Genesis 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 The man had intercourse with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. 'I have acquireda man with the help of Yahweh,' she said.	1 - Ora, Adamo conobbe la moglie sua Eva, la quale concepì e partorì Caino, dicendo: «Ho ricevuto, per mezzo di Dio, un uomo».
2 She gave birth to a second child, Abel, the brother of Cain. Now Abel became a shepherd and keptflocks, while Cain tilled the soil.	2 Poi ancora partorì il fratello di lui, Abele. Abele fu pastore di pecore, e Caino agricoltore.
3 Time passed and Cain brought some of the produce of the soil as an offering for Yahweh,	3 Dopo molto tempo, avvenne che Caino offrì a Dio sacrificio dei frutti della terra;
4 while Abel for his part brought the first-born of his flock and some of their fat as wel . Yahweh lookedwith favour on Abel and his offering.	4 Abele poi offrì dei primogeniti del suo gregge, de' più grassi. Dio riguardò Abele e i suoi doni,
5 But he did not look with favour on Cain and his offering, and Cain was very angry and downcast.	5 ma non riguardò Caino e i doni di lui. Laonde Caino s'adirò grandemente, ed il volto suo s'abbattè.
6 Yahweh asked Cain, 'Why are you angry and downcast?	6 Ed il Signore gli disse: «Perchè sei adirato? Perchè abbattuto è il tuo volto?
7 If you are doing right, surely you ought to hold your head high! But if you are not doing right, Sin iscrouching at the door hungry to get you. You can still master him.'	7 Forse, se farai del bene, non anche ne riceverai? Se invece farai male, non starà subito il tuo peccato alla tua porta? Ma l'appetito tuo ti starà sottoposto, e tu potrai dominarlo».
8 Cain said to his brother Abel, 'Let us go out'; and while they were in the open country, Cain set on hisbrother Abel and killed him.	8 Disse Caino al fratello Abele: «Usciamo fuori». E come furon pei campi, Caino insorse contro il fratello Abele, e l'uccise.
9 Yahweh asked Cain, 'Where is your brother Abel?' 'I do not know,' he replied. 'Am I my brother'sguardian?'	9 Disse il Signore a Caino: «Dov'è il fratello tuo Abele?». Questi rispose: «Non lo so. Son io forse il guardiano del mio fratello?».
10 'What have you done?' Yahweh asked. 'Listen! Your brother's blood is crying out to me from theground.	10 Gli disse il Signore: «Che hai tu fatto? La voce del sangue del tuo fratello grida a me dalla terra.
11 Now be cursed and banned from the ground that has opened its mouth to receive your brother's bloodat your hands.	11 Sarai perciò d'ora in poi maledetto sulla terra, che ha aperto la bocca per ricevere il sangue del tuo fratello, versato dalla tua mano.
12 When you til the ground it wil no longer yield up its strength to you. A restless wanderer you wil beon earth.'	12 Anche se la lavorerai, non ti darà frutti; sarai ramingo e fuggiasco per il mondo».
13 Cain then said to Yahweh, 'My punishment is greater than I can bear.	13 Disse Caino al Signore: «È troppo grande la mia iniquità perchè io meriti perdono.
14 Look, today you drive me from the surface of the earth. I must hide from you, and be a restlesswanderer on earth. Why, whoever comes across me wil kill me!'	14 Ecco, tu mi scacci oggi sulla terra; sfuggirò la tua faccia, e sarò ramingo e fuggiasco nel mondo. Perciò, chiunque mi troverà, mi ucciderà».
15 'Very wel , then,' Yahweh replied, 'whoever kil s Cain wil suffer a sevenfold vengeance.' So Yahwehput a mark on Cain, so that no one coming across him would kil him.	15 Ma il Signore gli disse: «No, non sarà così. Anzi, chiunque ucciderà Caino sarà punito sette volte di più». E pose il Signore su Caino un segno, acciò nessuno che l'incontrasse lo uccidesse.
16 Cain left Yahweh's presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.	16 Uscito Caino dal cospetto del Signore, abitò fuggiasco nella regione che è all'oriente dell'Eden.
17 Cain had intercourse with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. He became thefounder of a city and gave the city the name of his son Enoch.	17 Ora, Caino conobbe la moglie sua, la quale concepì e partorì Henoc; costruì una città, e la chiamò Henoc dal nome del figlio suo.
18 Enoch fathered Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael; Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushaelfathered Lamech.	18 Poi Henoc generò Irad, Irad generò Maviael, Maviael generò Matusael, e Matusael generò Lamec.
19 Lamech married two women: the name of the first was Adah and the name of the second was Zil ah.	19 Questi prese due mogli: una di nome Ada, e l'altra di nome Sella.
20 Adah gave birth to Jabal: he was the ancestor of tent-dwelling herdsmen.	20 Ada generò Jabel, padre di quelli che abitano sotto le tende, e dei pastori.
21 His brother's name was Jubal: he was the ancestor of al who play the harp and the pipe.	21 Il fratello di questi ebbe nome Iubal, e fu padre dei musici di cetra e d'organo.
22 As for Zil ah, she gave birth to Tubal-Cain: he was the ancestor of al who work copper and iron.Tubal-Cain's sister was Naamah.	22 Sella poi generò Tubalcain, lavoratore al martello, artefice in ogni genere di lavoro in bronzo ed in ferro. Sorella poi di Tubalcain fu Noema.
23 Lamech said to his wives: Adah and Zil ah, hear my voice, wives of Lamech, listen to what I say: Ikil ed a man for wounding me, a boy for striking me.	23 E disse Lamec ad Ada e Sella sue mogli: «Udite la mia voce, mogli di Lamec, ascoltate il mio discorso; ho ucciso un uomo per una mia ferita, ed un giovine per una mia lividura;
24 Sevenfold vengeance for Cain, but seventy-sevenfold for Lamech.	24 di Caino sarà fatta sette volte vendetta, ma di Lamec, settanta volte sette».
25 Adam had intercourse with his wife, and she gave birth to a son whom she named Seth, 'becauseGod has granted me other offspring', she said, 'in place of Abel, since Cain has kil ed him.'	25 Conobbe un'altra volta Adamo la moglie sua, la quale partorì un figlio, e lo chiamò per nome Set, dicendo: «Iddio m'ha dato un altro discendente al luogo di Abele ucciso da Caino».
26 A son was also born to Seth, and he named him Enosh. This man was the first to invoke the nameYahweh.	26 Anche a Set nacque un figlio, e lo chiamò Enos. Questi cominciò ad invocare il nome del Signore.
