NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Matos Soares
1 Rachel, seeing that she herself gave Jacob no children, became jealous of her sister. And she said toJacob, 'Give me children, or I shal die!'	1 Ora Raquel, vendo-se infecunda, teve inveja da sua irmã e disse a seu marido: Dá-me filhos, senão morrerei.
2 This made Jacob angry with Rachel, and he retorted, 'Am I in the position of God, who has denied youmotherhood?'	2 Jacob, enfadado, respondeu-lhe: Acaso estou eu em lugar de Deus, que te privou do fruto do teu ventre?
3 So she said, 'Here is my slave-girl, Bilhah. Sleep with her and let her give birth on my knees; throughher, then, I too shal have children!'	3 Ela disse: Tenho (minha) serva Bala: toma-a, para que ela dê à luz sobre os meus joelhos, e eu tenha filhos dela.
4 So she gave him her slave-girl Bilhah as concubine. Jacob slept with her,	4 E deu-lhe Bala por mulher, a qual,
5 and Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son by Jacob.	5 depois que Jacob a tomou, concebeu, e deu à luz um filho.
6 Then Rachel said, 'God has done me justice; yes, he has heard my prayer and given me a son.'Accordingly she named him Dan.	6 Raquel disse: O Senhor julgou a meu favor, e ouviu a minha voz, dando-me um filho; por isso o chamou Dan.
7 Again Rachel's slave-girl Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a second son by Jacob.	7 Concebendo ela segunda vez, deu à luz outro filho,
8 Then Rachel said, 'I have fought a fateful battle with my sister, and I have won!' So she named himNaphtali.	8 do qual Raquel disse: O Senhor me fez entrar em competência com minha irmã, e eu vendi; e chamou-o Neftali,
9 Now Leah, seeing that she had ceased to bear children, took her slave-girl Zilpah and gave her toJacob as concubine.	9 Lia, vendo que tinha cessado de ter filhos, deu a seu marido sua escrava Zelfa.
10 So Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a son by Jacob.	10 E, tendo ela concebido e dado à luz um filho,
11 Then Leah exclaimed, 'What good fortune!' So she named him Gad.	11 Lia disse: Em boa hora: por isto lhe pôs o nome de Gad.
12 Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a second son by Jacob.	12 Zelfa deu à luz ainda outro filho.
13 Then Leah said, 'What blessedness! Women will cal me blessed!' So she named him Asher.	13 Lia disse: Isto é por minha dita, porque as mulheres me chamarão ditosa: por isso o chalou Aser.
14 One day, at the time of the wheat harvest, Reuben found some mandrakes in the field and broughtthem to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, 'Please give me some of your son's mandrakes.'	14 Ora Ruben, tendo saído ao campo no tempo da ceifa do trigo, achou umas mandrágoras e levou-as a Lia, sua mãe. Raquel disse (a Lia): Dá-me parte das mandrágoras do teu filho.
15 Leah replied, 'Is it not enough to have taken my husband, without your taking my son's mandrakesas well?' So Rachel said, 'Very wel , he can sleep with you tonight in return for your son's mandrakes.'	15 Ela respondeu-lhe: Porventura parece-te pouco teres-me roubado o marido. Senão que também me queres levar as mandrágoras de meu filho? Raquel disse: (consinto que ele) durma esta noite contigo pelas mandrágoras de teu filho.
16 When Jacob came back from the fields that night, Leah went out to meet him and said, 'You mustcome to me, for I have hired you at the price of my son's mandrakes.' So he slept with her that night.	16 Quando Jacob à tarde voltava do campo, Lia saiu-lhe ao encontro e disse-lhe: Virás comigo, porque eu te tomei pelo preço das mandrágoras de meu filho. E (Jacob) dormiu aquela noite com ela.
17 God heard Leah, and she conceived and gave birth to a fifth son by Jacob.	17 Deus ouviu os seus rogos, e ela concebeu deu à luz o quinto filho,
18 Then Leah said, 'God has given me my reward for giving my slave-girl to my husband.' So shenamed him Issachar.	18 e disse: Deus me deu o pago, dei a minha escrava ao meu marido; e pôs-lhe o nome de Issacar.
19 Again Leah conceived and gave birth to a sixth son by Jacob,	19 Concebendo novamente Lia, deu à luz o sexto filho,
20 and said, 'God has given me a fine gift; now my husband wil bring me presents, for I have borne himsix sons.' So she named him Zebulun.	20 e disse: Deus me dotou com um bom dote; meu marido estará comigo ainda esta vez, porque eu lhe dei seis filhos; por isso lhe pôs o nome de Zabulon.
21 Later she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.	21 Depois disto (Lia) deu à luz uma filha, chamada Dina.
22 Then God remembered Rachel; he heard her and opened her womb.	22 O Senhor lembrou-se também de Raquel, ouviu-a e tornou-a fecunda.
23 She conceived and gave birth to a son, and said, 'God has taken away my disgrace!'	23 Concebeu e deu luz um filho, dizendo: Deus tirou o meu opróbrio;
24 She named him Joseph, saying, 'May Yahweh add another son for me!'	24 e pôs-lhe o nome de José, dizendo: o Senhor me dê ainda outro filho.
25 When Rachel had given birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, 'Release me and let me go home tomy own country.	25 Nascido, porém, José, disse Jacob a seu sogro: Deixa que eu volte para a (minha) pátria, para a minha terra.
