Genesis 12

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Yahweh said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your kindred and your father's house for a country whichI shal show you;	1 Il Signore disse ad Abram: "Vattene dalla tua terra, dalla tua parentela e dalla casa di tuo padre, verso la terra che io ti mostrerò,
2 and I shal make you a great nation, I shal bless you and make your name famous; you are to be ablessing!	2 cosicché faccia di te una grande nazione e ti benedica e faccia grande il tuo nome, e tu possa essere una benedizione.
3 I shal bless those who bless you, and shal curse those who curse you, and al clans on earth willbless themselves by you.'	3 Benedirò coloro che ti benediranno e maledirò chi ti maledirà, e in te acquisteranno benedizione tutte le tribù della terra".
4 So Abram went as Yahweh told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old whenhe left Haran.	4 Allora Abram partì, come gli aveva detto il Signore, e con lui partì Lot. Abram aveva settantacinque anni quando lasciò Carran.
5 Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had amassed and the people theyhad acquired in Haran. They set off for the land of Canaan, and arrived there.	5 Abram prese Sarai, sua moglie, e Lot, figlio di suo fratello, e tutti i loro beni che avevano acquistato e le persone che avevano comprate in Carran, e s'incamminarono verso la terra di Canaan.
6 Abram passed through the country as far as the holy place at Shechem, the Oak of Moreh. TheCanaanites were in the country at the time.	6 Abram attraversò il paese fino al santuario di Sichem, presso la Quercia di More. Allora nel paese si trovavano i Cananei.
7 Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, 'I shal give this country to your progeny.' And there, Abrambuilt an altar to Yahweh who had appeared to him.	7 Il Signore apparve ad Abram e gli disse: "Alla tua discendenza io darò questa terra". Sicché egli costruì colà un altare al Signore che gli era apparso.
8 From there he moved on to the mountainous district east of Bethel, where he pitched his tent, withBethel to the west and Ai to the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh and invoked the name of Yahweh.	8 Poi di là andò verso la montagna, ad oriente di Betel, e rizzò la sua tenda, avendo Betel a occidente ed Ai a oriente. Ivi costruì un altare al Signore ed invocò il nome del Signore.
9 Then Abram made his way stage by stage to the Negeb.	9 Poi Abram, levando tappa per tappa l'accampamento, si diresse verso il Negheb.
10 There was a famine in the country, and Abram went down to Egypt to stay there for a time, since thefamine in the country was severe.	10 Or venne una carestia nel paese, e Abram discese in Egitto per soggiornarvi, perché la carestia gravava sul paese.
11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, 'Look, I know you are a beautifulwoman.	11 Quando fu sul punto di entrare in Egitto, egli disse a Sarai, sua moglie: "Certo, tu sai che sei una donna di aspetto avvenente.
12 When the Egyptians see you they wil say, "That is his wife," and they wil kil me but leave you alive.	12 Quando gli Egiziani ti vedranno, diranno: "Costei è sua moglie!" e uccideranno me, ma lasceranno te in vita.
13 Therefore please tell them you are my sister, so that they may treat me wel because of you andspare my life out of regard for you.'	13 Di', dunque, te ne prego, che sei mia sorella, affinché mi facciano del bene per causa tua e la mia vita sia salva in grazia tua".
14 When Abram arrived in Egypt the Egyptians did indeed see that the woman was very beautiful.	14 Difatti, quando Abram arrivò in Egitto, gli Egiziani videro che la donna era molto avvenente.
15 When Pharaoh's officials saw her they sang her praises to Pharaoh and the woman was taken intoPharaoh's household.	15 La osservarono gli ufficiali del faraone e ne fecero le lodi al faraone, e così la donna fu presa e condotta nella casa del faraone.
16 And Abram was very well treated because of her and received flocks, oxen, donkeys, men andwomen slaves, she-donkeys and camels.	16 Intanto Abram fu trattato bene per causa di lei; e gli furono dati greggi, armenti e asini, schiavi e schiave, asine e cammelli.
17 But Yahweh inflicted severe plagues on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram's wife Sarai.	17 Ma il Signore colpì il faraone e la sua casa con grandi piaghe, per il fatto di Sarai, moglie di Abram.
18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram and said, 'What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell meshe was your wife?	18 Allora il faraone chiamò Abram e gli disse: "Che cosa mi hai fatto? Perché non mi hai indicato ch'era tua moglie?
19 Why did you say, "She is my sister," so that I took her to be my wife? Now, here is your wife. Takeher and go!'	19 Perché hai detto: "Essa è mia sorella!" in modo che io me la son presa per moglie? Ora eccoti tua moglie; prendila e vattene!".
20 And Pharaoh gave his people orders about him; they sent him on his way with his wife and al hispossessions.	20 Il faraone diede ordine a suo riguardo ad alcuni uomini, i quali lo accomiatarono con la moglie e tutto il suo avere.
