1 When Isaac had grown old, and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he summoned hiselder son Esau. 'Son!' he said, and Esau replied, 'Here I am.'	1 Ma Isacco era invecchiato, e se gli era infiacchita la vista, e non poteva vedere: e chiamò il figlio suo maggiore Esaù, e gli disse: Figliuol mio? E quegli rispose: Eccomi qui.
2 He then said, 'Look, I am old and do not know when I may die.	2 A cui il padre: Tu vedi, disse, che io son vecchio, e non so il giorno della mia morte.
3 Now take your weapons, your quiver and bow; go out into the country and hunt me some game.	3 Prendi le tue armi, il turcasso, e l'arco, e va' fuori: e quando avrai preso qualche cosa alla caccia,
4 Make me the kind of appetising dish I like and bring it to me to eat and I shal give you my specialblessing before I die.'	4 Fammene una pietanza nel modo, che sai, che a me piace, e portamela, perché io la mangi: e l'anima mia ti benedica avanti che io muoia.
5 Rebekah was listening while Isaac was talking to his son Esau. So when Esau went into the country tohunt game for his father,	5 La qual cosa avendo udito Rebecca, ed essendo quegli andato alla campagna per fare il comando del padre,
6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, 'I have just heard your father saying to your brother Esau,	6 Disse ella a Giacobbe suo figliuolo: Ho sentito tuo padre parlare con Esaù tuo fratello, e dirgli:
7 "Bring me some game and make an appetising dish for me to eat and then I shal bless you inYahweh's presence before I die."	7 Portami della tua cacciagione, e fammi una pietanza, perché io la mangi, e ti benedica dinanzi al Signore prima di morire:
8 Now, son, listen to me and do as I tel you.	8 Ora dunque, figliuol mio, attienti al mio consiglio:
9 Go to the flock and bring me back two good kids, so that I can make the kind of special dish yourfather likes.	9 E va' alla greggia, e portami due de' migliori capretti, affinché io faccia pel tuo padre le pietanze, delle quali con piacere si ciba:
10 Then take it to your father for him to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies.'	10 Le quali quando tu avrai portate a lui, ed egli le avrà mangiate, ti benedica prima di morire.
11 Jacob said to his mother Rebekah, 'Look, my brother Esau is hairy, while I am smooth-skinned.	11 Le rispose egli: Tu sai che Esaù mio fratello è peloso, ed io senza un pelo.
12 If my father happens to touch me, he wil see I am cheating him, and I shall bring a curse down onmyself instead of a blessing.'	12 Se mio padre viene a palpeggiarmi, e mi riconosce, temo, che ei non si pensi, che io abbia voluto burlarlo, onde io mi tiri addosso la maledizione in cambio della benedizione.
13 But his mother replied, 'On me be the curse, my son! Just listen to me; go and fetch me the kids.'	13 La madre a lui: Sia sopra di me, disse, questa maledizione, figliuol mio: solamente fa' a modo mio, e va' tosto, e porta quello che ho detto.
14 So he went to fetch them and brought them to his mother, and she made the kind of special dish hisfather liked.	14 Andò, e portò, e diede alla madre. Ella condizionò le pietanze, come sapeva esser di genio del padre di lui.
15 Rebekah took her elder son Esau's best clothes, which she had at home, and dressed her youngerson Jacob in them,	15 E lo rivestì delle vesti migliori di Esaù, le quali ella teneva in casa presso di sé:
16 covering his arms and the smooth part of his neck with the skins of the kids.	16 E le mani di lui involse colle delicate pelli de' capretti, e ne ricoprì la parte nuda del collo.
17 She then handed the special dish and the bread she had made to her son Jacob.	17 E diede (a lui) le pietanze, e i pani, che ella avea cotti.
18 He went to his father and said, 'Father!' 'Yes?' he replied. 'Which of my sons are you?'	18 I quali avendo egli portati dentro, disse: Padre mio? E quegli rispose: Che vuoi? Chi sei tu, figliuol mio?
