Genesis 27

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 When Isaac had grown old, and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he summoned hiselder son Esau. 'Son!' he said, and Esau replied, 'Here I am.'	1 Cuando Isaac envejeció, sus ojos se debilitaron tanto que ya no veía nada. Entonces llamó a Esaú, su hijo mayor, y le dijo: «¡Hijo mío!». «Aquí estoy», respondió él.
2 He then said, 'Look, I am old and do not know when I may die.	2 «Como ves, continuó diciendo Isaac, yo estoy viejo y puedo morir en cualquier momento.
3 Now take your weapons, your quiver and bow; go out into the country and hunt me some game.	3 Por eso, toma tus armas –tu aljaba y tu arco– ve al campo, y cázame algún animal silvestre.
4 Make me the kind of appetising dish I like and bring it to me to eat and I shal give you my specialblessing before I die.'	4 Después prepárame una buena comida, de esas que a mí me gustan, y tráemela para que la coma. Así podré darte mi bendición antes de morir».
5 Rebekah was listening while Isaac was talking to his son Esau. So when Esau went into the country tohunt game for his father,	5 Rebeca había estado escuchando cuando Isaac hablaba con su hijo Esaú. Y apenas este se fue al campo a cazar un animal para su padre,
6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, 'I have just heard your father saying to your brother Esau,	6 Rebeca dijo a Jacob: «Acabo de oír que tu padre le decía a tu hermano Esaú:
7 "Bring me some game and make an appetising dish for me to eat and then I shal bless you inYahweh's presence before I die."	7 «Tráeme un animal silvestre y prepárame una buena comida. Yo la comeré, y te bendeciré en la presencia del Señor antes de morir».
8 Now, son, listen to me and do as I tel you.	8 Ahora, hijo mío, escucha bien lo que voy a ordenar.
9 Go to the flock and bring me back two good kids, so that I can make the kind of special dish yourfather likes.	9 Ve al corral y tráeme de allí dos cabritos bien cebados. Yo prepararé con ellos una buena comida para tu padre, de esas que le agradan a él,
10 Then take it to your father for him to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies.'	10 y tú se la llevarás para que la coma. Así él te bendecirá antes de morir».
11 Jacob said to his mother Rebekah, 'Look, my brother Esau is hairy, while I am smooth-skinned.	11 Pero Jacob respondió a su madre Rebeca: «Mira que mi hermano Esaú es velludo y yo soy lampiño.
12 If my father happens to touch me, he wil see I am cheating him, and I shall bring a curse down onmyself instead of a blessing.'	12 Si mi padre me llega a tocar, pensará que me estoy burlando de él, y entonces atraeré sobre mí una maldición, y no una bendición».
13 But his mother replied, 'On me be the curse, my son! Just listen to me; go and fetch me the kids.'	13 Que esa maldición caiga sobre mí, hijo mío», le respondió su madre. «Tú obedéceme, y tráeme los cabritos».
14 So he went to fetch them and brought them to his mother, and she made the kind of special dish hisfather liked.	14 Jacob fue a buscar los cabritos, se los llevó a su madre, y ella preparó una buena comida, como le agradaba a su padre.
15 Rebekah took her elder son Esau's best clothes, which she had at home, and dressed her youngerson Jacob in them,	15 Después Rebeca tomó una ropa de su hijo mayor Esaú, la mejor que había en la casa, y se la puso a Jacob, su hijo menor;
16 covering his arms and the smooth part of his neck with the skins of the kids.	16 y con el cuero de los cabritos le cubrió las manos y la parte lampiña del cuello.
17 She then handed the special dish and the bread she had made to her son Jacob.	17 Luego le entregó la comida y el pan que había preparado.
18 He went to his father and said, 'Father!' 'Yes?' he replied. 'Which of my sons are you?'	18 Jacob se presentó ante su padre y le dijo: «¡Padre!». Este respondió: «Sí, ¿quién eres, hijo mío?».
