1 It happened some time later that the king of Egypt's cup-bearer and his baker offended their masterthe king of Egypt.	1 Or dopo queste cose avvenne che due eunuchi del re d'Egitto, il coppiere e il panettiere, peccarono contro Faraone, loro signoresche,
2 Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,	2 sdegnato contro di essi (contro il capo dei coppieri e il capo dei panettieri),
3 and put them in custody in the house of the commander of the guard, in the gaol where Joseph was aprisoner.	3 li fece mettere nella prigione del capitano delle milizie, dove era rinchiuso anche Giuseppe.
4 The commander of the guard assigned Joseph to them to attend to their wants, and they remained incustody for some time.	4 E il custode della prigione li consegnò a Giuseppe, che di più li serviva. Era passato un certo tempo, dacché erano chiusi in prigione,
5 Now both of them had dreams on the same night, each with its own meaning for the cup-bearer andthe baker of the king of Egypt, who were prisoners in the gaol.	5 quando ambedue, nella stessa notte, ebbero un sogno che, per la sua interpretazione, si riferiva a loro.
6 When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they looked gloomy,	6 Or Giuseppe, essendo andato da loro la mattina, ed avendoli trovati malinconici,
7 and he asked the two officials who were in custody with him in his master's house, 'Why these sadlooks today?'	7 chiese loro: «Per qual motivo oggi avete la faccia più afflitta del solito? »
8 They replied, 'We have each had a dream, but there is no one to interpret it.' 'Are not interpretationsGod's business?' Joseph asked them. 'Tel me about them.'	8 Ed essi risposero: « Abbiamo fatto un sogno, e non c'è chi ce lo interpreti ». E Giuseppe a loro: «Non appartiene forse a Dio l'interpretazione? Su, ditemi quel che avete veduto ».
9 So the chief cup-bearer described his dream to Joseph, tel ing him, 'In my dream there was a vine infront of me.	9 Il gran coppiere, raccontando per il primo il suo sogno, disse: « Io vedevo davanti a me una vite
10 On the vine were three branches; no sooner had it budded than it blossomed, and its clustersbecame ripe grapes.	10 con tre tralci, che gettava a poco a poco le gemme, e i fiori, e poi maturava le uve;
11 I had Pharaoh's cup in my hand; I picked the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup, and putthe cup into Pharaoh's hand.'	11 avendo in mano la coppa di Faraone, io presi le uve, le spremetti nella coppa che aveva in mano, e presentai da bere a Faraone ».
12 'This is what it means,' Joseph told him. 'The three branches are three days.	12 Giuseppe rispose: «La spiegazione del sogno è questa: I tre tralci significano tre giorni,
13 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by restoring you to your position. Then you wilhand Pharaoh his cup, as you did before, when you were his cup-bearer.	13 dopo i quali Faraone si ricorderà dei tuoi servigi, e ti ristabilirà nel tuo posto di prima, e, secondo il tuo ufficio, gli presenterai la coppa, come per l'avanti solevi fare.
14 But be sure to remember me when things go wel with you, and keep faith with me by kindlyreminding Pharaoh about me, to get me out of this house.	14 Ma allora, quando sarai felice, ricordati di me, e usandomi misericordia, sollecita Faraone a togliermi da questo carcere,
15 I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews in the first place, and even here I have done nothingto warrant being put in the dungeon.'	15 perchè con frode fui portato via dalla terra degli Ebrei, e innocente fui gettato in questa fossa ».
16 The chief baker, seeing that the interpretation had been favourable, said to Joseph, 'I too had adream; there were three wicker trays on my head.	16 Allora il capo dei panettieri, vedendo come egli avesse interpretato saggiamente quel sogno, disse: « Anch'io ho fatto un sogno, e mi pareva d'avere sul capo tre canestri di paste,
17 In the top tray there were al kinds of pastries for Pharaoh, such as a baker might make, and thebirds were eating them off the tray on my head.'	17 e di portare nel canestro più alto ogni sorta di vivande che soglion fare i panettieri, e che gli uccelli ne mangiassero ».
18 Joseph replied as fol ows, 'This is what it means: the three trays are three days.	18 Giuseppe rispose: « Ecco la spiegazione del sogno: I tre canestri sono tre giorni,
19 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by hanging you on a gallows, and the birds willeat the flesh off your bones.'	19 dopo i quali Faraone ti farà tagliare il capo e ti farà appendere al patibolo, e gli uccelli mangeranno le tue carni ».
20 And so it happened; the third day was Pharaoh's birthday and he gave a banquet for al his officials.Of his officials he lifted up the head of the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,	20 Tre giorni dopo, essendo il suo giorno natalizio, Faraone, mentre faceva un gran convito ai suoi servi, si ricordò a mensa del capo dei coppieri e del capo dei panettieri;
21 the chief cup-bearer by restoring him to his cup-bearing, so that he again handed Pharaoh his cup;	21 e restituì al primo il suo ufficio di presentargli la coppa,
22 and by hanging the chief baker, as Joseph had explained to them.	22 e fece appiccare il secondo ad un patibolo, e così fu dimostrata la veracità dell'interprete.
23 But the chief cup-bearer did not remember Joseph; he had forgotten him.	23 Ma il gran coppiere, ritornato felice, non si ricordò del suo interprete.
