Genesis 40

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 It happened some time later that the king of Egypt's cup-bearer and his baker offended their masterthe king of Egypt.	1 Dopo queste cose, il coppiere del re d'Egitto e il panettiere offesero il loro padrone, il re di Egitto.
2 Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,	2 Il faraone si adirò contro i suoi due eunuchi, contro il capo-coppiere e contro il capo-panettiere,
3 and put them in custody in the house of the commander of the guard, in the gaol where Joseph was aprisoner.	3 e li fece mettere in residenza forzata nella casa del capo-cuoco, nella stessa prigione dove Giuseppe era detenuto.
4 The commander of the guard assigned Joseph to them to attend to their wants, and they remained incustody for some time.	4 E il capo-cuoco incaricò di loro Giuseppe, perché li servisse. Così essi restarono nella residenza forzata per un certo tempo.
5 Now both of them had dreams on the same night, each with its own meaning for the cup-bearer andthe baker of the king of Egypt, who were prisoners in the gaol.	5 Ora in una medesima notte il coppiere e il panettiere del re di Egitto, ch'erano detenuti nella prigione, ebbero ambedue un sogno, ciascuno il suo sogno, e ciascun sogno aveva il suo significato particolare.
6 When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they looked gloomy,	6 Alla mattina, Giuseppe venne da loro e li trovò conturbati.
7 and he asked the two officials who were in custody with him in his master's house, 'Why these sadlooks today?'	7 Allora interrogò gli eunuchi del faraone che erano con lui nella residenza forzata della casa del suo padrone, e disse: "Come mai quest'oggi avete un volto così brutto?".
8 They replied, 'We have each had a dream, but there is no one to interpret it.' 'Are not interpretationsGod's business?' Joseph asked them. 'Tel me about them.'	8 Gli risposero: "Abbiamo fatto un sogno e non c'è chi lo interpreti". Giuseppe disse loro: "Non è forse Dio che ha in suo potere le interpretazioni? Raccontatemi, vi prego".
9 So the chief cup-bearer described his dream to Joseph, tel ing him, 'In my dream there was a vine infront of me.	9 Allora il capo-coppiere raccontò il suo sogno a Giuseppe e disse: "Nel mio sogno, ecco che mi stava davanti una vite,
10 On the vine were three branches; no sooner had it budded than it blossomed, and its clustersbecame ripe grapes.	10 e in quella vite vi erano tre tralci, e non appena essa incominciò a germogliare, subito apparvero i fiori, e i suoi grappoli portarono a maturazione gli acini.
11 I had Pharaoh's cup in my hand; I picked the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup, and putthe cup into Pharaoh's hand.'	11 Io avevo in mano la coppa del faraone; presi gli acini, li spremetti nel calice del faraone e diedi il calice in mano al faraone".
12 'This is what it means,' Joseph told him. 'The three branches are three days.	12 Giuseppe gli disse: "Questa è la sua interpretazione: i tre tralci sono tre giorni.
13 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by restoring you to your position. Then you wilhand Pharaoh his cup, as you did before, when you were his cup-bearer.	13 Dopo tre giorni il faraone solleverà la tua testa e ti restituirà nella tua carica, e tu porgerai la coppa in mano del faraone, secondo la consuetudine di prima, quando eri il suo coppiere.
14 But be sure to remember me when things go wel with you, and keep faith with me by kindlyreminding Pharaoh about me, to get me out of this house.	14 Ma tu ti vorrai ricordare di me quando sarai felice? Fammi, ti prego, questo atto di benevolenza, ricordami al faraone e fammi uscire da questa casa.
15 I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews in the first place, and even here I have done nothingto warrant being put in the dungeon.'	15 Perché io sono stato portato via furtivamente dal paese degli Ebrei, e anche qui non ho fatto nulla perché mi mettessero in questa fossa".
16 The chief baker, seeing that the interpretation had been favourable, said to Joseph, 'I too had adream; there were three wicker trays on my head.	16 Allora il capo-panettiere, vedendo che aveva interpretato in senso favorevole, disse a Giuseppe: "Quanto a me, nel mio sogno, ecco che mi stavano sulla testa tre canestri di pan bianco,
17 In the top tray there were al kinds of pastries for Pharaoh, such as a baker might make, and thebirds were eating them off the tray on my head.'	17 e nel canestro che stava di sopra vi era per il faraone ogni sorta di cibi, quali si preparano dai panettieri. Ma gli uccelli li mangiavano dal canestro che avevo sulla testa".
18 Joseph replied as fol ows, 'This is what it means: the three trays are three days.	18 Giuseppe rispose e disse: "Questa è la sua interpretazione: i tre canestri sono tre giorni.
19 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by hanging you on a gallows, and the birds willeat the flesh off your bones.'	19 Dopo tre giorni il faraone spiccherà la tua testa dalle tue spalle, poi ti impiccherà ad un palo, e gli uccelli ti mangeranno le carni addosso".
20 And so it happened; the third day was Pharaoh's birthday and he gave a banquet for al his officials.Of his officials he lifted up the head of the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,	20 Effettivamente il terzo giorno, giorno natalizio del faraone, egli fece un convito a tutti i suoi ministri, ed allora sollevò la testa del capo-coppiere e la testa del capo-panettiere in mezzo ai suoi ministri.
21 the chief cup-bearer by restoring him to his cup-bearing, so that he again handed Pharaoh his cup;	21 Ristabilì il capo-coppiere nel suo ufficio di coppiere, perché desse il calice in mano al faraone,
22 and by hanging the chief baker, as Joseph had explained to them.	22 e invece impiccò il capo-panettiere, conforme all'interpretazione che Giuseppe aveva loro dato.
23 But the chief cup-bearer did not remember Joseph; he had forgotten him.	23 Ma il capo-coppiere non si ricordò di Giuseppe e lo dimenticò.
