Proverbs 24

1 Be not emulous of evil men, and desire not to be with them;	1 Non portare invidia agli uomini malvagi, E non desiderare di esser con loro.
2 For their hearts plot violence, and their lips speak of foul play.	2 Perciocchè il cuor loro macchina rapina, E le lor labbra parlano d’iniquità
3 By wisdom is a house built, by understanding is it made firm;	3 La casa sarà edificata per sapienza, E sarà stabilita per prudenza.
4 And by knowledge are its rooms filled with every precious and pleasing possession.	4 E per conoscimento le camere saranno ripiene Di beni preziosi e dilettevoli, d’ogni maniera.
5 A wise man is more powerful than a strong man, and a man of knowledge than a man of might;	5 L’uomo savio è forte; E l’uomo intendente è possente di forza.
6 For it is by wise guidance that you wage your war, and the victory is due to a wealth of counselors.	6 Perciocchè con prudenti consigli tu farai la guerra; E la salute è posta in moltitudine di consiglieri
7 For a fool, to be silent is wisdom; not to open his mouth at the gate.	7 Le sapienze son troppo alte per lo stolto; Egli non aprirà la bocca nella porta.
8 He who plots evil doing-- men call him an intriguer.	8 Chi divisa far male Sarà chiamato uomo malizioso.
9 Beyond intrigue and folly and sin, it is arrogance that men find abominable.	9 Il pensiero di stoltizia è peccato; E lo schernitore è l’abbominio degli uomini
10 If you remain indifferent in time of adversity, your strength will depart from you.	10 Se tu ti rallenti nel giorno della distretta, Le tue forze saranno corte
11 Rescue those who are being dragged to death, and from those tottering to execution withdraw not.	11 Se tu ti rattieni dal riscuoter quelli che son tratti alla morte, E quelli che stanno in forse di essere uccisi,
12 If you say, "I know not this man!" does not he who tests hearts perceive it? He who guards your life knows it, and he will repay each one according to his deeds.	12 Dicendo: Ecco noi non ne sappiamo nulla; Colui che pesa i cuori non vi porrà egli mente? E il guardiano dell’anima tua non lo conoscerà egli, E non renderà egli a ciascuno secondo le sue opere?
13 If you eat honey, my son, because it is good, if virgin honey is sweet to your taste;	13 Figliuol mio, mangia pure del miele; Perciocchè egli è buono; E del favo del miele, che è dolce al tuo palato;
14 Such, you must know, is wisdom to your soul. If you find it, you will have a future, and your hope will not be cut off.	14 Tal sarà la conoscenza della sapienza all’anima tua, Quando tu l’avrai trovata; e vi sarà premio, E la tua speranza non sarà troncata
15 Lie not in wait against the home of the just man, ravage not his dwelling place;	15 O empio, non insidiar l’abitacolo del giusto, Non guastare il suo ricetto.
16 For the just man falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble to ruin.	16 Perciocchè il giusto cade sette volte, e si rileva; Ma gli empi ruinano nel male
17 Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and when he stumbles, let not your heart exult,	17 Non rallegrarti, quando il tuo nemico sarà caduto; E quando egli sarà ruinato, il cuor tuo non ne gioisca;
18 Lest the LORD see it, be displeased with you, and withdraw his wrath from your enemy.	18 Che talora il Signore nol vegga, e che ciò non gli dispiaccia, E ch’egli non istorni l’ira sua d’addosso a lui
19 Be not provoked with evildoers, nor envious of the wicked;	19 Non adirarti per li maligni; Non portare invidia agli empi.
20 For the evil man has no future, the lamp of the wicked will be put out.	20 Perciocchè non vi sarà premio alcuno per lo malvagio; La lampana degli empi sarà spenta
21 My son, fear the LORD and the king; have nothing to do with those who rebel against them;	21 Figliuol mio, temi il Signore e il re; Non rimescolarti co’ rapportatori.
22 For suddenly arises the destruction they send, and the ruin from either one, who can measure?	22 Perciocchè in un momento sorgerà la loro calamità; E chi conosce la ruina procedente d’amendue loro?
23 These also are sayings of the wise: To show partiality in judgment is not good.	23 Queste cose ancora son per li Savi. Ei non è bene di aver riguardo alla qualità delle persone in giudicio.
24 He who says to the wicked man, "You are just"-- men will curse him, people will denounce him;	24 I popoli malediranno, e le nazioni esecreranno Colui che dice all’empio: Tu sei giusto.
25 But those who convict the evildoer will fare well, and on them will come the blessing of prosperity.	25 Ma quelli che lo gastigano saranno grati; E benedizione di bene verrà sopra loro.
26 He gives a kiss on the lips who makes an honest reply.	26 Chi risponde parole diritte Bacia le labbra
27 Complete your outdoor tasks, and arrange your work in the field; afterward you can establish your house.	27 Ordina le tue faccende fuori, E mettile in assetto ne’ tuoi campi; E poi edificherai la tua casa
28 Be not a witness against your neighbor without just cause, thus committing folly with your lips.	28 Non essere testimonio contro al tuo prossimo senza cagione; E vorresti tu subornare alcuno con le tue labbra?
29 Say not, "As he did to me, so will I do to him; I will repay the man according to his deeds."	29 Non dire: Come egli ha fatto a me, così farò a lui; Io renderò a costui secondo l’opera sua
30 I passed by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man without sense;	30 Io passai già presso al campo del pigro, E presso alla vigna dell’uomo scemo di senno;
31 And behold! it was all overgrown with thistles; its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall broken down.	31 Ed ecco, amendue erano tutti montati in ortiche, I cardi ne aveano coperto il disopra, E la lor chiusura di pietre era ruinata.
32 And as I gazed at it, I reflected; I saw and learned the lesson:	32 Ed io, riguardando ciò, vi posi mente; Vedutolo, ne presi ammaestramento.
33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest--	33 Dormendo un poco, sonnecchiando un poco, Piegando un poco le mani per riposare;
34 Then will poverty come upon you like a highwayman, and want like an armed man.	34 La tua povertà verrà come un viandante, E la tua inopia come uno scudiere
