2 Save me, God, for the waters have reached my neck.	2 Salvami, o Dio:l’acqua mi giunge alla gola.
3 I have sunk into the mire of the deep, where there is no foothold. I have gone down to the watery depths; the flood overwhelms me.	3 Affondo in un abisso di fango,non ho nessun sostegno;sono caduto in acque profondee la corrente mi travolge.
4 I am weary with crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes have failed, looking for my God.	4 Sono sfinito dal gridare,la mia gola è riarsa;i miei occhi si consumanonell’attesa del mio Dio.
5 More numerous than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause. Too many for my strength are my treacherous enemies. Must I now restore what I did not steal?	5 Sono più numerosi dei capelli del mio capoquelli che mi odiano senza ragione.Sono potenti quelli che mi vogliono distruggere,i miei nemici bugiardi:quanto non ho rubato, dovrei forse restituirlo?
6 God, you know my folly; my faults are not hidden from you.	6 Dio, tu conosci la mia stoltezzae i miei errori non ti sono nascosti.
7 Let those who wait for you, LORD of hosts, not be shamed through me. Let those who seek you, God of Israel, not be disgraced through me	7 Chi spera in te, per colpa mia non sia confuso,Signore, Dio degli eserciti;per causa mia non si vergognichi ti cerca, Dio d’Israele.
8 For your sake I bear insult, shame covers my face.	8 Per te io sopporto l’insultoe la vergogna mi copre la faccia;
9 I have become an outcast to my kin, a stranger to my mother's children.	9 sono diventato un estraneo ai miei fratelli,uno straniero per i figli di mia madre.
10 Because zeal for your house consumes me, I am scorned by those who scorn you.	10 Perché mi divora lo zelo per la tua casa,gli insulti di chi ti insulta ricadono su di me.
11 I have wept and fasted, but this led only to scorn.	11 Piangevo su di me nel digiuno,ma sono stato insultato.
12 I clothed myself in sackcloth; I became a byword for them.	12 Ho indossato come vestito un saccoe sono diventato per loro oggetto di scherno.
13 They who sit at the gate gossip about me; drunkards make me the butt of their songs.	13 Sparlavano di me quanti sedevano alla porta,gli ubriachi mi deridevano.
14 But I pray to you, LORD, for the time of your favor. God, in your great kindness answer me with your constant help.	14 Ma io rivolgo a te la mia preghiera,Signore, nel tempo della benevolenza.O Dio, nella tua grande bontà, rispondimi,nella fedeltà della tua salvezza.
15 Rescue me from the mire; do not let me sink. Rescue me from my enemies and from the watery depths.	15 Liberami dal fango, perché io non affondi,che io sia liberato dai miei nemici e dalle acque profonde.
16 Do not let the floodwaters overwhelm me, nor the deep swallow me, nor the mouth of the pit close over me.	16 Non mi travolga la corrente,l’abisso non mi sommerga,la fossa non chiuda su di me la sua bocca.
17 Answer me, LORD, in your generous love; in your great mercy turn to me.	17 Rispondimi, Signore, perché buono è il tuo amore;volgiti a me nella tua grande tenerezza.
18 Do not hide your face from your servant; in my distress hasten to answer me.	18 Non nascondere il volto al tuo servo;sono nell’angoscia: presto, rispondimi!
19 Come and ransom my life; because of my enemies redeem me.	19 Avvicìnati a me, riscattami,liberami a causa dei miei nemici.
20 You know my reproach, my shame, my disgrace; before you stand all my foes.	20 Tu sai quanto sono stato insultato:quanto disonore, quanta vergogna!Sono tutti davanti a te i miei avversari.
21 Insult has broken my heart, and I am weak; I looked for compassion, but there was none, for comforters, but found none.	21 L’insulto ha spezzato il mio cuoree mi sento venir meno.Mi aspettavo compassione, ma invano,consolatori, ma non ne ho trovati.
22 Instead they put gall in my food; for my thirst they gave me vinegar.	22 Mi hanno messo veleno nel ciboe quando avevo sete mi hanno dato aceto.
23 Make their own table a snare for them, a trap for their friends.	23 La loro tavola sia per loro una trappola,un’insidia i loro banchetti.
24 Make their eyes so dim they cannot see; keep their backs ever feeble.	24 Si offuschino i loro occhi e più non vedano:sfibra i loro fianchi per sempre.
25 Pour out your wrath upon them; let the fury of your anger overtake them.	25 Riversa su di loro il tuo sdegno,li raggiunga la tua ira ardente.
26 Make their camp desolate, with none to dwell in their tents.	26 Il loro accampamento sia desolato,senza abitanti la loro tenda;
27 For they pursued the one you struck, added to the pain of the one you wounded.	27 perché inseguono colui che hai percosso,aggiungono dolore a chi tu hai ferito.
28 Add that to their crimes; let them not attain to your reward.	28 Aggiungi per loro colpa su colpae non possano appellarsi alla tua giustizia.
29 Strike them from the book of the living; do not count them among the just!	29 Dal libro dei viventi siano cancellatie non siano iscritti tra i giusti.
30 But I am afflicted and in pain; let your saving help protect me, God,	30 Io sono povero e sofferente:la tua salvezza, Dio, mi ponga al sicuro.
31 That I may praise God's name in song and glorify it with thanksgiving.	31 Loderò il nome di Dio con un canto,lo magnificherò con un ringraziamento,
32 My song will please the LORD more than oxen, more than bullocks with horns and hooves:	32 che per il Signore è meglio di un toro,di un torello con corna e zoccoli.
33 "See, you lowly ones, and be glad; you who seek God, take heart!	33 Vedano i poveri e si rallegrino;voi che cercate Dio, fatevi coraggio,
34 For the LORD hears the poor, does not spurn those in bondage.	34 perché il Signore ascolta i miserie non disprezza i suoi che sono prigionieri.
35 Let the heavens and the earth sing praise, the seas and whatever moves in them!"	35 A lui cantino lode i cieli e la terra,i mari e quanto brulica in essi.
36 God will rescue Zion, rebuild the cities of Judah. God's servants shall dwell in the land and possess it;	36 Perché Dio salverà Sion,ricostruirà le città di Giuda:vi abiteranno e ne riavranno il possesso.
37 7) it shall be the heritage of their descendants; those who love God's name shall dwell there.	37 La stirpe dei suoi servi ne sarà eredee chi ama il suo nome vi porrà dimora.
