Genesis 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 The man had intercourse with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. 'I have acquireda man with the help of Yahweh,' she said.	1 Adamo poi conobbe la sua moglie Eva, la quale concepì e partorì Caino, dicendo: « Ho ottenuto un uomo coll'aiuto di Dio ».
2 She gave birth to a second child, Abel, the brother of Cain. Now Abel became a shepherd and keptflocks, while Cain tilled the soil.	2 Dipoi partorì il fratello di lui, Abele. E Abele fu pastore di pecore; Caino invece, agricoltore.
3 Time passed and Cain brought some of the produce of the soil as an offering for Yahweh,	3 Ed avvenne che dopo molto tempo Caino fece al Signore un'offerta dei frutti della terra,
4 while Abel for his part brought the first-born of his flock and some of their fat as wel . Yahweh lookedwith favour on Abel and his offering.	4 ed anche Abele offerse dei primogeniti del suo gregge e dei più grassi; ed il Signore guardò benignamente Abele ed i suoi doni;
5 But he did not look with favour on Cain and his offering, and Cain was very angry and downcast.	5 ma non volse lo sguardo a Caino e ai suoi doni. E Caino ne fu molto irritato, e il suo volto fu abbattuto.
6 Yahweh asked Cain, 'Why are you angry and downcast?	6 E il Signore gli disse: «Perchè sei irritato? e perchè hai il viso abbattuto?
7 If you are doing right, surely you ought to hold your head high! But if you are not doing right, Sin iscrouching at the door hungry to get you. You can still master him.'	7 Non è egli vero che se farai bene, avrai bene; e se farai male, il peccato sarà subito alla tua porta? Ma sotto di te sarà il desiderio di esso, e tu lo devi dominare ».
8 Cain said to his brother Abel, 'Let us go out'; and while they were in the open country, Cain set on hisbrother Abel and killed him.	8 Or Caino disse ad Abele suo fratello: «Andiamo fuori ». E quando furono nei campi, Caino saltò addosso al suo fratello Abele e lo uccise.
9 Yahweh asked Cain, 'Where is your brother Abel?' 'I do not know,' he replied. 'Am I my brother'sguardian?'	9 E il Signore disse a Caino: «Dov'è Abele tuo fratello? » Ed egli rispose: « Io non lo so: son io forse il custode di mio fratello? »
10 'What have you done?' Yahweh asked. 'Listen! Your brother's blood is crying out to me from theground.	10 E il Signore gli disse: « Che hai fatto? La voce del sangue di tuo fratello grida a me dalla terra.
11 Now be cursed and banned from the ground that has opened its mouth to receive your brother's bloodat your hands.	11 Or dunque tu sarai maledetto sopra la terra che ha aperto la sua bocca a ricevere dalla tua mano il sangue del tuo fratello.
12 When you til the ground it wil no longer yield up its strength to you. A restless wanderer you wil beon earth.'	12 Quando l'avrai lavorata, essa non ti darà i suoi frutti, e tu sarai ramingo e fuggiasco sopra la terra ».
13 Cain then said to Yahweh, 'My punishment is greater than I can bear.	13 E Caino disse al Signore: « La mia iniquità è troppo grande perchè io possa meritar perdono!
14 Look, today you drive me from the surface of the earth. I must hide from you, and be a restlesswanderer on earth. Why, whoever comes across me wil kill me!'	14 Ecco tu oggi mi scacci da questa terra, ed io starò nascosto lungi dalla tua faccia, e sarò ramingo e fuggiasco sulla terra; ma chiunque mi troverà mi ucciderà ».
15 'Very wel , then,' Yahweh replied, 'whoever kil s Cain wil suffer a sevenfold vengeance.' So Yahwehput a mark on Cain, so that no one coming across him would kil him.	15 E il Signore gli disse: « Non sarà cosi; perchè chi ucciderà Caino avrà castigo sette volte maggiore ». Pose quindi il Signore un segno su Caino, affinchè nessuno di quelli che lo incontrassero l'uccidesse.
16 Cain left Yahweh's presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.	16 E Caino, fuggito dal cospetto del Signore, andò vagabondo per la terra, e abitò nel paese che è ad oriente di Eden.
17 Cain had intercourse with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. He became thefounder of a city and gave the city the name of his son Enoch.	17 E Caino conobbe sua moglie, la quale concepì e partorì Enoc. Egli poi fabbricò una città che chiamò Enoc, dal nome del suo figliolo,
18 Enoch fathered Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael; Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushaelfathered Lamech.	18 Dipoi Enoc generò Irad, e Irad generò Maviael, e Maviael generò Matusael, e Matusael generò Lamec,
19 Lamech married two women: the name of the first was Adah and the name of the second was Zil ah.	19 il quale prese due mogli, delle quali una si chiamava Ada, e l'altra Sella.
20 Adah gave birth to Jabal: he was the ancestor of tent-dwelling herdsmen.	20 Ada partorì Iabel, che fu il padre di coloro che abitano sotto le tende e dei pastori.

23 Lamech said to his wives: Adah and Zil ah, hear my voice, wives of Lamech, listen to what I say: Ikil ed a man for wounding me, a boy for striking me.	23 E Lamec disse alle sue mogli: « Ada e Sella, ascoltate la mia voce; o mogli di Lamec, ascoltate le mie parole: Ho ucciso un uomo con una mia ferita, e un giovinetto con un mio colpo.
24 Sevenfold vengeance for Cain, but seventy-sevenfold for Lamech.	24 Se Caino sarà vendicato sette volte, Lamec sarà settantasette volte ».
25 Adam had intercourse with his wife, and she gave birth to a son whom she named Seth, 'becauseGod has granted me other offspring', she said, 'in place of Abel, since Cain has kil ed him.'	25 E Adamo conobbe ancora la sua moglie, ed essa partorì un figliolo a cui pose nome Set, dicendo: « Dio m'ha dato un altro figlio in luogo di Abele ucciso da Caino ».
26 A son was also born to Seth, and he named him Enosh. This man was the first to invoke the nameYahweh.	26 Ed anche a Set nacque un figliolo, che egli chiamò Enos. Questi cominciò ad invocare il nome del Signore.
