Genesis 40

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 It happened some time later that the king of Egypt's cup-bearer and his baker offended their masterthe king of Egypt.	1 Después de estas cosas sucedió que el escanciador y el panadero del rey de Egipto ofendieron a su señor, el rey de Egipto.
2 Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,	2 Faraón se enojó contra sus dos eunucos, contra el jefe de los escanciadores y el jefe de los panaderos,
3 and put them in custody in the house of the commander of the guard, in the gaol where Joseph was aprisoner.	3 y les puso bajo la custodia en casa del jefe de los guardias, en prisión, en el lugar donde estaba detenido José.
4 The commander of the guard assigned Joseph to them to attend to their wants, and they remained incustody for some time.	4 El jefe de los guardias encargó de ellos a José, para que les sirviese. Así pasaban los días en presidio.
5 Now both of them had dreams on the same night, each with its own meaning for the cup-bearer andthe baker of the king of Egypt, who were prisoners in the gaol.	5 Aconteció que ambos soñaron sendos sueños en una misma noche, cada cual con su sentido propio: el escanciador y el panadero del rey de Egipto que estaban detenidos en la prisión.
6 When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they looked gloomy,	6 José vino a ellos por la mañana, y los encontró preocupados.
7 and he asked the two officials who were in custody with him in his master's house, 'Why these sadlooks today?'	7 Preguntó, pues, a los eunucos de Faraón, que estaban con él en presidio en casa de su señor: «¿Por qué tenéis hoy mala cara?»
8 They replied, 'We have each had a dream, but there is no one to interpret it.' 'Are not interpretationsGod's business?' Joseph asked them. 'Tel me about them.'	8 «Hemos soñado un sueño - le dijeron - y no hay quien lo interprete.» José les dijo: «¿No son de Dios los sentidos ocultos? Vamos, contádmelo a mí.»
9 So the chief cup-bearer described his dream to Joseph, tel ing him, 'In my dream there was a vine infront of me.	9 El jefe de los escanciadores contó su sueño a José y le dijo: «Voy con mi sueño. Resulta que yo tenía delante una cepa,
10 On the vine were three branches; no sooner had it budded than it blossomed, and its clustersbecame ripe grapes.	10 y en la cepa tres sarmientos, que nada más echar yemas, florecían enseguida y maduraban las uvas en sus racimos.
11 I had Pharaoh's cup in my hand; I picked the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup, and putthe cup into Pharaoh's hand.'	11 Yo tenía en la mano la copa de Faraón, y tomando aquellas uvas, las exprimía en la copa de Faraón, y ponía la copa en la mano de Faraón.»
12 'This is what it means,' Joseph told him. 'The three branches are three days.	12 José dijo: «Esta es la interpretación: los tres sarmientos, son tres días.
13 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by restoring you to your position. Then you wilhand Pharaoh his cup, as you did before, when you were his cup-bearer.	13 Dentro de tres días levantará Faraón tu cabeza: te devolverá a tu cargo, y pondrás la copa de Faraón en su mano, lo mismo que antes, cuando eras su escanciador.
14 But be sure to remember me when things go wel with you, and keep faith with me by kindlyreminding Pharaoh about me, to get me out of this house.	14 A ver si te acuerdas de mí cuando te vaya bien, y me haces el favor de hablar de mí a Faraón para que me saque de esta casa.
15 I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews in the first place, and even here I have done nothingto warrant being put in the dungeon.'	15 Pues fui raptado del país de los hebreos, y por lo demás, tampoco aquí hice nada para que me metieran en el pozo.»
16 The chief baker, seeing that the interpretation had been favourable, said to Joseph, 'I too had adream; there were three wicker trays on my head.	16 Vio el jefe panaderos que era buena la interpretación y dijo a José: «Voy con mi sueño: Había tres cestas de pan candeal sobre mi cabeza.
17 In the top tray there were al kinds of pastries for Pharaoh, such as a baker might make, and thebirds were eating them off the tray on my head.'	17 En la cesta de arriba había de todo lo que come Faraón de panadería, pero los pájaros se lo comían de la cesta, de encima de mi cabeza.»
18 Joseph replied as fol ows, 'This is what it means: the three trays are three days.	18 Respondió José: «Esta es su interpretación. Las tres cestas, son tres días.
19 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by hanging you on a gallows, and the birds willeat the flesh off your bones.'	19 A vuelta de tres días levantará Faraón tu cabeza y te colgará en un madero, y las aves se comerán la carne que te cubre.»
20 And so it happened; the third day was Pharaoh's birthday and he gave a banquet for al his officials.Of his officials he lifted up the head of the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,	20 Al tercer día, que era el natalicio de Faraón, dio éste un banquete para todos sus servidores, y levantó la cabeza del jefe de escanciadores y la del jefe de panaderos en presencia de sus siervos.
21 the chief cup-bearer by restoring him to his cup-bearing, so that he again handed Pharaoh his cup;	21 Al jefe de escanciadores le restituyó en su oficio, y volvió a poner la copa en manos de Faraón.
22 and by hanging the chief baker, as Joseph had explained to them.	22 En cuanto al jefe de panaderos, le colgó: tal y como les había interpretado José.
23 But the chief cup-bearer did not remember Joseph; he had forgotten him.	23 Pero el jefe de escanciadores no se acordó de José, sino que le echó en olvido.