19 Jacob said to his father, 'I am Esau your first-born; I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eatsome of the game I have brought and then give me your soul's blessing.'	19 E Giacobbe disse: Io sono il tuo primogenito Esaù: ho fatto quel che m'hai comandato: alzati, siedi, e mangia della mia cacciagione, affinché l'anima tua mi benedica.
20 Isaac said to his son, 'Son, how did you succeed so quickly?' He replied, 'Because Yahweh your Godmade things go well for me.'	20 E soggiunse Isacco al figliuol suo: Come, figliuol mio, hai potuto trovare così presto? Egli rispose: Fu volere di Dio, ch'io tosto m'imbattessi in quello ch'io bramava.
21 Isaac said to Jacob, 'Come closer, son, so that I can feel you and be sure whether you real y are myson Esau or not.'	21 E Isacco disse: Appressati qua, ch'io ti tocchi, figliuol mio, e riconosca, se tu sei, o no il figliuol mio Esaù.
22 Jacob went closer to his father Isaac, who felt him and said, 'The voice is Jacob's voice but the armsare the arms of Esau!'	22 S'appressò egli al padre, e quando l'ebbe palpato, disse Isacco: La voce veramente ella è la voce di Giacobbe, ma le mani sono quelle di Esaù.
23 He did not recognise him since his arms were hairy like his brother Esau's, and so he blessed him.	23 E nol riconobbe perché le mani pelose eran del tutto simili a quelle del maggiore. Benedicendolo adunque,
24 He said, 'Are you real y my son Esau?' And he replied, 'I am.'	24 Disse: Tu sei il figliuol mio Esaù? Rispose: Io sono.
25 Isaac said, 'Serve it to me, so that I can eat my son's game and give you my special blessing.' Heserved it to him and he ate; he offered him wine, and he drank.	25 E quegli: Dammi, disse, figliuol mio, le pietanze di tua cacciagione, affinché l'anima mia ti benedica. Portate le quali, e mangiate, (Giacobbe) gli presentò anche il vino, e bevuto che l'ebbe,
26 His father Isaac said to him, 'Come closer, and kiss me, son.'	26 Disse a lui: Accostati a me, figliuol mio, e dammi un bacio.
27 He went closer and kissed his father, who sniffed the smel of his clothes. Then he blessed him,saying: Ah, the smel of my son is like the smel of a fertile field which Yahweh has blessed.	27 Si appressò, e baciollo. E tosto che egli sentì la fragranza delle sue vestimenta, benedicendolo disse: Ecco l'odore del figliuol mio è come l'odore di un campo ben fiorito e benedetto dal Signore.
28 May God give you dew from heaven, and the richness of the earth, abundance of grain and wine!	28 Dia a te il Signore la rugiada del cielo, e la pinguedine della terra, e l'abbondanza di frumento, e di vino;
29 Let peoples serve you and nations bow low before you! Be master of your brothers; let your mother'sother sons bow low before you! Accursed be whoever curses you and blessed be whoever blesses you!	29 E servi a te sieno i popoli, e ti adorino le tribù: sii tu il signore de' tuoi fratelli, e s'inchinino dinanzi a te i figliuoli della tua madre. Chi ti maledirà, sia egli maledetto; e chi ti benedirà, sia di benedizioni ricolmo.
30 As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and just as Jacob was leaving his father Isaac, hisbrother Esau returned from hunting.	30 Appena avea Isacco finite queste parole: e Giacobbe se n'era andato, quando arrivò Esaù.
31 He too made an appetising dish and brought it to his father, 'Father, please eat some of your son'sgame and then give me your special blessing.'	31 E le pietanze di sua cacciagione cucinate portò al padre suo, dicendo: Alzati, padre mio, e mangia della caccia del figliuol tuo; affinché l'anima tua mi benedica.
32 His father Isaac asked, 'Who are you?' 'I am your first-born son, Esau,' he replied.	32 E Isacco gli disse: Ma chi sei tu? Rispose egli: Io sono il figliuol tuo primogenito Esaù,
33 At this Isaac was seized with a violent trembling and said, 'Who was it, then, that went hunting andbrought me the game? I finished eating it just before you came; I blessed him, and now blessed he wil remain!'	33 Inorridì per grande stupore Isacco: e oltre ogni credere stupefatto disse: Chi è adunque colui, il quale già a me portò la presa cacciagione, e io di tutto mangiai prima che tu venissi? e io l'ho benedetto, e benedetto sarà.
