Genesis 4

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The man had intercourse with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. 'I have acquireda man with the help of Yahweh,' she said.	1 Or Adamo si unì a Eva, sua moglie, la quale concepì e partorì Caino, dicendo: "Ho formato un uomo con il favore del Signore".
2 She gave birth to a second child, Abel, the brother of Cain. Now Abel became a shepherd and keptflocks, while Cain tilled the soil.	2 Quindi aggiunse al nato un fratello, Abele. Abele divenne pastore di greggi e Caino coltivatore del suolo.
3 Time passed and Cain brought some of the produce of the soil as an offering for Yahweh,	3 Or, dopo un certo tempo, Caino offrì dei frutti del suolo in sacrificio al Signore;
4 while Abel for his part brought the first-born of his flock and some of their fat as wel . Yahweh lookedwith favour on Abel and his offering.	4 e anche Abele offrì dei primogeniti del suo gregge e del loro grasso. Il Signore gradì Abele e la sua offerta,
5 But he did not look with favour on Cain and his offering, and Cain was very angry and downcast.	5 ma non gradì Caino e l'offerta di lui. Perciò Caino ne fu molto irritato e il suo viso fu abbattuto.
6 Yahweh asked Cain, 'Why are you angry and downcast?	6 Il Signore disse allora a Caino: "Perché tu sei acceso d'ira e perché è abbattuto il tuo volto?
7 If you are doing right, surely you ought to hold your head high! But if you are not doing right, Sin iscrouching at the door hungry to get you. You can still master him.'	7 Non è forse vero che se agisci bene puoi tenere alta la testa, mentre se non agisci bene, è alla porta il Maligno, come un Robes? 10 'What have you done?' Yahweh asked. 'Listen! Your brother's blood is crying out to me from theground.	10 Il Signore riprese: "Che hai tu fatto? Sento il fiotto di sangue di tuo fratello che grida a me dal suolo!
11 Now be cursed and banned from the ground that has opened its mouth to receive your brother's bloodat your hands.	11 E ora tu sei maledetto dalla terra che per mano tua ha spalancato la bocca per ricevere il fiotto di sangue di tuo fratello.
12 When you til the ground it wil no longer yield up its strength to you. A restless wanderer you wil beon earth.'	12 Quando lavorerai il suolo, esso non ti darà più i suoi frutti; errante e vagabondo sarai per la terra".
13 Cain then said to Yahweh, 'My punishment is greater than I can bear.	13 Caino disse al Signore: "E' troppo grande la mia colpa, così da non meritare perdono!
14 Look, today you drive me from the surface of the earth. I must hide from you, and be a restlesswanderer on earth. Why, whoever comes across me wil kill me!'	14 Ecco, tu mi scacci oggi dalla faccia di questo suolo, e lungi dalla tua presenza io mi dovrò nascondere; io sarò ramingo e fuggiasco per la terra, per cui avverrà che chiunque mi troverà m'ucciderà".
15 'Very wel , then,' Yahweh replied, 'whoever kil s Cain wil suffer a sevenfold vengeance.' So Yahwehput a mark on Cain, so that no one coming across him would kil him.	15 Ma il Signore gli disse: "Non così! Chiunque ucciderà Caino sarà punito sette volte!". E il Signore pose su Caino un segno, cosicché chiunque l'avesse incontrato non l'avrebbe ucciso!
16 Cain left Yahweh's presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.	16 E Caino partì dalla presenza del Signore e abitò nel paese di Nod, di fronte a Eden.
17 Cain had intercourse with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. He became thefounder of a city and gave the city the name of his son Enoch.	17 Or Caino si unì a sua moglie che concepì e partorì Enoch. Egli divenne costruttore di una città, che chiamò Enoch, dal nome del figlio suo.
18 Enoch fathered Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael; Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushaelfathered Lamech.	18 E a Enoch nacque Irad; e Irad generò Mecuiael e Mecuiael generò Matusael e Matusael generò Lamech.
19 Lamech married two women: the name of the first was Adah and the name of the second was Zil ah.	19 Lamech si prese due mogli: una di nome Ada e l'altra di nome Zilla.
20 Adah gave birth to Jabal: he was the ancestor of tent-dwelling herdsmen.	20 Ada partorì Iabal; questi fu il padre di quanti abitano sotto le tende, presso il bestiame.
21 His brother's name was Jubal: he was the ancestor of al who play the harp and the pipe.	21 Il nome di suo fratello fu Iubal; questi fu il padre di tutti i suonatori di lira e flauto.
22 As for Zil ah, she gave birth to Tubal-Cain: he was the ancestor of al who work copper and iron.Tubal-Cain's sister was Naamah.	22 Zilla partorì, essa pure, Tubalkain, istruttore di ogni aguzzatore del rame e del ferro. Sorella di Tubalkain fu Noema.
23 Lamech said to his wives: Adah and Zil ah, hear my voice, wives of Lamech, listen to what I say: Ikil ed a man for wounding me, a boy for striking me.	23 Lamech disse alle mogli: "Ada e Zilla, udite la mia voce; mogli di Lamech, ascoltate il mio dire: Ho ucciso un uomo per una mia ferita ed un giovane per una mia ammaccatura:
24 Sevenfold vengeance for Cain, but seventy-sevenfold for Lamech.	24 Caino sarà vendicato sette volte, ma Lamech settantasette".
25 Adam had intercourse with his wife, and she gave birth to a son whom she named Seth, 'becauseGod has granted me other offspring', she said, 'in place of Abel, since Cain has kil ed him.'	25 Adamo si unì di nuovo a sua moglie, che partorì un figlio e lo chiamò Set, dicendo: "Dio mi ha dato un altro discendente al posto di Abele, poiché Caino l'ha ucciso".
26 A son was also born to Seth, and he named him Enosh. This man was the first to invoke the nameYahweh.	26 Anche a Set nacque un figlio, e lo chiamò Enos. Allora si cominciò ad invocare il nome del Signore (Jhwh).