26 Give me my wives for whom I have worked for you, and my children, and let me go. You are welaware how long I have worked for you.'	26 Dá-me as mulheres e os meus filhos, pelos quais eu tenho servido, para que eu me vá: tu sabes que serviços eu tenho prestado.
27 Laban replied, 'If I have done what pleases you . . . I have learnt by divination that Yahweh hasblessed me because of you.	27 Labão disse-lhe; ache eu graça diante de teus olhos. Reconheci, por experiência, que Deus me abençoou por causa de ti.
28 So name your wages,' he added, 'and I wil pay.'	28 Determina tu a recompensa que deverei dar-te.
29 He replied, 'You know how hard I have worked for you, and how your stock has fared in my charge.	29 Mas ele respondeu: Tu sabes de que modo te servi, e quanto os teus bens aumentaram nas minhas mãos.
30 The little you had before I came has increased enormously, and Yahweh has blessed you wherever Ihave been. When am I to provide for my own household too?'	30 Tinhas pouco, antes que eu viesse para ti, e agora tornaste-te rico; o Senhor te abençoou com a minha vinda. É, pois, justo que eu pense também agora (em estabelecer) a minha casa.
31 Laban said, 'How much am I to pay you?' Jacob replied, 'You need not pay me anything. I shallchange my mind and go on tending your flock, if you do this one thing for me.	31 Labão disse-lhe: Que te hei-de eu dar? Respondeu- lhe Jacob: Não quero nada (em dinheiro); mas, se fizeres o que vou pedir-te. continuarei a apascentar e a guardar os teus rebanhos.
32 'Go through your entire flock today and remove every black animal among the sheep, and everyspeckled or spotted one among the goats. These wil be my wages,	32 Passarei, hoje, pelo meio de todos os teus rebanhos, e porei à parte todas as ovelhas negras ou de diversas cores e de pêlo malhado; tudo o que for negro, malhado e vário, tanto entre as ovelhas como entre as cabras, será a minha recompensa.
33 and my uprightness wil answer for me later: when you come to check my wages, every goat I havethat is not speckled or spotted, and every sheep that is not black will count as stolen by me.'	33 E amanhã me dará testemunho a minha justiça, quando chegar o tempo combinado entre nós; tudo o que não for de cores variegadas, malhado ou negro, tanto entre as ovelhas como entre as cabras, me arguirá de furto.
34 Laban replied, 'Good, just as you say.'	34 Labão disse: agrada-me o que pedes.
35 That same day he removed the striped and speckled he-goats and all the spotted and speckled she-goats, every one that had white on it, and al the black sheep, and entrusted these to his sons.	35 E, naquele dia, Labão separou as cabras, as ovelhas, os bodes e os carneiros variegados e manchados: e entregou nas mãos de seus filhos todo o rebanho que era duma só cor, isto é, de pêlo branco e negro.
36 Then he put a three days' journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob grazed the rest ofLaban's flock.	36 E pôs a distância de três dias de jornada entre si e o genro, o qual apascentava o restante dos seus rebanhos.
37 Jacob then got fresh shoots from poplar, almond and plane trees, and peeled them in white strips,laying bare the white part of the shoots.	37 Jacob, pois, tomando varas verdes de choupo e de amendoeira e de plátano, tirou-lhes parte da casca; tirada a casca, (nos lugares) onde as varas tinham sido descascadas, apareceu o branco; e onde tinham ficado intactas permaneceram verdes; e isto causou (nas varas) uma variedade de cores.
38 He set up the shoots he had peeled in front of the animals, in the troughs, in the water-holes wherethe animals came to drink. Since they mated when they came to drink,	38 E pô-las nos canais, onde se lançava a água, para que, quando os rebanhos fossem beber, tivessem as varas diante dos olhos, e concebessem olhando para elas.
39 the goats thus mated in front of the shoots and so the goats produced striped, spotted and speckledyoung.	39 E aconteceu que, no mesmo calor do coito, as ovelhas olhavam para as varas, e davam à luz cordeiros manchados e variegados e pintados de diversas cores.
40 The ewes, on the other hand, Jacob kept apart and made these face whatever was striped or blackin Laban's flock. Thus he built up droves of his own which he did not put with Laban's flocks.	40 Jacob separou o seu gado, e pôs as varas nos canais diante dos olhos das cabras; tudo o que era branco ou negro pertencia a Labão, e o restante a Jacob, tendo os rebanhos separados entre si.
41 Furthermore, whenever the sturdier animals were mating, Jacob put the shoots where the animalscould see them, in the troughs, so that they would mate in front of the shoots.	41 Quando, pois, na primavera, as ovelhas deviam conceber, Jacob punha as varas nos canais da água diante dos olhos dos carneiros e das ovelhas, para que elas concebessem olhando para as varas.
42 But when the animals were feeble, he did not put them there; so Laban got the feeble, and Jacob thesturdy.	42 Mas, quando as ovelhas concebiam no outono pela segunda vez, não punha as varas. Assim o que era concebido no outono, era para Labão, e o que era concebido na primavera, era para Jacob.
43 Thus the man grew extremely rich, and came to own large flocks, men and women slaves, camelsand donkeys.	43 Assim tornou-se extraordinàriamente rico, teve muitos rebanhos, escravas e escravos, camelos e jumentos.
