Genesis 12

NEW JERUSALEM	Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
1 Yahweh said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your kindred and your father's house for a country whichI shal show you;	1 1 Jahvè disse ad Abramo: «Parti dalla tua terra e dalla tua parentela e dalla casa di tuo padre, verso la terra che io ti indicherò.
2 and I shal make you a great nation, I shal bless you and make your name famous; you are to be ablessing!	2 lo farò di te una grande nazione e ti benedirò, renderò grande il tuo nome, che diverrà una benedizione.
3 I shal bless those who bless you, and shal curse those who curse you, and al clans on earth willbless themselves by you.'	3 Benedirò coloro che ti benediranno e maledirò coloro che ti malediranno. In te si diranno benedette tutte le tribù della terra!»
4 So Abram went as Yahweh told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old whenhe left Haran.	4 Allora Abramo partì, come gli aveva detto Jahvè, e con lui parti Lot. Abramo aveva settantacinque anni quando lasciò Kharran.
5 Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had amassed and the people theyhad acquired in Haran. They set off for the land of Canaan, and arrived there.	5 Abramo dunque prese Sarai sua moglie e Lot figlio di suo fratello con tutti i beni che avevano acquistato in Kharran e tutto il personale che vi si erano procurati, e si incamminarono verso la terra di Canaan arrivarono così alla terra di Canaan;
6 Abram passed through the country as far as the holy place at Shechem, the Oak of Moreh. TheCanaanites were in the country at the time.	6 Abramo attraversò il paese fino alla località di Sichem, presso la quercia di More. Nel paese si trovavano allora i Cananei.
7 Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, 'I shal give this country to your progeny.' And there, Abrambuilt an altar to Yahweh who had appeared to him.	7 Jahvè apparve ad Abramo e gli disse: «Alla tua discendenza io darò questa terra». Allora Abramo edificò in quel luogo un altare a Jahvè che gli era apparso.
8 From there he moved on to the mountainous district east of Bethel, where he pitched his tent, withBethel to the west and Ai to the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh and invoked the name of Yahweh.	8 Di là passò verso la montagna, a oriente di Bethel, e rizzò la tenda avendo Bethel a occidente e Ai a oriente. Ivi edificò un altare a Jahvè e invocò il nome di Jahvè.
9 Then Abram made his way stage by stage to the Negeb.	9 Poi Abramo, dopo aver piantato e levato l’accampamento, arrivò nel Negheb.
10 There was a famine in the country, and Abram went down to Egypt to stay there for a time, since thefamine in the country was severe.	10 Ora, venne una carestia nel paese e Abramo discese in Egitto per soggiornarvi, perché la carestia gravava sul paese.
11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, 'Look, I know you are a beautifulwoman.	11 Ma, quando fu sul punto di entrare in Egitto, egli disse alla moglie Sarai: «Ecco, so che tu sei una donna di aspetto avvenente.
12 When the Egyptians see you they wil say, "That is his wife," and they wil kil me but leave you alive.	12 Accadrà che, quando gli Egiziani ti vedranno, diranno: “Costei è sua moglie”, e uccideranno me, mentre lasceranno te in vita.
13 Therefore please tell them you are my sister, so that they may treat me wel because of you andspare my life out of regard for you.'	13 Di dunque che sei, mia sorella, perché io sia trattato bene per causa tua e la mia vita sia salva in grazia tua».
14 When Abram arrived in Egypt the Egyptians did indeed see that the woman was very beautiful.	14 Appunto quando Abramo arrivò in Egitto, gli Egiziani videro che la donna era molto avvenente.
15 When Pharaoh's officials saw her they sang her praises to Pharaoh and the woman was taken intoPharaoh's household.	15 La osservarono i capi del Faraone e ne fecero le lodi al Faraone; così la donna fu presa e condotta nella casa del Faraone.
16 And Abram was very well treated because of her and received flocks, oxen, donkeys, men andwomen slaves, she-donkeys and camels.	16 Intanto Abramo fu trattato bene per causa di lei e ricevette bestiame minuto e bestiame grosso e asini, Schiavi e schiave, asine e cammelle.
17 But Yahweh inflicted severe plagues on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram's wife Sarai.	17 Ma Jahvè colpì il Faraone e anche la sua casa con grandi piaghe per l’affare di Sarai moglie di Abramo.
18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram and said, 'What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell meshe was your wife?	18 Allora il Faraone chiamò Abramo e gli disse: «Che cosa è ciò che mi hai fatto? Perché non mi hai fatto sapere che era tua moglie?
19 Why did you say, "She is my sister," so that I took her to be my wife? Now, here is your wife. Takeher and go!'	19 Perché hai detto: “È mia sorella”, così che io me la sono presa in moglie? E ora, eccoti tua moglie: prendila e vattene!»
20 And Pharaoh gave his people orders about him; they sent him on his way with his wife and al hispossessions.	20 Il Faraone diede ordine a suo riguardo ad alcuni uomini, che lo accomiatarono con la moglie e tutti i suoi averi.