19 Jacob said to his father, 'I am Esau your first-born; I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eatsome of the game I have brought and then give me your soul's blessing.'	19 «Soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito, respondió Jacob a su padre, y ya hice lo que me mandaste. Por favor, siéntate y come lo que cacé, para que puedas bendecirme».
20 Isaac said to his son, 'Son, how did you succeed so quickly?' He replied, 'Because Yahweh your Godmade things go well for me.'	20 Entonces Isaac le dijo: «¡Qué rápido lo has logrado, hijo mío!». Jacob respondió: «El Señor, tu Dios, hizo que las cosas me salieran bien».
21 Isaac said to Jacob, 'Come closer, son, so that I can feel you and be sure whether you real y are myson Esau or not.'	21 Pero Isaac añadió: «Acércate, hijo mío, y deja que te toque, para ver si eres realmente mi hijo Esaú o no».
22 Jacob went closer to his father Isaac, who felt him and said, 'The voice is Jacob's voice but the armsare the arms of Esau!'	22 El se acercó a su padre; este lo palpó y dijo: «La voy es de Jacob, pero las manos son de Esaú».
23 He did not recognise him since his arms were hairy like his brother Esau's, and so he blessed him.	23 Y no lo reconoció, porque sus manos estaban cubiertas de vello, como las de su hermano Esaú. Sin embargo, cuando ya se disponía a bendecirlo,
24 He said, 'Are you real y my son Esau?' And he replied, 'I am.'	24 le preguntó otra vez: «¿Tú eres mi hijo Esaú?». «Por supuesto», respondió él.
25 Isaac said, 'Serve it to me, so that I can eat my son's game and give you my special blessing.' Heserved it to him and he ate; he offered him wine, and he drank.	25 «Entonces sírveme, continuó diciendo Isaac, y déjame comer lo que has cazado, para que pueda darte mi bendición». Jacob le acercó la comida, y su padre la comió; también le sirvió vino, y lo bebió.
26 His father Isaac said to him, 'Come closer, and kiss me, son.'	26 Luego su padre Isaac le dijo: «Acércate, hijo mío, y dame un beso».
27 He went closer and kissed his father, who sniffed the smel of his clothes. Then he blessed him,saying: Ah, the smel of my son is like the smel of a fertile field which Yahweh has blessed.	27 Cuando él se acercó para besarlo, Isaac percibió la fragancia de su ropa. Entonces lo bendijo diciendo: «Sí, la fragancia de mi hijo es como el aroma de un campo que el Señor ha bendecido.
28 May God give you dew from heaven, and the richness of the earth, abundance of grain and wine!	28 Que el Señor te dé el rocío del cielo, y la fertilidad de la tierra, trigo y vino en abundancia.
29 Let peoples serve you and nations bow low before you! Be master of your brothers; let your mother'sother sons bow low before you! Accursed be whoever curses you and blessed be whoever blesses you!	29 Que los pueblos te sirvan y las naciones te rindan homenaje. Tú serás el señor de tus hermanos, y los hijos de tu madre se inclinarán ante ti. Maldito sea el que te maldiga, y bendito el que te bendiga».
30 As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and just as Jacob was leaving his father Isaac, hisbrother Esau returned from hunting.	30 Apenas Isaac había terminado de bendecir a Jacob, en el preciso momento que este se apartaba de su padre, su hermano Esaú volvió de cazar.
31 He too made an appetising dish and brought it to his father, 'Father, please eat some of your son'sgame and then give me your special blessing.'	31 El también preparó una comida apetitosa y la presentó a su padre, diciendo: «Levántate, padre, y come la presa que tu hijo ha cazado. Así podrás bendecirme».
32 His father Isaac asked, 'Who are you?' 'I am your first-born son, Esau,' he replied.	32 Isaac, su padre, le preguntó: «Y tú, ¿quién eres?». «Soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito», le respondió él.
33 At this Isaac was seized with a violent trembling and said, 'Who was it, then, that went hunting andbrought me the game? I finished eating it just before you came; I blessed him, and now blessed he wil remain!'	33 Isaac quedó profundamente turbado y exclamó: «¿Quién ha sido entonces el que cazó una presa y me la trajo? Yo la comí antes que tú llegaras, lo bendije, y quedará bendecido».
