Genesis 30

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Rachel, seeing that she herself gave Jacob no children, became jealous of her sister. And she said toJacob, 'Give me children, or I shal die!'	1 - Rachele poi, vedendo d'esser sterile, ebbe invidia della sorella, e disse al marito: «Dammi dei figli, altrimenti morrò».
2 This made Jacob angry with Rachel, and he retorted, 'Am I in the position of God, who has denied youmotherhood?'	2 Alla quale rispose incollerito Giacobbe: «Son io forse al posto di Dio, che t'ha privato dei frutti delle tue viscere?».
3 So she said, 'Here is my slave-girl, Bilhah. Sleep with her and let her give birth on my knees; throughher, then, I too shal have children!'	3 Ma essa: «Ho Bala per ancella; prenditela, che partorisca nel mio grembo, e che io abbia figli da lei».
4 So she gave him her slave-girl Bilhah as concubine. Jacob slept with her,	4 E gli dette Bala in matrimonio, la quale,
5 and Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son by Jacob.	5 unitasi a lui, concepì e partorì un figlio.
6 Then Rachel said, 'God has done me justice; yes, he has heard my prayer and given me a son.'Accordingly she named him Dan.	6 Disse Rachele: «Il Signore m'ha giudicata giustamente, ed ha ascoltato la mia voce dandomi un figlio». Perciò gli mise nome Dan.
7 Again Rachel's slave-girl Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a second son by Jacob.	7 Dipoi Bala ne concepì e partorì un altro,
8 Then Rachel said, 'I have fought a fateful battle with my sister, and I have won!' So she named himNaphtali.	8 per il quale disse Rachele: «Iddio m'ha fatto lottare con mia sorella, ed ho vinto». E lo chiamò Neftali.
9 Now Leah, seeing that she had ceased to bear children, took her slave-girl Zilpah and gave her toJacob as concubine.	9 Vedendo Lia d'aver cessato di partorire, dette al marito la sua ancella Zelfa,
10 So Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a son by Jacob.	10 la quale concepì e partorì un figlio.
11 Then Leah exclaimed, 'What good fortune!' So she named him Gad.	11 Disse allora Lia: «Che felicità!». E gli mise nome Gad.
12 Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a second son by Jacob.	12 Poi, ne partorì Zelfa un altro.
13 Then Leah said, 'What blessedness! Women will cal me blessed!' So she named him Asher.	13 E disse Lia: «Questo è per la mia felicità, chè felice mi chiameranno le donne». Perciò lo chiamò Aser.
14 One day, at the time of the wheat harvest, Reuben found some mandrakes in the field and broughtthem to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, 'Please give me some of your son's mandrakes.'	14 Ora, uscito Ruben pei campi al tempo della mietitura del grano, trovò delle mandragore, e le portò a Lia sua madre. Disse Rachele: «Dammi una parte delle mandragore del tuo bambino».
15 Leah replied, 'Is it not enough to have taken my husband, without your taking my son's mandrakesas well?' So Rachel said, 'Very wel , he can sleep with you tonight in return for your son's mandrakes.'	15 Rispose quella: «Ti par poco d'avermi portato via il marito, che vuoi prendere anche le mandragore del mio figliuolo?». Disse Rachele: «Stia con te questa notte, in cambio delle mandragore del tuo ragazzo».
16 When Jacob came back from the fields that night, Leah went out to meet him and said, 'You mustcome to me, for I have hired you at the price of my son's mandrakes.' So he slept with her that night.	16 Tornando a sera Giacobbe dai campi, gli uscì incontro Lia, e gli disse: «Starai con me, perch'io t'ho pattuito in cambio delle mandragore del mio ragazzo». E fu con lei, quella notte.
17 God heard Leah, and she conceived and gave birth to a fifth son by Jacob.	17 Dio ascoltò le preghiere di Lia, che concepì e partorì il quinto figliuolo,
18 Then Leah said, 'God has given me my reward for giving my slave-girl to my husband.' So shenamed him Issachar.	18 e disse: «Il Signore m'ha dato la mercede, perchè detti al mio marito la mia serva». E lo chiamò Issacar.
19 Again Leah conceived and gave birth to a sixth son by Jacob,	19 Concepì un'altra volta, e partorì il sesto figliuolo,
20 and said, 'God has given me a fine gift; now my husband wil bring me presents, for I have borne himsix sons.' So she named him Zebulun.	20 e disse: «Iddio m'ha dotato d'una bella dote; anche questa volta il mio marito sarà con me, avendogli io generato sei figliuoli». Perciò gli mise nome Zabulon.
21 Later she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.	21 Dopo il quale, partorì una figlia, a nome Dina.
22 Then God remembered Rachel; he heard her and opened her womb.	22 Ma il Signore, ricordandosi anche di Rachele, l'esaudì, e le dette d'essere madre.
23 She conceived and gave birth to a son, and said, 'God has taken away my disgrace!'	23 Essa concepì, e partorì un figlio dicendo: «Il Signore ha tolto da me il mio obbrobrio».
24 She named him Joseph, saying, 'May Yahweh add another son for me!'	24 E lo chiamò per nome Giuseppe, dicendo: «Mi aggiunga il Signore anche un altro figliuolo».
