Genesis 27

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 When Isaac had grown old, and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he summoned hiselder son Esau. 'Son!' he said, and Esau replied, 'Here I am.'	1 Isaac était devenu vieux et ses yeux avaient faibli jusqu'à ne plus voir. Il appela son fils aîné Esaü:"Mon fils!" lui dit-il, et celui-ci répondit: "Oui!"
2 He then said, 'Look, I am old and do not know when I may die.	2 Il reprit: "Tu vois, je suis vieux et je ne connais pas le jour de ma mort.
3 Now take your weapons, your quiver and bow; go out into the country and hunt me some game.	3 Maintenant, prends tes armes, ton carquois et ton arc, sors dans la campagne et tue-moi du gibier.
4 Make me the kind of appetising dish I like and bring it to me to eat and I shal give you my specialblessing before I die.'	4 Apprête-moi un régal comme j'aime et apporte-le moi, que je mange, afin que mon âme te bénisseavant que je meure" --
5 Rebekah was listening while Isaac was talking to his son Esau. So when Esau went into the country tohunt game for his father,	5 Or Rébecca écoutait pendant qu'Isaac parlait à son fils Esaü.-- Esaü alla donc dans la campagnechasser du gibier pour sonpère.
6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, 'I have just heard your father saying to your brother Esau,	6 Rébecca dit à son fils Jacob: "Je viens d'entendre ton père dire à ton frère Esaü:
7 "Bring me some game and make an appetising dish for me to eat and then I shal bless you inYahweh's presence before I die."	7 Apporte-moi du gibier et apprête-moi un régal, je mangerai et je te bénirai devant Yahvé avant demourir.
8 Now, son, listen to me and do as I tel you.	8 Maintenant, fils, écoute-moi et fais comme je t'ordonne.
9 Go to the flock and bring me back two good kids, so that I can make the kind of special dish yourfather likes.
10 Then take it to your father for him to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies.'	10 Tu le présenteras à ton père et il mangera, afin qu'il te bénisse avant de mourir."
11 Jacob said to his mother Rebekah, 'Look, my brother Esau is hairy, while I am smooth-skinned.	11 Jacob dit à sa mère Rébecca: "Vois: mon frère Esaü est velu, et moi j'ai la peau bien lisse.
12 If my father happens to touch me, he wil see I am cheating him, and I shall bring a curse down onmyself instead of a blessing.'	12 Peut-être mon père va-t-il me tâter, il verra que je me suis moqué de lui et j'attirerai sur moi lamalédiction au lieu de la bénédiction."
13 But his mother replied, 'On me be the curse, my son! Just listen to me; go and fetch me the kids.'	13 Mais sa mère lui répondit: "Je prends sur moi ta malédiction, mon fils! Ecoute-moi seulement etva me chercher les chevreaux."
14 So he went to fetch them and brought them to his mother, and she made the kind of special dish hisfather liked.	14 Il alla les chercher et les apporta à sa mère qui apprêta un régal comme son père aimait.
15 Rebekah took her elder son Esau's best clothes, which she had at home, and dressed her youngerson Jacob in them,	15 Rébecca prit les plus beaux habits d'Esaü, son fils aîné, qu'elle avait à la maison, et en revêtitJacob, son fils cadet.
16 covering his arms and the smooth part of his neck with the skins of the kids.	16 Avec la peau des chevreaux elle lui couvrit les bras et la partie lisse du cou.
17 She then handed the special dish and the bread she had made to her son Jacob.	17 Puis elle mit le régal et le pain qu'elle avait apprêtés entre les mains de son fils Jacob.
18 He went to his father and said, 'Father!' 'Yes?' he replied. 'Which of my sons are you?'	18 Il alla auprès de son père et dit: "Mon père!" celui-ci répondit: "Oui! Qui es-tu, mon fils?"
19 Jacob said to his father, 'I am Esau your first-born; I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eatsome of the game I have brought and then give me your soul's blessing.'	19 Jacob dit à son père: "Je suis Esaü, ton premier-né, j'ai fait ce que tu m'as commandé. Lève-toi, jete prie, assieds-toi et mange de ma chasse, afin que ton âme me bénisse."
