2 Save me, God, for the waters have reached my neck.	2 Salvum me fac, Deus, quoniam venerunt aquae usque ad guttur meum.
3 I have sunk into the mire of the deep, where there is no foothold. I have gone down to the watery depths; the flood overwhelms me.	3 Infixus sum in limo profundi, et non est substantia; veni in profunda aquarum, et fluctus demersit me.
4 I am weary with crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes have failed, looking for my God.	4 Laboravi clamans, raucae factae sunt fauces meae; defecerunt oculi mei, dum spero in Deum meum.
5 More numerous than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause. Too many for my strength are my treacherous enemies. Must I now restore what I did not steal?	5 Multiplicati sunt super capillos capitis mei, qui oderunt me gratis. Confortati sunt, qui persecuti sunt me inimici mei mendaces; quae non rapui, tunc exsolvebam.
6 God, you know my folly; my faults are not hidden from you.	6 Deus, tu scis insipientiam meam, et delicta mea a te non sunt abscondita.
7 Let those who wait for you, LORD of hosts, not be shamed through me. Let those who seek you, God of Israel, not be disgraced through me	7 Non erubescant in me, qui exspectant te, Domine, Domine virtutum. Non confundantur super me, qui quaerunt te, Deus Israel.
8 For your sake I bear insult, shame covers my face.	8 Quoniam propter te sustinui opprobrium, operuit confusio faciem meam;
9 I have become an outcast to my kin, a stranger to my mother's children.	9 extraneus factus sum fratribus meis et peregrinus filiis matris meae.
10 Because zeal for your house consumes me, I am scorned by those who scorn you.	10 Quoniam zelus domus tuae comedit me, et opprobria exprobrantium tibi ceciderunt super me.
11 I have wept and fasted, but this led only to scorn.	11 Et flevi in ieiunio animam meam, et factum est in opprobrium mihi.
12 I clothed myself in sackcloth; I became a byword for them.	12 Et posui vestimentum meum cilicium, et factus sum illis in parabolam.
13 They who sit at the gate gossip about me; drunkards make me the butt of their songs.	13 Adversum me loquebantur, qui sedebant in porta, et in me canebant, qui bibebant vinum.
14 But I pray to you, LORD, for the time of your favor. God, in your great kindness answer me with your constant help.	14 Ego vero orationem meam ad te, Domine, in tempore beneplaciti, Deus. In multitudine misericordiae tuae exaudi me, in veritate salutis tuae.
15 Rescue me from the mire; do not let me sink. Rescue me from my enemies and from the watery depths.	15 Eripe me de luto, ut non infigar, eripiar ab iis, qui oderunt me, et de profundis aquarum.
16 Do not let the floodwaters overwhelm me, nor the deep swallow me, nor the mouth of the pit close over me.	16 Non me demergat fluctus aquarum, neque absorbeat me profundum, neque urgeat super me puteus os suum.
17 Answer me, LORD, in your generous love; in your great mercy turn to me.	17 Exaudi me, Domine, quoniam benigna est misericordia tua; secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum respice in me.
18 Do not hide your face from your servant; in my distress hasten to answer me.	18 Et ne avertas faciem tuam a puero tuo; quoniam tribulor, velociter exaudi me.
19 Come and ransom my life; because of my enemies redeem me.	19 Accede ad animam meam, vindica eam, propter inimicos meos redime me.
20 You know my reproach, my shame, my disgrace; before you stand all my foes.	20 Tu scis opprobrium meum et confusionem meam et reverentiam meam. - In conspectu tuo sunt omnes, qui tribulant me;
21 Insult has broken my heart, and I am weak; I looked for compassion, but there was none, for comforters, but found none.	21 opprobrium contrivit cor meum, et elangui. Et sustinui, qui simul contristaretur, et non fuit, et qui consolaretur, et non inveni.
22 Instead they put gall in my food; for my thirst they gave me vinegar.	22 Et dederunt in escam meam fel et in siti mea potaverunt me aceto.
23 Make their own table a snare for them, a trap for their friends.	23 Fiat mensa eorum coram ipsis in laqueum et in retributiones et in scandalum.
24 Make their eyes so dim they cannot see; keep their backs ever feeble.	24 Obscurentur oculi eorum, ne videant, et lumbos eorum semper infirma.
25 Pour out your wrath upon them; let the fury of your anger overtake them.	25 Effunde super eos iram tuam, et furor irae tuae comprehendat eos.
26 Make their camp desolate, with none to dwell in their tents.	26 Fiat commoratio eorum deserta, et in tabernaculis eorum non sit qui inhabitet.
27 For they pursued the one you struck, added to the pain of the one you wounded.	27 Quoniam, quem tu percussisti, persecuti sunt, et super dolorem eius, quem vulnerasti, addiderunt.
28 Add that to their crimes; let them not attain to your reward.	28 Appone iniquitatem super iniquitatem eorum, et non veniant ad iustitiam tuam.
29 Strike them from the book of the living; do not count them among the just!	29 Deleantur de libro viventium et cum iustis non scribantur.
30 But I am afflicted and in pain; let your saving help protect me, God,	30 Ego autem sum pauper et dolens; salus tua, Deus, suscipit me.
31 That I may praise God's name in song and glorify it with thanksgiving.	31 Laudabo nomen Dei cum cantico et magnificabo eum in laude.
32 My song will please the LORD more than oxen, more than bullocks with horns and hooves:	32 Et placebit Domino super taurum, super vitulum cornua producentem et ungulas.
33 "See, you lowly ones, and be glad; you who seek God, take heart!	33 Videant humiles et laetentur; quaerite Deum, et vivet cor vestrum,
34 For the LORD hears the poor, does not spurn those in bondage.	34 quoniam exaudivit pauperes Dominus et vinctos suos non despexit.
35 Let the heavens and the earth sing praise, the seas and whatever moves in them!"	35 Laudent illum caeli et terra, maria et omnia reptilia in eis.
36 God will rescue Zion, rebuild the cities of Judah. God's servants shall dwell in the land and possess it;	36 Quoniam Deus salvam faciet Sion et aedificabit civitates Iudae; et inhabitabunt ibi et possidebunt eam.
37 7) it shall be the heritage of their descendants; those who love God's name shall dwell there.	37 Et semen servorum eius hereditabunt eam; et, qui diligunt nomen eius, habitabunt in ea.