34 On hearing his father's words, Esau cried out loudly and bitterly and said to his father, 'Father, blessme too!'	34 Udito il discorso del padre, ruggì Esaù, e diè grande strido, e costernato disse: Da' la benedizione anche a me, padre mio.
35 But he replied, 'Your brother came by fraud and took your blessing.'	35 Disse egli: Venne con astuzia il tuo fratello, e si prese la tua benedizione.
36 Esau said, 'His name should be Jacob right enough, for he has now supplanted me twice. First hetook my birthright, and look, now he has gone and taken my blessing! But', he added, 'have you not kept ablessing for me?'	36 Ma quegli soggiunse: Con giustizia fu a lui posto nome Giacobbe: imperocché ecco che per la seconda volta egli mi ha soppiantato: mi tolse già la mia primogenitura, e di nuovo la mia benedizione mi ha tolto. E di nuovo disse al padre: Non hai tu, o padre, serbata benedizione anche per me?
37 Isaac replied to Esau, 'I have already made him your master; I have given him al his brothers asservants, I have given him grain and wine to sustain him. So what can I do for you, son?'	37 Rispose Isacco: Io lo ho costituito tuo signore, e ho soggettati al suo servaggio tutti i suoi fratelli: lo ho fatto forte a frumento, e a vino: e dopo di ciò, che farò io ancora per te, figlio mio?
38 Esau said to his father, 'Can you bless only once, father? Father, bless me too.' Isaac remainedsilent, and Esau began to weep aloud.	38 Disse a lui Esaù: Hai tu, o padre, sol una benedizione? benedici, ti prego, anche me. E piangendo egli, e urlando altamente,
39 Then his father Isaac spoke again and said: 'Far from the richness of the earth and the dew ofheaven above, your home will be.	39 Commosso Isacco gli disse: Nella pinguedine della terra, e nella rugiada di su dal cielo
40 By your sword you wil live, and your brother wil you serve. But when you win your freedom, you wilshake his yoke off your neck.'	40 Sarà la tua benedizione. Viverai della spada, e sarai servo del tuo fratello: e tempo verrà, che tu scuoterai, e scioglierai dal tuo collo il suo giogo.
41 Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him, and Esau said to himself, 'Thetime to mourn for my father wil soon be here. Then I shal kil my brother Jacob.'	41 Esaù adunque avea sempre in odio Giacobbe per la benedizione, che questi avea ricevuto dal padre; e disse in cuor suo: Verranno i giorni del lutto pel padre mio, e io ammazzerò Giacobbe mio fratello.
42 When the words of Esau, her elder son, were repeated to Rebekah, she sent for her younger sonJacob and said to him, 'Look, your brother Esau means to take revenge and kil you.	42 Fu ciò riferito a Rebecca: la quale mandò a chiamare Giacobbe suo figlio, e gli disse: Ecco che Esaù tuo fratello minaccia d'ucciderti.
43 Now, son, listen to me; go at once and take refuge with my brother Laban in Haran.	43 Or adunque, figlio mio, credi a me, e fuggi tosto a casa di Laban mio fratello in Haran:
44 Stay with him a while, until your brother's fury cools,	44 E con lui ti starai per un poco di tempo, fintantoché si ammansisca il furore di tuo fratello;
45 until your brother's anger is diverted from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then Ishall send someone to bring you back. I do not want to lose you both on one day!'	45 E passi la sua iracondia, e si scordi delle cose, che tu gli hai fatte: poscia io manderò chi di là ti riconduca in questo luogo. Perché dovrò io perdere tutti due i figli miei in un sol giorno?
46 Rebekah said to Isaac, 'The Hittite women sicken me to death. If Jacob were to marry a Hittitewoman like these, one of the local women, what would there be left in life for me?'	46 E disse Rebecca ad Isacco: Mi viene a noia la vita a causa di queste figliuole di Heth. Se Giacobbe prende una moglie della razza di questo paese, io non voglio più vivere.