20 Isaac said to his son, 'Son, how did you succeed so quickly?' He replied, 'Because Yahweh your Godmade things go well for me.'	20 Isaac dit à Jacob: "Comme tu as trouvé vite, mon fils" -- "C'est, répondit-il, que Yahvé ton Dieum'a été propice."
21 Isaac said to Jacob, 'Come closer, son, so that I can feel you and be sure whether you real y are myson Esau or not.'	21 Isaac dit à Jacob: "Approche-toi donc, que je te tâte, mon fils, pour savoir si, oui ou non, tu esmon fils Esaü."
22 Jacob went closer to his father Isaac, who felt him and said, 'The voice is Jacob's voice but the armsare the arms of Esau!'	22 Jacob s'approcha de son père Isaac, qui le tâta et dit: "La voix est celle de Jacob, mais les brassont ceux d'Esaü!"
23 He did not recognise him since his arms were hairy like his brother Esau's, and so he blessed him.	23 Il ne le reconnut pas car ses bras étaient velus comme ceux d'Esaü son frère, et il le bénit.
24 He said, 'Are you real y my son Esau?' And he replied, 'I am.'	24 Il dit: "Tu es bien mon fils Esaü?" Et l'autre répondit:"Oui."
25 Isaac said, 'Serve it to me, so that I can eat my son's game and give you my special blessing.' Heserved it to him and he ate; he offered him wine, and he drank.	25 Isaac reprit: "Sers-moi et que je mange de la chasse de mon fils, afin que mon âme te bénisse." Ille servit et il mangea, il lui présenta du vin et il but.
26 His father Isaac said to him, 'Come closer, and kiss me, son.'	26 Son père Isaac lui dit: "Approche-toi et embrasse-moi, mon fils!"
27 He went closer and kissed his father, who sniffed the smel of his clothes. Then he blessed him,saying: Ah, the smel of my son is like the smel of a fertile field which Yahweh has blessed.	27 Il s'approcha et embrassa son père, qui respira l'odeur de ses vêtements. Il le bénit ainsi: "Oui,l'odeur de mon fils est comme l'odeur d'un champ fertile que Yahvé a béni.
28 May God give you dew from heaven, and the richness of the earth, abundance of grain and wine!	28 Que Dieu te donne la rosée du ciel et les gras terroirs, froment et vin en abondance!
29 Let peoples serve you and nations bow low before you! Be master of your brothers; let your mother'sother sons bow low before you! Accursed be whoever curses you and blessed be whoever blesses you!	29 Que les peuples te servent, que des nations se prosternent devant toi! Sois un maître pour tesfrères, que se prosternent devant toi les fils de ta mère! Maudit soit qui te maudira, Béni soit qui te bénira!"
30 As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and just as Jacob was leaving his father Isaac, hisbrother Esau returned from hunting.	30 Isaac avait achevé de bénir Jacob et Jacob sortait tout juste de chez son père Isaac lorsque sonfrère Esaü rentra de la chasse.
31 He too made an appetising dish and brought it to his father, 'Father, please eat some of your son'sgame and then give me your special blessing.'	31 Lui aussi apprêta un régal et l'apporta à son père. Il lui dit: "Que mon père se lève et mange de lachasse de son fils, afin que ton âme me bénisse!"
32 His father Isaac asked, 'Who are you?' 'I am your first-born son, Esau,' he replied.	32 Son père Isaac lui demanda: "Qui es-tu" -- "Je suis, répondit-il, ton fils premier-né, Esaü."
33 At this Isaac was seized with a violent trembling and said, 'Who was it, then, that went hunting andbrought me the game? I finished eating it just before you came; I blessed him, and now blessed he wil remain!'	33 Alors Isaac fut secoué d'un très grand frisson et dit: "Que lest donc celui-là qui a chassé du gibieret me l'a apporté? De confiance j'ai mangé avant que tu ne viennes et je l'ai béni, et il restera béni!"
