Genesis 40

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 It happened some time later that the king of Egypt's cup-bearer and his baker offended their masterthe king of Egypt.	1 Dopo questi fatti il coppiere del re d’Egitto e il panettiere offesero il loro padrone, il re d’Egitto.
2 Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,	2 Il faraone si adirò contro i suoi due eunuchi, il capo dei coppieri e il capo dei panettieri,
3 and put them in custody in the house of the commander of the guard, in the gaol where Joseph was aprisoner.	3 e li fece mettere in custodia nella casa del comandante delle guardie, nella prigione dove Giuseppe era detenuto.
4 The commander of the guard assigned Joseph to them to attend to their wants, and they remained incustody for some time.	4 Il comandante delle guardie assegnò loro Giuseppe, perché li accudisse. Così essi restarono nel carcere per un certo tempo.
5 Now both of them had dreams on the same night, each with its own meaning for the cup-bearer andthe baker of the king of Egypt, who were prisoners in the gaol.	5 Ora, in una medesima notte, il coppiere e il panettiere del re d’Egitto, detenuti nella prigione, ebbero tutti e due un sogno, ciascuno il suo sogno, con un proprio significato.
6 When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they looked gloomy,	6 Alla mattina Giuseppe venne da loro e li vide abbattuti.
7 and he asked the two officials who were in custody with him in his master's house, 'Why these sadlooks today?'	7 Allora interrogò gli eunuchi del faraone che erano con lui in carcere nella casa del suo padrone, e disse: «Perché oggi avete la faccia così triste?».
8 They replied, 'We have each had a dream, but there is no one to interpret it.' 'Are not interpretationsGod's business?' Joseph asked them. 'Tel me about them.'	8 Gli risposero: «Abbiamo fatto un sogno e non c’è chi lo interpreti». Giuseppe replicò loro: «Non è forse Dio che ha in suo potere le interpretazioni? Raccontatemi dunque».
9 So the chief cup-bearer described his dream to Joseph, tel ing him, 'In my dream there was a vine infront of me.	9 Allora il capo dei coppieri raccontò il suo sogno a Giuseppe e gli disse: «Nel mio sogno, ecco mi stava davanti una vite,
10 On the vine were three branches; no sooner had it budded than it blossomed, and its clustersbecame ripe grapes.	10 sulla quale vi erano tre tralci; non appena cominciò a germogliare, apparvero i fiori e i suoi grappoli maturarono gli acini.
11 I had Pharaoh's cup in my hand; I picked the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup, and putthe cup into Pharaoh's hand.'	11 Io tenevo in mano il calice del faraone; presi gli acini, li spremetti nella coppa del faraone, poi diedi la coppa in mano al faraone».
12 'This is what it means,' Joseph told him. 'The three branches are three days.	12 Giuseppe gli disse: «Eccone l’interpretazione: i tre tralci rappresentano tre giorni.
13 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by restoring you to your position. Then you wilhand Pharaoh his cup, as you did before, when you were his cup-bearer.	13 Fra tre giorni il faraone solleverà la tua testa e ti reintegrerà nella tua carica e tu porgerai il calice al faraone, secondo la consuetudine di prima, quando eri il suo coppiere.
14 But be sure to remember me when things go wel with you, and keep faith with me by kindlyreminding Pharaoh about me, to get me out of this house.	14 Se poi, nella tua fortuna, volessi ricordarti che sono stato con te, trattami, ti prego, con bontà: ricordami al faraone per farmi uscire da questa casa.
15 I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews in the first place, and even here I have done nothingto warrant being put in the dungeon.'	15 Perché io sono stato portato via ingiustamente dalla terra degli Ebrei e anche qui non ho fatto nulla perché mi mettessero in questo sotterraneo».
16 The chief baker, seeing that the interpretation had been favourable, said to Joseph, 'I too had adream; there were three wicker trays on my head.	16 Allora il capo dei panettieri, vedendo che l’interpretazione era favorevole, disse a Giuseppe: «Quanto a me, nel mio sogno tenevo sul capo tre canestri di pane bianco
17 In the top tray there were al kinds of pastries for Pharaoh, such as a baker might make, and thebirds were eating them off the tray on my head.'	17 e nel canestro che stava di sopra c’era ogni sorta di cibi per il faraone, quali si preparano dai panettieri. Ma gli uccelli li mangiavano dal canestro che avevo sulla testa».
18 Joseph replied as fol ows, 'This is what it means: the three trays are three days.	18 Giuseppe rispose e disse: «Questa è l’interpretazione: i tre canestri rappresentano tre giorni.
19 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by hanging you on a gallows, and the birds willeat the flesh off your bones.'	19 Fra tre giorni il faraone solleverà la tua testa e ti impiccherà a un palo e gli uccelli ti mangeranno la carne addosso».
20 And so it happened; the third day was Pharaoh's birthday and he gave a banquet for al his officials.Of his officials he lifted up the head of the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,	20 Appunto al terzo giorno, che era il giorno natalizio del faraone, questi fece un banchetto per tutti i suoi ministri e allora sollevò la testa del capo dei coppieri e la testa del capo dei panettieri in mezzo ai suoi ministri.
21 the chief cup-bearer by restoring him to his cup-bearing, so that he again handed Pharaoh his cup;	21 Reintegrò il capo dei coppieri nel suo ufficio di coppiere, perché porgesse la coppa al faraone;
22 and by hanging the chief baker, as Joseph had explained to them.	22 invece impiccò il capo dei panettieri, secondo l’interpretazione che Giuseppe aveva loro data.
23 But the chief cup-bearer did not remember Joseph; he had forgotten him.	23 Ma il capo dei coppieri non si ricordò di Giuseppe e lo dimenticò.