25 When Rachel had given birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, 'Release me and let me go home tomy own country.	25 Nato che fu Giuseppe, disse Giacobbe al suocero: «Lasciami andare, ch'io ritorni nella mia patria e nella mia terra.
26 Give me my wives for whom I have worked for you, and my children, and let me go. You are welaware how long I have worked for you.'	26 Dammi le mogli per le quali io t'ho servito, ed i figli, ch'io vada; tu conosci i servizi che t'ho reso».
27 Laban replied, 'If I have done what pleases you . . . I have learnt by divination that Yahweh hasblessed me because of you.	27 Labano gli disse: «Trovi io grazia innanzi a te; so a prova che Dio m'ha benedetto per cagion tua.
28 So name your wages,' he added, 'and I wil pay.'	28 Stabilisci tu la mercede che ti debbo dare».
29 He replied, 'You know how hard I have worked for you, and how your stock has fared in my charge.	29 Rispose Giacobbe: «Tu sai come t'ho servito, e come si sono accresciuti nelle mie mani i tuoi possedimenti.
30 The little you had before I came has increased enormously, and Yahweh has blessed you wherever Ihave been. When am I to provide for my own household too?'	30 Poco possedevi prima che io venissi a te, ed ora sei divenuto ricco; dacchè son venuto, il Signore t'ha benedetto. È giusto dunque ch'io provvegga una volta anche alla casa mia».
31 Laban said, 'How much am I to pay you?' Jacob replied, 'You need not pay me anything. I shallchange my mind and go on tending your flock, if you do this one thing for me.	31 Disse Labano: «Che ti darò io?». Ed egli: «Non voglio niente; ma, se farai quanto ti chieggo, pascerò e custodirò ancora i tuoi armenti.
32 'Go through your entire flock today and remove every black animal among the sheep, and everyspeckled or spotted one among the goats. These wil be my wages,	32 Percorri tutti i tuoi greggi e metti da parte tutte le pecore variegate, e di vello macchiato; tutto quello che vi sarà di bruno o macchiato o variegato, tanto fra le pecore quanto fra le capre, sarà per mia mercede.
33 and my uprightness wil answer for me later: when you come to check my wages, every goat I havethat is not speckled or spotted, and every sheep that is not black will count as stolen by me.'	33 La mia giustizia ti si farà poi manifesta ogni qualvolta ti piacerà; perchè tutto quello che io avessi di non variegato e macchiato o bruno, tanto fra le pecore, quanto fra le capre, m'accuserebbe di furto».
34 Laban replied, 'Good, just as you say.'	34 Disse Labano: «Mi piace ciò che domandi».
35 That same day he removed the striped and speckled he-goats and all the spotted and speckled she-goats, every one that had white on it, and al the black sheep, and entrusted these to his sons.	35 Mise da parte in quel giorno le capre, le pecore, i capri ed i montoni variegati e macchiati; e tutto il gregge d'un sol colore, cioè di vello bianco o nero, l'affidò ai suoi figliuoli.
36 Then he put a three days' journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob grazed the rest ofLaban's flock.	36 Poi mise una distanza di tre giorni di cammino fra sè ed il genero, che pasceva il rimanente del suo gregge.
37 Jacob then got fresh shoots from poplar, almond and plane trees, and peeled them in white strips,laying bare the white part of the shoots.	37 Allora Giacobbe prese delle verghe di pioppo, di mandorlo e di platano, e le sbucciò qua e là; dove aveva levata la buccia, apparivano bianche; dov'erano restate intatte, rimasero verdi; così ne venne un aspetto variegato.
38 He set up the shoots he had peeled in front of the animals, in the troughs, in the water-holes wherethe animals came to drink. Since they mated when they came to drink,	38 E le pose nei canali ove si versava l'acqua, così che quando gli armenti venivano per bere, avessero sott'occhio quelle verghe, e le guardassero mentre concepivano.
39 the goats thus mated in front of the shoots and so the goats produced striped, spotted and speckledyoung.	39 Così, avvenne che le pecore entrate in calore riguardando quelle verghe, partorivano macchiato o variegato o di diverso colore.
40 The ewes, on the other hand, Jacob kept apart and made these face whatever was striped or blackin Laban's flock. Thus he built up droves of his own which he did not put with Laban's flocks.	40 Giacobbe pose nei canali le verghe, sotto gli occhi dei montoni e divise il gregge; erano bianchi e neri quelli di Labano, e di Giacobbe gli altri, separati i greggi gli uni dagli altri.
41 Furthermore, whenever the sturdier animals were mating, Jacob put the shoots where the animalscould see them, in the troughs, so that they would mate in front of the shoots.	41 Pertanto, quando le pecore s'accoppiavano in principio della stagione, Giacobbe metteva le verghe nei canali dell'acqua, sotto gli occhi dei montoni e delle pecore, perchè concepissero mentre le guardavano;
42 But when the animals were feeble, he did not put them there; so Laban got the feeble, and Jacob thesturdy.	42 quando poi erano gli accoppiamenti tardivi e gli ultimi parti, non ve le poneva. Così gli ultimi nati appartenevano a Labano, ed i primi a Giacobbe.
43 Thus the man grew extremely rich, and came to own large flocks, men and women slaves, camelsand donkeys.	43 Questi perciò si arricchì a dismisura, ed ebbe gran quantità di armenti, serve e servi, cammelli e asini.