34 On hearing his father's words, Esau cried out loudly and bitterly and said to his father, 'Father, blessme too!'	34 Lorsque Esaü entendit les paroles de son père, il cria avec beaucoup de force et d'amertume et dità son père: "Bénis-moi aussi, mon père!"
35 But he replied, 'Your brother came by fraud and took your blessing.'	35 Mais celui-ci répondit: "Ton frère est venu par ruse et a pris ta bénédiction."
36 Esau said, 'His name should be Jacob right enough, for he has now supplanted me twice. First hetook my birthright, and look, now he has gone and taken my blessing! But', he added, 'have you not kept ablessing for me?'	36 Esaü reprit: "Est-ce parce qu'il s'appelle Jacob qu'il m'a supplanté ces deux fois? Il avait pris mondroit d'aînesse et voilà maintenant qu'il a pris ma bénédiction! Mais, ajouta-t-il, ne m'as-tu pas réservé unebénédiction?"
37 Isaac replied to Esau, 'I have already made him your master; I have given him al his brothers asservants, I have given him grain and wine to sustain him. So what can I do for you, son?'	37 Isaac, prenant la parole, répondit à Esaü: "Je l'ai établi ton maître, je lui ai donné tous ses frèrescomme serviteurs, je l'ai pourvu de froment et de vin. Que pourrais-je faire pour toi, mon fils?"
38 Esau said to his father, 'Can you bless only once, father? Father, bless me too.' Isaac remainedsilent, and Esau began to weep aloud.	38 Esaü dit à son père: "Est-ce donc ta seule bénédiction, mon père? Bénis-moi aussi, mon père!"Isaac resta silencieux et Esaü se mit à pleurer.
39 Then his father Isaac spoke again and said: 'Far from the richness of the earth and the dew ofheaven above, your home will be.	39 Alors son père Isaac prit la parole et dit: "Loin des gras terroirs sera ta demeure, loin de la roséequi tombe du ciel.
40 By your sword you wil live, and your brother wil you serve. But when you win your freedom, you wilshake his yoke off your neck.'	40 Tu vivras de ton épée, tu serviras ton frère. Mais, quand tu t'affranchiras, tu secoueras son joug dedessus ton cou."
41 Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him, and Esau said to himself, 'Thetime to mourn for my father wil soon be here. Then I shal kil my brother Jacob.'	41 Esaü prit Jacob en haine à cause de la bénédiction que son père avait donnée à celui-ci et il se diten lui-même: "Proche est le temps où l'on fera le deuil de mon père. Alors je tuerai mon frère Jacob."
42 When the words of Esau, her elder son, were repeated to Rebekah, she sent for her younger sonJacob and said to him, 'Look, your brother Esau means to take revenge and kil you.	42 Lorsqu'on rapporta à Rébecca les paroles d'Esaü, son fils aîné, elle fit appeler Jacob, son filscadet, et lui dit: "Ton frère Esaü veut se venger de toi en te tuant.
43 Now, son, listen to me; go at once and take refuge with my brother Laban in Haran.	43 Maintenant, mon fils, écoute-moi: pars, enfuis-toi chez mon frère Laban à Harân.
44 Stay with him a while, until your brother's fury cools,	44 Tu habiteras avec lui quelques temps, jusqu'à ce que se détourne la fureur de ton frère,
45 until your brother's anger is diverted from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then Ishall send someone to bring you back. I do not want to lose you both on one day!'	45 jusqu'à ce que la colère de ton frère se détourne de toi et qu'il oublie ce que tu lui as fait; alors jet'enverrai chercher là-bas. Pourquoi vous perdrais-je tous les deux en un seul jour?"
46 Rebekah said to Isaac, 'The Hittite women sicken me to death. If Jacob were to marry a Hittitewoman like these, one of the local women, what would there be left in life for me?'	46 Rébecca dit à Isaac: "Je suis dégoûtée de la vie à cause des filles de Hèt. Si Jacob épouse une desfilles de Hèt comme celles-là, une des filles du pays, que m'importe la vie?"
