- the members of Jacob's family who wentto Egypt totalled seventy.	27 Filii autem Ioseph, qui nati sunt ei in terra Aegypti, animae duae. Omnes animae domus Iacob, quae ingressae sunt in Aegyptum, fuere septuaginta.
28 Israel sent Judah ahead to Joseph, so that Judah might present himself to Joseph in Goshen. Whenthey arrived in Goshen,	28 Misit autem Iudam ante se ad Ioseph, ut nuntiaret et occurreret in Gessen.
29 Joseph had his chariot made ready and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as heappeared he threw his arms round his neck and for a long time wept on his shoulder.	29 Et venerunt in terram Gessen. Iunctoque Ioseph curru suo, ascendit obviam patri suo in Gessen; vidensque eum irruit super collum eius et inter amplexus diu flevit.
30 Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I can die, now that I have seen you in person and seen you stil alive.'	30 Dixitque Israel ad Ioseph: “ Iam laetus moriar, quia vidi faciem tuam et superstitem te relinquo ”.
31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and his father's family, 'I shall go back and break the news toPharaoh. I shall tel him, "My brothers and my father's family who were in Canaan have come to me.	31 Et ille locutus est ad fratres suos et ad omnem domum patris sui: “ Ascendam et nuntiabo pharaoni dicamque ei: Fratres mei et domus patris mei, qui erant in terra Chanaan, venerunt ad me.
32 The men are shepherds and look after livestock, and they have brought their flocks and cattle and altheir possessions."	32 Et sunt viri pastores ovium curamque habent alendorum gregum; pecora sua et armenta et omnia, quae habere potuerunt, adduxerunt secum.
33 Thus, when Pharaoh summons you and asks, "What is your occupation?",	33 Cumque vocaverit vos et dixerit: "Quod est opus vestrum?".
34 you are to say, "Ever since our boyhood your servants have looked after livestock, we and ourfathers before us," so that you can stay in the Goshen region -- for the Egyptians have a horror of al shepherds.'	34 Respondebitis: "Viri pastores sumus servi tui ab infantia nostra usque in praesens et nos et patres nostri". Haec autem dicetis, ut habitare possitis in terra Gessen, quia detestantur Aegyptii omnes pastores ovium ”.
