Genesis 12

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Yahweh said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your kindred and your father's house for a country whichI shal show you;	1 E il Signore disse ad Abramo: « Parti dalla tua terra, dal tuo parentado e dalla casa di tuo padre, e vieni nel paese che io ti mostrerò.
2 and I shal make you a great nation, I shal bless you and make your name famous; you are to be ablessing!	2 Io poi farò di te una grande nazione, ti benedirò e farò grande il tuo nome, e tu sarai una benedizione.
3 I shal bless those who bless you, and shal curse those who curse you, and al clans on earth willbless themselves by you.'	3 Io benedirò chi ti benedice, e maledirò chi ti maledice, e in te saranno benedette tutte le nazioni della terra. »
4 So Abram went as Yahweh told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old whenhe left Haran.	4 Partì adunque Abramo secondo l'ordine del Signore, e Lot andò con lui. Abramo aveva settantacinque anni quando partì da Haran.
5 Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had amassed and the people theyhad acquired in Haran. They set off for the land of Canaan, and arrived there.	5 Egli prese con sè la sua moglie Sarai, e Lot figlio di suo fratello, e tutto quello che possedevano, e le persone che avevano acquistate in Haran, e partirono per andare nella terra di Canaan. E, giunti colà,
6 Abram passed through the country as far as the holy place at Shechem, the Oak of Moreh. TheCanaanites were in the country at the time.	6 Abramo attraversò il paese fino al luogo di Sichem, fino alla valle famosa. Erano allora in quella terra i Cananei.
7 Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, 'I shal give this country to your progeny.' And there, Abrambuilt an altar to Yahweh who had appeared to him.	7 Là il Signore apparve ad Abramo e gli disse: « Alla tua progenie io darò questa terra ». Ed egli edificò in quel luogo un altare al Signore, che gli era apparso.
8 From there he moved on to the mountainous district east of Bethel, where he pitched his tent, withBethel to the west and Ai to the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh and invoked the name of Yahweh.	8 E di lì procedendo verso il monte ad oriente di Betel, vi tese la sua tenda, avendo Betel a occidente ed Ai ad oriente; e anche li edificò un altare al Signore e ne invocò il nome.
9 Then Abram made his way stage by stage to the Negeb.	9 Poi Abramo continuò il suo cammino spingendosi verso mezzogiorno.
10 There was a famine in the country, and Abram went down to Egypt to stay there for a time, since thefamine in the country was severe.	10 Ma sopravvenuta la carestia nel paese, Abramo scese in Egitto, per starvi un po' di tempo, perchè la fame dominava nel paese.
11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, 'Look, I know you are a beautifulwoman.	11 E stando per entrare in Egitto disse a Sarai sua moglie: « So che tu sei una bella donna,
12 When the Egyptians see you they wil say, "That is his wife," and they wil kil me but leave you alive.	12 e che gli Egiziani, appena ti avran veduta, diranno: « E sua moglie », e uccideranno me, e lasceranno a te la vita.
13 Therefore please tell them you are my sister, so that they may treat me wel because of you andspare my life out of regard for you.'	13 Di' dunque che sei mia sorella, te ne scongiuro, affinchè per amor tuo io sia bene accolto, e per te abbia salva la vita ».
14 When Abram arrived in Egypt the Egyptians did indeed see that the woman was very beautiful.	14 Entrato adunque Abramo in Egitto, gli Egiziani osservarono che la donna era molto bella;
15 When Pharaoh's officials saw her they sang her praises to Pharaoh and the woman was taken intoPharaoh's household.	15 e i principi ne parlarono a Faraone, e la magnificarono dinanzi a lui, e la donna fu portata nella casa di Faraone.
16 And Abram was very well treated because of her and received flocks, oxen, donkeys, men andwomen slaves, she-donkeys and camels.	16 E per riguardo a lei trattaron bene Abramo, che ebbe pecore e buoi e asini, e servi e serve, e asine e cammelli.
17 But Yahweh inflicted severe plagues on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram's wife Sarai.	17 Ma il Signore percosse con gravissime piaghe Faraone e la sua casa a motivo di Sarai moglie di Abramo.
18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram and said, 'What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell meshe was your wife?	18 Allora Faraone, chiamato Abramo, gli disse: « Che m'hai fatto? Perchè non mi hai detto che è tua moglie?
19 Why did you say, "She is my sister," so that I took her to be my wife? Now, here is your wife. Takeher and go!'	19 Perché mi hai dichiarato che è tua sorella, in modo che io l'ho presa in moglie? Or dunque eccoti la tua moglie: prendila, e vattene ».
20 And Pharaoh gave his people orders about him; they sent him on his way with his wife and al hispossessions.	20 E Faraone diede gli ordini ai suoi uomini riguardo ad Abramo, ed essi scortarono lui, la sua moglie e tutto quello che possedeva.
