NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.1 Si linguis hominum loquar et angelorum, caritatem au tem non habeam,factus sum velut aes sonans aut cymbalum tinniens.
And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.2 Et si habuero prophetiam et noverim mysteria omnia et omnem scientiam, et sihabuero omnem fidem, ita ut montes transferam, caritatem autem non habuero,nihil sum.
If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.3 Et si distribuero in cibos omnes facultates meas et si tradidero corpus meum,ut glorier, caritatem autem non habuero, nihil mihi prodest.
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,4 Caritas patiens est, benigna est caritas, non aemulatur, non agit superbe, noninflatur,
it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,5 non est ambitiosa, non quaerit, quae sua sunt, non irritatur, noncogitat malum,
it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.6 non gaudet super iniquitatem, congaudet autem veritati;
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.7 omniasuffert, omnia credit, omnia sperat, omnia sustinet.
Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.8 Caritas numquam excidit. Sive prophetiae, evacuabuntur; sive linguae,cessabunt; sive scientia, destruetur.
For we know partially and we prophesy partially,9 Ex parte enim cognoscimus et ex parteprophetamus;
but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.10 cum autem venerit, quod perfectum est, evacuabitur, quod exparte est.
When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.11 Cum essem parvulus, loquebar ut parvulus, sapiebam ut parvulus,cogitabam ut parvulus; quando factus sum vir, evacuavi, quae erant parvuli.
At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.12 Videmus enim nunc per speculum in aenigmate, tunc autem facie ad faciem; nunccognosco ex parte, tunc autem cognoscam, sicut et cognitus sum.
So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.13 Nunc autem manet fides, spes, caritas, tria haec; maior autem ex his estcaritas.