34 On hearing his father's words, Esau cried out loudly and bitterly and said to his father, 'Father, blessme too!'	34 Al oír las palabras de su padre, Esaú lanzó un fuerte grito lleno de amargura. Luego dijo: «¡Padre, bendíceme también a mí!».
35 But he replied, 'Your brother came by fraud and took your blessing.'	35 Pero Isaac respondió a Esaú: «Ha venido tu hermano y, valiéndose de un engaño, se llevó tu bendición».
36 Esau said, 'His name should be Jacob right enough, for he has now supplanted me twice. First hetook my birthright, and look, now he has gone and taken my blessing! But', he added, 'have you not kept ablessing for me?'	36 Esaú dijo entonces: «Sí, con razón se llama Jacob. Ya van dos veces que me desplaza: primero arrebató mi condición de hijo primogénito, y ahora se ha llevado mi bendición». Y agregó: «¿No has reservado una bendición para mí?».
37 Isaac replied to Esau, 'I have already made him your master; I have given him al his brothers asservants, I have given him grain and wine to sustain him. So what can I do for you, son?'	37 Isaac respondió a Esaú: «Lo he constituido tu señor y le he dado como servidores a todos sus hermanos; lo he provisto de trigo y de vino: ¿Qué más puedo hacer por ti, hijo mío?».
38 Esau said to his father, 'Can you bless only once, father? Father, bless me too.' Isaac remainedsilent, and Esau began to weep aloud.	38 Esaú dijo a su padre: «¿Acaso tienes sólo una bendición?». Isaac permaneció en silencio. Esaú lanzó un grito y se puso a llorar.
39 Then his father Isaac spoke again and said: 'Far from the richness of the earth and the dew ofheaven above, your home will be.	39 Isaac le respondió, diciéndole: «Tu morada estará lejos de los campos fértiles y del rocío que cae del cielo.
40 By your sword you wil live, and your brother wil you serve. But when you win your freedom, you wilshake his yoke off your neck.'	40 Vivirás de tu espada y servirás a tu hermano. Pero cuando te rebeles, lograrás sacudir su yugo de tu cuello».
41 Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him, and Esau said to himself, 'Thetime to mourn for my father wil soon be here. Then I shal kil my brother Jacob.'	41 Esaú sintió hacia su hermano un profundo rencor, por la bendición que le había dado su padre. Y pensó: «Pronto estaremos de duelo por mi padre. Entonces mataré a mi hermano Jacob».
42 When the words of Esau, her elder son, were repeated to Rebekah, she sent for her younger sonJacob and said to him, 'Look, your brother Esau means to take revenge and kil you.	42 Cuando contaron a Rebeca las palabras de Esaú, su hijo mayor, ella mandó llamar a Jacob, su hijo menor y le dijo: «Tu hermano te quiere matar para vengarse de ti.
43 Now, son, listen to me; go at once and take refuge with my brother Laban in Haran.	43 Ahora, hijo mío, obedéceme. Huye inmediatamente a Jarán, a casa de mi hermano Labán,
44 Stay with him a while, until your brother's fury cools,	44 y quédate con él algún tiempo, hasta que tu hermano se tranquilice,
45 until your brother's anger is diverted from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then Ishall send someone to bring you back. I do not want to lose you both on one day!'	45 hasta que se calme su ira contra ti y olvide lo que le has hecho. Después yo te mandaré a buscar. ¿Por qué voy a perderlos a los dos en un solo día?».
46 Rebekah said to Isaac, 'The Hittite women sicken me to death. If Jacob were to marry a Hittitewoman like these, one of the local women, what would there be left in life for me?'	46 Rebeca dijo a Isaac: «¡Esas mujeres hititas me han quitado hasta las ganas de vivir! Si también Jacob se casa con una de esas hititas, con una nativa de ese país, ¿qué me importa ya de la vida?».
